President Edgar Lungu has been commended for releasing former Labour Minister Austin Liato and other convicts from prison on account of ill health.

Green Party Leader Peter Sinkamba says the move is welcome considering that prisons are highly congested which is causing prisoners to suffer from different diseases.

Mr.Sinkamba has since called on President Lungu to consider pardoning prisoners with circumstantial cases such as those who are serving jail sentences on account of cultivating Marijuana.

Mr. Sinkamba notes that prisons in the country are full of people who have been jailed for merely cultivating marijuana.

He has since appealed to President Lungu to increase the number of prisoners to be released using the presidential prerogative of mercy during the commemoration of Zambia’s 51st independence anniversary.

    • Well said, @Mushota. What is increasingly astounding in Zambia is how seemingly energetic, young leaders are falling for the mediocrity trap! It is appalling to say the least. That excuse is so lame it isn’t even funny. It is as useless as the load shedding excuse…

  1. Peter Sinkamba- You are a thief just like Liato. You should be ashamed of yourself. Crooks like you are not worth to enter politics, you are just there to steal, not to save the people. In 1999 you fraudulently obtained a plot in Helen Kaunda that you used as collateral to get maize from FRA when you knew you had no money. The cheque you deposited at INDO Bank bounced. Shame on you, despite several reminders to both you and your wife you never made any payment.

  2. Sinkamba don’t make such irrational statements! You want money from Liato or what?
