All Zambians must respect the day for prayers-Nevers Mumba

MMD president Nevers Mumba says Zambians must not divert their energies to debate on who called for the national day of prayer and fasting because God is greater than President Edgar Lungu.

Commenting on the raging debate on the Day of National Prayer, Dr Mumba said it did not matter who declares such a day but that all Zambians must respect it if they truly believe in God because it has been done in good faith.

Dr Mumba said such decisions should be taken seriously by all who called themselves Christians unless they did not understand the essence of setting a day of prayer and fasting.

“Our position over this issue is that God is sovereign to the one who declares such a day and that we are all his creation and cannot do without God, Zambia needs to look up to God for every situation,” he said.

President Lungu has declared October 18, 2015 as a Day of National Repentance, Prayer and Fasting.

Dr Mumba said in an interview that people should not concentrate on who calls for such a day as it matters less but called on all regardless of political affiliation to participate in asking God for guidance.

Dr Mumba said it was not a secret that Zambia needed a day of national prayer and fasting for guidance, protection and reconciliation as it would be beneficial to all Zambians and not individuals.

In a related development, the Council of Churches in Zambia (CCZ) has said Zambians needs to plead to God to save the country from the challenges it is facing.

CCZ general secretary Suzanne Matale said yesterday that it was not enough for Christians to feel the pain for the nation but that Zambians needed to act by praying as a nation.

Reverend Matale was speaking yesterday at St Peter’s Anglican Church in Lusaka during the Mind transformation Conference.

“Christians should take the lead. It is not enough to feel the pain but we need to act,” she said.

Rev Matale said the Church needed to take the lead in guiding the nation on prayer and morality.

She said that as much as Zambia was facing many troubles, it was important for people to go through these troubles with civility and humility.

Meanwhile, the Forum for Democracy and Development (FDD) youths have called on all Zambians to participate in the National Day of Prayer and fasting on October 18, this year.

FDD Copperbelt youth Chairperson Cephas Musonda said at the weekend that all Zambians must participate in prayer because the country needed healing.

Mr Musonda said President Edgar Lungu’s declaration of the day of prayer and fasting was in good faith and also timely because the country needed to seek God’s help.

He said the country was facing many challenges that needed God’s intervention.

Mr Musonda said it was unfortunate that some opposition politicians had taken the move by President Lungu to call for prayer and fasting as an opportunity to gain politically.

“The Day of prayer and fasting must not be politicised by anyone but must be supported by all Zambians.

“We truly need God in Zambia and proper reconciliation among all leaders,” he said.

  1. Ofcourse Zambians need to pray to God, not just for a day but ceaselessly throughout their lives. What is under debate is hypocrisy! Showing off that you are praying yet your heart is not in it. Examples are abound; sins committed in the name of the Party by followers of those that have called for prayers are not being condemned even after the calling. Action speak louder than prayer words!

    • We need food not prayers you bandit nerves , you are most corrupt and dull person. just ask for a job in Pf for six months and shut up. Good job PF you have made history with the kwacha and the economy and violence

    • Since Lungu is not a Christian but a jihadist Muslim, Zambians have no idea how to pray in mosques and if there any mosques near them. Is the call to the faithful going to come from State House on the day and how many times? What is the direction to Mecca when you are in Chawama?

    • The VISIONLESS PF must stop accusing God for their own Pathetic Failures!

The problem is PF who have NEVER heed to advise. Visionless PF Bandits destroying the political & economical aspects of the country, should just accept their FAILURES’ & disband the leadership as they have proved to be inconsequentially incapable of understanding dynamics in this globalized world.

BANDITS of PF are painstakingly pathological hypocrites & liars who, with their Donchi Kubeba sickness, yapped about the 90 days constitution. After 4 years of confusion, corruption & thuggish violence of intimidating political opponents, PF has ZERO constitution! Pathological Failures=PF!
Visionless PF Bandits, 6 months left for you corrupt elements to be democratically KICKED OFF & OUT! Stop blaming God for your…

    • ……….FAILURES!

Day in & out Bandits of PF is lies! Visionless Lungu has destroyed the economy & kwacha to ever lowest levels in the history of the country. Visionless Lungu & Pathetic Failures (PF) have failed. The earlier they comprehend that they have failed, the quicker to them waking up early from their dreamlessly slumber!

PF BANDITS, its 4 years now, where is the 90 DAYS CONSTITUTION? ZERO! 6 months left Bama Mambala imwe. Nevers Mumba never ceases to amaze the masses, please MMD is a DEAD entity. Mumba you’re also a corrupt & rotten element. Stop blaming God for your Pathetic Failures, will you!

