FORMER President Rupiah Banda has dared MMD president Nevers Mumba to expel him from the party, saying he has the right to support President Lungu.
Mr Banda, who was speaking in an interview following a statement by MMD president Nevers Mumba that the former president would be expelled from the party because he supported the PF, wondered why Dr Mumba, who is a clergyman, is failing to show love for people but is instead sulking and being emotional towards him .
“Dr Mumba should not forget that he is a pastor who should preach peace and promote unity in the nation instead of being emotional towards me like he has been,” said Mr Banda.
The former head of State also said he has never quarrelled with Dr Mumba for him to be so emotional towards him.
“I don’t know why he is too upset like that. As a clergyman, he should be the one spearheading peace and unity in the country,” he said.
Mr Banda insisted that Dr Mumba should be able to give love to all people and stop attacking him.
He also said Dr Mumba is a pastor who should lead by example and demonstrate to the nation that he is a man of God.
Dr Mumba yesterday said Mr Banda would be expelled from MMD because of his continued campaigns for the PF.
He cited the recent Solwezi West PF campaign rallies, where Mr Banda shared the PF campaign platform as reason for expelling the former republican president from the MMD.

Why is it that Mr Mumba cannot make a political statement without him being reminded that he trusts in God? Should love be seen to be practiced by the clergy only and not the flock? Banda is actively participating in politics and it is against the the constitution, if he was supporting Nevers Mumb or any other opposition member, we could have already heard Kambwili barking that they will stop his allowances for his involvement in active politics. There is no MMD. Even Sekwila himself does not support MMD. Mumba only wants a good life nothing more. Up to now the few MMD caders remaining are surviving on RB’s money (stolen or not). Some of us vividly remember RB being one of the leaders of the “umodzi kumawa ” Movement in 1967 after the famous UNIP mulungushi rock of authority. The movement coined the slogan ” wako ni wako” slogan this was in response to Mr. Kamanga having been defeated by Mr. Kapwepwe for the position of Vice President of UNIP.
RB’s support for Lungu is purely on tribal “wako ni wako” basis. You don’t ditch the party that enabled to ascend to the highest office in the land to support a party that defeated you in an election and later humiliated you by removing your presidential immunity. I will not involve myself in the two politicians on-going saga. However, I would like to point out something of interest. They both became veeps under MMD, but at time of appointment, were not MMD. That confusion is now playing itself out. History is important to understand issues sometimes.

It is true that the country is used and familiar with the relative/s of former Heads of State holding strong political views on party politics. What matters is to establish whether the law is abrogated or not by open publci support as opposed to actually holding party positions and/or standing for party positions. It is strongly advisable to resort to a court ruling when mutual consultation is failing. This may signal the beginning of a new era in the party politics of the country.
