FORENSIC investigations have been launched to ascertain the circumstances behind a shooting at The Post newspaper newsroom during the week, Home Affairs Minister Davies Mwila has said.

Mr Mwila said at a Press briefing in Lusaka yesterday that Zambians and politicians should stop speculating and spreading falsehoods about the incident at the private newspaper.

He said the findings of the ongoing investigations would be availed to the public at an appropriate time.

The minister said it was unfortunate that some people were pointing fingers at others without getting the facts from the police.

Mr Mwila said the Government would issue a comprehensive statement after the investigations had been concluded.

“Government is going to issue a comprehensive statement over the issue after forensic investigators conclude their investigations,” he said.

Meanwhile, Mr Mwila said the mobile national registration card (NRC) issuance exercise under the second phase was progressing well with 169,595 people having been issued with the national identity cards.

He said Lusaka Province had the highest number of people with a total of 74,306 getting NRCs followed by Eastern Province with 44,775.

Mr Mwila was optimistic that the process would reach its target of registering 500,000 people within the 90-day period.
“I am optimistic that we are going to register 500,000 people before the end of the 90-day period of NRC registration process,” Mr Mwila said.

His ministry is working closely with the Immigration Department to ensure that foreigners do not take part in the process.
He said the department was scrutinising people in order to block any foreigners who would want to take advantage of the situation to access the national document.

“The Immigration Department is seriously scrutinising people, particularly foreigners who might want to try and take advantage of the NRC issuance process,” Mr Mwila said.

  1. Hon. Mwila,
Forensic investigation SHOULD be “launched” (lol) IMMEDIATELY and NOT after three days of “crime scene” contamination.
As to “The Immigration Department is seriously scrutinising people, particularly foreigners who might want to try and take advantage of the NRC issuance process,” what is the criteria? Best offer or promise to vote for PF secures NRC?

    • Can this Home Affairs Minister Davies Mwila stop wasting his time and Government resources investigating ONE gunshot at a newspaper that hurt NOBODY!

If Zambia has any capacity for FORENSIC INVESTIGATION it should be used to find out just how Mahtani and his Finance bank have removed BILLIONS of Dollars from Zambia and stashed them away in Swiss bank accounts.

And get these funds returned to Zambia to stabilise the Kwacha. Just as Nigeria has done with looted oil money.

Then Chikwanda would not have to go and BORROW this exact same money back as kaloba and pay 25% interest on it.

That would be a service to the people of Zambia, not wasting time on one gunshot!

  2. Is the department of Immigration not in the ministry of Home Affairs?
‘His ministry is working closely with the Immigration Department to ensure that foreigners do not take part in the process.’

    • No when Davies Mwila’s job description has only Police department, especially Lusaka and Woodlands police station. NRC sounds strange even to me.

  3. 74,306+44775=119,081, over 20% of the targeted 500,000 in two provinces only. Is this due to urbanization or men in these regions are in polygamous marriages (quote Boko Haram Chama).
About the Post shooting, how does he know its falsehoods being spread when he doesn’t have the police report yet as well.

  4. Suspects:
    1 Fred Mmembe
    2 Chishimba Kambwili
    3 Kaizer Zulu
    4 Goliath Mungonge
5 Edgar Chagwa Lungu but he has an alibi he was in the US at the time of the imagined sniper’s shooting.
6 Maureen Nkandu she is bored with Zambian journalism

    • LMAO but among your suspects I will drop numbers 4,5,. I will investigate the others but only Maureen Nkandu seems to have a smoking gun. zambian journalism is really boring because you have to know the owner of the newspeper to put things in perspective

  5. zambian ministers have no work to do,its the police job to give update to the public,as the are specialist .the minister is completely lost,at partners in the immigration dept and foresic examination.
