THE Engineering Institute of Zambia(EIZ) has described President Lungu’s recent speech to Parliament as transformational.

The EIZ is particularly encouraged by the President’s pronouncements on prioritising skills development, science, technology and innovations in the country.

EIZ vice president-policy publications and national development George Sitali said the presidential speech had set the pace for the transforming trades schools in the country.

He said this in an interview in Luaska yesterday “The intention to revive trades and skills institutions across the country is a welcome move and this is the only way this country will develop,” Mr Sitali said.

He observed that most schools which used to teach technical skills started offering business courses which he said needed to change.

Mr Sitali firther observed that workshops were turned into lecture room adding that the institution was happy that the Government wanted to change that as evidenced by the presidential speech.

“It has been sad that most of the trades school changed from their original mandate of offering technical skills and started teaching commercial courses while turning workshops into lecture rooms which I hope will change because the President has set the tone,” he observed.

The institutions would work closely with the Government in its quest to increase access to skills development in the country.

Prioritising teaching of technical skills was the only the country could overcome economic. Challenges.

Addressing Parliament Preident Lungu observed that human capital development through skills training is instrumental for the transformation of any country.

He said this was particularly so now given the global competitiveness, rapid advancement in technology and sustained demands for high productivity and performance.

It is in this regard that the President said his Government has re-prioritised education, skills development as well as science technology and innovation.

To make that a reality ,Government is reviewing policies on education, science and technology as well as technical education.

Mr Sitali disclosed that EIZ plans to establish colleges and a university which would purely teach engineering and technology courses to compliment Government efforts.

  1. EIZ want to open their own universities, whats wrong with all those Mushindo Universities and other unfinished PF dream infrastructures?

    • Thumps up to EIZ as a developing country we need more Universities and colleges in the area of Technology. Also Thumps Up to the hardworking PF Government which has bulit 5 Universities in four years only! further, you didnt have to be a rocket scientist to fugiure out the infrastructure development is key to national development. Thats the true Nostradamus thougths not the fake one with hate and insults on top.

  2. And am so glad the economy is going in the right direction. More praises people for this great presido. We Zambians belly first.

  3. Good grief, Lungu speech was transformational from EIZ’s perspective?? Why go into overdrive in giving praises over a mere speech, guys? What’s going on? If this story is true, when the only transformation is EIZ from what it was.

  4. Presidos speech has laid a developmental agenda from now up to the time Zambia reaches the status of a developed country in 2064.

  5. I would expect these Engineers to have basic knowledge and understanding of the current and near future economic situation of Zambia. Did you hear in the speech, a specific reference to a practical plan to improve science and technology in colleges and universities? Everything was dreams, promissory notes!

  6. Akainde ichilema has not yet given his speech so should bloggers who are negative to development see any sense in a speech from their enermy. Just wait for hh to give his speech in 2050 and you will have a fields day showering all useless praises for the hopeless speech.

  7. THE Engineering Institute of Zambia(EIZ) last week promised to issue a comprehensive statement on their findings regarding a thorough investigation the EIZ instituted on the current Load shedding the country is experiencing.

Shall I take it that the above is that very long awaited statement? What a country?
The majority of the very learned are the most rotten. No Values, no morality and most certainly no shred of Honour and Patriotism. Just looking for ways to further screw the already poor majority.

  8. Bo Sitali, you guys are the worst EIZ we have ever had. The only thing you think of is how to make money. You are no different from those tech schools that you are condemning.
You are a regulatory & compliance institution for engineers then you want to start your own schools, isn’t that creating conflict.

  9. I would like to disagree with those who are insisting that the Presidential speech was just flowery with no plans of implementation. It is the President’s duty to give policy statements and it is the technocrats who are suppose to implement the policy statements into action.

If for instance the President says Technical skills will be priotised, that is what is called a policy statement.
He is not suppose to tell you how it will be done. It is the duty of the technocrats in the respective ministries, depts and different fora to implement the policies

  10. Just empty words and nothing will be done. Do you that there a number of UNZA civil engineers graduating every year but government fails to let them build dams, roads, bridges, sanitation, irrigation systems, but instead hires outsiders to do the job at a very high cost?
What is wrong with using home-grown engineers?
Zambia needs housing, better roads, better hospitals, why not use the local engineers to do these jobs?
Technicial skilled workers are plenty in Zambia, but our greedy government wont give them jobs.
If you have technicial skills go abroad and leave the sinking boat…!