    • Lets hope ba Edith Nawakwi will hear from FDD Copperbelt youths. The fact is, when you reject that which is good, then many of your supporters will condemn and reject you.

    • Solomon prayed for wisdom and was given, used it and prospered. All who will turn up on the 18th should just pray for wisdom if they don’t have.

If you already have wisdom and fail to use it then it’s your problem otherwise God gave us power and authority to change anything even failing leadership.

We’re already a blessed nation by that declaration. whats wrong with praying in your bedrooms secretly but decide to put up a show like the Pharisees?

    • Dear president Mumba, please stop patronizing us. In case you table os full of food and you are happy to be insulted by PF, go fast and pray. The truth is the PF must control their expenditure and things will come back to some normality unlike the case now of increasing number of ministries and registering as frequent flies.

  2. Reconciliation is always practical. So who will be reconciling with who on 18 October and over what?
I just hope results will be seen after prayers till 2016: no political violence between parties, no loadshedding, strong kwacha, better economy for all Zambians.
If we don’t see improvements and change in these areas of prayer intention as called for by Lungu, whom are we going to hold responsible? If political violence continues, economy continues to collapse even after national prayers, whom are we going to blame?

  3. From Tumfweko:”Some Kitwe pastors on Wednesday gathered at Oasis of Love Ministries Church to pray and prophesy that the rapidly depreciating kwacha gains value against major convertible currencies.
And district commissioner Chanda Kabwe says the Church has an obligation to ‘constructively’ rebuke leaders if things are not going well in the nation. About 54 pastors gathered under the auspices of the Kitwe Pastors’ Fellowship and asked God to intervene and make the free-falling local currency gain value.”

  4. In Kitwe 50 pastors already started praying for the kwacha to gain strength very soon. The pastors got the kwacha notes they had, held them up and started praying for them.

    • Tell them to pray harder. In so far theirs effort results are:
      05 October 2015 09:30 12.3794 12.3994
      02 October 2015 15:30 12.3159 12.3359
      02 October 2015 12:30 12.0868 12.1068
      02 October 2015 09:30 11.7774 11.7974
      01 October 2015 15:30 11.7084 11.7284
Better if they start praying for SANITY to overcome 1MBECILITY!!!

    • It is really wrong to give God such tasks. I understand God allows miracles, but these pastors are missing the whole point and are bound to fail tragically.

  5. Right Madam Matale. Zambians should plead to God to remove this visionless and corrupt PF regime from power.

  6. Its Prayer and Responsibility like this quote from Psalms on moral persuassion ;

is not less an object of His regard than the seraph that stands before His throne!

That all His creatures in this world, and all the events of human life, of whatever kind they may be–are under God’s regulation and control–is, of itself, fitted to banish that feeling of uncertainty and hopelessness which the aspect of events might otherwise awaken. And how important to know . . .
    that nothing happens by chance,
that everything is ordained and appointed according to certain divine principles which are fixed and stable,
and that these principles will continue to be developed, until the grand end of God’s government shall have been attained!

    But, however important this…

  7. it could ill suffice to cheer the heart amidst its sorrows, or to inspire that living hope which alone can bear us up under their heavy pressure–were we not further assured, that the government under which we live is conducted by . . .
    a God of infinite intelligence and wisdom;
a being who cannot err–one who knows the end from the beginning; and
is alike incapable of choosing an improper end, or of employing unsuitable means for its attainment.

A persuasion of God’s perfect wisdom in the management of our affairs is the more needful, in proportion as we feel our own helplessness, and are taught, by disappointments and trials–that our affairs are too high and too great to be managed by ourselves. And when assured of this precious truth, we shall the more readily submit to…

  8. I am all for prayer and fasting! It is biblical. However, it is not just a spiritual exercise – its purpose is rooted in self-examination. Fasting reminds us how weak we are and how in need of God we truly are. It is not a way to convince God we are serious or plead with him for those “extra” blessings. If we truly want God to answer us – we must examine our own lives (individually), repent of those sins, come clean before the Lord, and seek the face of Jesus Christ. God is sovereign and can help us – but, He is not going to bless and prosper a nation that is not willing to admit its shortcomings and truly turn back to the Truth.

  9. Imwe, we have been fasting and praying since things started going bad in Mother Zambia! Instead of this campaign of playing on Zambians’ minds, how about stopping thinking about your stomachs and getting to work?!? Believe me, God will then shower the Country with his blessings!!!

