Zambia, Gabon ride blackout to draw

Zambia ended their September match engagements with a draw against Gabon at National Heroes Stadium in Lusaka.

Rainford Kalaba put Zambia ahead in the 22nd minute after the Chipolopolo captain connected with a cross from striker Winston Kalengo.

Gabon goalkeeper Moto Biteski equalised from the penalty spot in the 78.th minute after defender Boyd Mkandawire fouled an opponent.

Meanwhile, two power outages threatened to scuttle the match for five minutes before kickoff and seven minutes inside the opening 20 minutes of the first half before Kalaba pounced to put the home side 1-0 into the break

The draw came just two days after Zambia beat Kenya 2-1 away in Nairobi in a 2017 Africa Cup Group E qualifier and 24 hours earlier, Gabon beat Sudan 4-0 in Libreville in another friendly.

Gabon are the hosts of the 2017 Africa Cup tournament.

    • What is sad??? That the game was played under a koloboyi? Rainford Kalaba is too smart, he pounced on ball before goalkeeper could see properly after the blackout?

  1. That was great humiliation in front of the so called Republic President. Changwa blackout-sheded.

    • Humiliation? What humiliation??? Blackout is just normal for the majority of ordinary Zambians. And the majority of the people who were in the stadium are ORDINARY Zambians. Special Zambians should have stayed KUMAYADI

  2. HH, take an example from abena Edgar, go to the stadium and watch national soccer team. You need to relax azawaizi you will burn out, 2016 is very far.

  3. Chagwa Agwesa ka switch ka malaiti…!

    Fire the MD for ZESCO!!

Don’t you know that that Chagwa could have been bitten by mosquitoes when power was Pfed!

    VIVA HH: 2016

  4. Truly laughable indeed…Power outage with the head of state in the stadium..what a security risk…you would think the ZESCO CEO would be manning the switch room at that one, but this is what happens when no one takes responsibility including the lazy bum himself.

  5. Do you remember the lizard story of Mwanawasa days? Mwanawasa was addressing the SADCC heads of states in Lusaka one time and suddenly power went of for over 10 minutes. REASON: A lizard had strayed into the switch room and switched off power– At least that is what ZESCO told us
