Opposition People’s Party leader Mike Mulongoti has warned that the decision by the PF Central Committee to adopt President Edgar Lungu as its candidate for 2016 will backfire.
Mr. Mulongoti said in an interview announcing Mr. Lungu’s sole candidature early on will only go to frustrate other presidential hopefuls.
He said the PF should have allowed all those that wanted to contest the top post to do so without any hindrance.
Mr. Mulongoti said those that will be frustrated will resort to decampaiging the party ahead of the 2016 general elections.
He said the fact that the PF has already announced that it will not adopt 70 percent of its current Members of Parliament will only frustrate the majority of party members further.
Mr. Mulongoti said the latest announcement about Mr. Lungu’s sole candidature will only bring about acrimony in the party.
He said handing Mr. Lungu’s ticket with elections almost 12 months away will only diminish his chances of re-elections.
Mr. Mulongoti observed that Mr. Lungu will be easily targeted by his opponents and damage him before the 2016 general elections.
Ba Mulongoti,talk about your party. This is a clear indication that the endorsement of Lungu has shaken the opposition. If it is true that the endorsement of EL as the PF candidate for 2016 will destroy PF,the it should come as good news to Mulongoti and the best thing he can do is to keep quite and watch the destruction of PF. its good that EL has announced his candidature. he won by legs and pangas and he is their candidate. Ba Mulongoti please leave them alone. all i know is that a party that doesnt want to own up when they misjudge and blaming the global economic meltdown whilst when things are improving they dont allude to the postive global economic improvement. now why should i have to vote for this party. i proudly saying i voted for Sata but didnt vote for EL. EL told us he didnt have a vision. Sata had one (whether you agree or not with his vision is another story) with hindsight, i voted for Sata so that i flush out RB not because i believed in Sata’s vision.

Are you aware that its the UPND which needs to go to the convention to elect a new leader? I don’t mean diselecting HH, no no, I mean subjecting him to an internal test.
Finally, what do you know about political strategy, when you cannot even sell yourself as a parliamentary candidate?

its only in Zambia where the opposition try to offer advise to the ruling party on who they should adopt as a presidential candidate. Mr Mulongoti, you formed your party so that one day you become president, here is your chance. Is this the main reason why your party has not announced who will be its presidential candidate? We all know who will be presidential candidates from UPND and FDD. Are the two parties weakened by the fact that every body knows who will be their presidential candidates?
