Inspector General of Police Stella Libongani Stella Libongani says it is not true that even police officers want President Edgar Lungu voted out in 2016.

Mrs. Libongani said in a statement that the Police Command would like to correct the wrong impression and unfounded statement reported in today’s post newspaper Edition number 6870 under the Headline “Police Officers, like everyone else, want political leadership change in 2016 – Mucheleka.”

She said police officers individually and collectively as a department are not politicians therefore, will not tolerate people creating an impression that the Zambia Police is political.

“As Police Command, we would like to correct the wrong impression and unfounded statement reported in today’s post newspaper edition number 6870 under the Headline “Police Officers, like everyone else, want political leadership change in 2016 – Mucheleka”.

“I would like to state that police officers individually and collectively as a department are not politicians therefore, will not tolerate people creating an impression that the Zambia Police is political,” Ms Libongani said.

Mrs. Libongani said the mandate of the Zambia Police Service is to ensure the provision of utmost security which is critical at times like the one during elections.

“Our main duties among others are to save life and protect property in the interest of all people of the country and the state at large. Statements like the one in the Post Newspaper are an affront to our professional stance and therefore we would like to take this opportunity to remind our Police officers to remain professional and not to be swayed in political biases but to concentrate on fighting crime and lawlessness in the Country,” Mrs. Libongani said.

She said Politicians such as the former Independent Member of Parliament for Lubansenshi Constituency Mr. Patrick Mucheleka and FDD President Ms Edith Nawakwi should not be making statements linking the police to politics.

“Politicians such as Mr Patrick Mucheleka and Ms Nawakwi should not be making statements linking the police to politics.

“Equally, the press should desist from reporting unconfirmed reports which could have potential to influence the security of this country negatively,” she said.

    • Security of country??? which side is Libongani on, protecting fellow Zambians or protecting PF?
Why is she responding to politicians?
And leave Nawakwi alone, she went to check if indeed she was on wanted. What was wrong with that?

  1. If there are at least two cops somewhere in Zambia who want Chagwa out… then it is true to say COPS WANT LUNGU OUT

  2. Stella you have embarrassed the PF (police force) with this ranting.
PF as an institution maybe professional (of course debatable) but as individuals, they are Zambians not immune to the suffering of their compatriots. That’s the context in which Patrick referred to them.
If you are a cadre yourself don’t think all the officers under you are.
All your officers are moonlighting just to make ends meet. That’s those that have not become criminals themselves.

  3. What is indisputable is that Mucheleka and other politicians should not involve the security forces in their stupioid politics and campaigns. They will need this same police if they came to power, but if they mess it up it will be the case of chickens coming home to roost. These politicians never seem to learn, not even Mucheleka or HH or less still Nawakwi

    • Perfect and balanced comment other than bloggers who want to indulge absurd comments to further their political parties of their choice. Always look at the bigger picture!

    • @ Malume Obakeng

And what is the bigger picture in this “absurd comments”? Or, how our “impartial””, “professional” and “independent” IGP has reached her conclusion? By interrogating Police Officers? Or by using the threats to “assure that rank and file” do not exercise theirs CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHT to choose political candidate of their choice?
Forget “bigger picture”, instead concentrate on the facts. Otherwise, your “learned comment”about other bloggers will apply to you to.

  4. Mucheleka is fighting for his life…… his political career has come to an end………like GBM he is following Nawakwi into political wilderness never to find an oasis

  5. Ba LT she is not Mrs Libongani. She uses her own names I know her humble husband, a researcher forester he is not Mr Libongani. So get your facts right. That said I think as a police they don’t have a position, but as individuals they have each their own position which they shouldn’t mix with their profession

    • so manje ise tichite chani? whats wrong with your humble forest researcher being called mr libongani? no one accused libongani of being the bread winner. unless you are saying my humility researcher is not the primary bread winner

    • so manje ise tichite chani? whats wrong with your humble forest researcher being called mr libongani? no one accused libongani of being the bread winner. unless you are saying mr humility researcher is not the primary bread winner

  6. Stella,
Its very true even soldiers are saying the same!
Remember these are our brothers and sisters and we talk to them, things are bad . Lives are bad for all.

  7. Media influencing politics. Unethically working towards a government of his choice. Thank you to Social Media we get to know what you are up to. I am into politics but would rather the people choose who they want. It is open in Zambia now we are divided into political parties and we will choose accordingly but this influence is undermined by the free social media outlets. We get to know the truth through gossip and discussions. Zambia has changed and we lament lack of competition but HEY there is. Lets here what others have to say especially on the other side.

  8. Leave the police alone you *****s,change or no change we get full salaries, allowances from you citizens while waiting for our pensions.Long live libongani