  10. Mr Preacher man, you should know your Bible. I think your Bible shows that no leader called for a fast without himself repenting. Has Lungu repented? see dot zambiawatchdog.com/lungus-agents-demanding-money-from-kabwe-business-houses/ I can’t believe that a functioning council and a function Zambian president can allow the corridors of shops to be turned like the way they have been turned in Kabwe. I was against segregation in South Africa but now I see why the Boer introduced it because they knew that most blacks are filthy and can’t manage themselves. Oh, how I miss the KK days. But I detest the day Kafupi allowed the vendors desk at State house. Much more I detest the day Sata legalised street vending. Mr preacher man, do you need God to come and clean up Kabwe? How can God answer…

  11. It is a pity that as a nation we have sunk so low in trying to ascend to power or stay in power. What is really important for the Zambian people and their economy? At the moment we have serious issues affecting the nation, all a president can do is call for prayers while the chief govt spokes person says only Jesus can save the Zambian situation at the moment. People are calling for a dialogue to discuss the crumbling economy and the president is not interested but wants prayer. What really matters to our people, reconciliation with hunger while others are busy looting? Mr Mumba the relationship between people and God is their personal affair and such a national prayer day will not yield anything because we all know that some people will not give up their deceit, guns and pangas.

  12. The Day Is In Commemoration Of Zambia Being Declared As A Christian Nation, That Is How Our President Shud Ve Come Out, The Prayers Shud B Left Open Even For Those Who Wud Pray In Their Closets And This Shud Be Time To Meditate On God’s Word And Not Mr Lungu’s Words

  13. Hey Uncle Nevers ,hold on. Day of prayer is everyday and not 18th October. Lets pray for our nation every day. I remember when Mwanawasa was very sick. The pastors and bishops called for a prayer but the lord did not answer us favourably, I hope this time the Almighty will answer our prayers. And please don’t force people to go for prayers, people should go with a free conscience. Don’t label names to those who will not come because some of you will come for prayers but that does not mean you are more holy than those who wont attend

  14. Another reason why Mumba will never succeed he is a political novice and simply playing into RB and PF’s hands.

  15. ….what are we, as a nation, really expecting after this publicized day..??..are the expectant resultants short or long term..??..what God intervention..??..intervention over what when some-one recently assured the nation that everything is under control…that we should not worry the economy is doing just fine and that he is in total control…he went further to assure us that the govt has put up measures to strengthen the Kwacha….in the past, such prayers were dedicated to avert natural disasters like drought…people used to dedicate a day for prayer and fasting for the RAIN….which people believed was a Godly act…that abundant rain fall at the mercy of God…..
…people have now taken this load shedding as a norm…some-one assuring us that it will end by March…how if we…

    • cont’d….
…how if we experience a serious drought…??..dedicating that day praying and fasting for the rains could have made a bit of sense…
….imagine Davis Chama..Mumbi Phiri…Sunday Chanda…Kambwili where ever they will be on the 18th.. kneeling down praying for reconciliation…that’s the mockery side some-one alluded to….I’m very sure that within a week after the 18th…we shall still witness a provocative ‘mouth diarrhea’ kind of sentiments showered onto the opposition by atleast one or two if not all the characters I have mentioned above…rendering the very prayers irrelevant…and a mockery

    • First results from PF prayers:
      05 October 2015 09:30 12.3794 12.3994
      02 October 2015 15:30 12.3159 12.3359
      02 October 2015 12:30 12.0868 12.1068
      02 October 2015 09:30 11.7774 11.7974
      01 October 2015 15:30 11.7084 11.7284
      Need say no more?

  16. The same Mumba has been praying hard for MMD to bounce back into power. There is no single sign that mmd can bounce back. With so much hunger in the country, I would rather go look for work to enable me buy a bag of millie meal than waste time on the politically engineered prayers.

  17. SELF INFLICTED PAINS! YOU WERE ALL PR-WARNED NOT TO VOTE FOR VISION-LESS LUNGU AND HIS PF TEAM BECAUSE THAT WOULD MEAN DISASTER FOR ZAMBIA, BUT YOU PEOPLE, BECAUSE OF YOUR TRIBALISM DIDN’T LISTEN AND SO WENT AHEAD AND VOTED FOR THIS THIEF AND PLUNDERER CALLED LUNGU, LEAVING AN HONESTY AND DILIGENT HH OUT JUST BECAUSE HE IS TONGA. FOOLISH VUVUZELAS KEPT ON SAYING IFINTU NI LUNGU. IFINTU FYA BUPUBA NI LUNGU ZOONA! GOD GAVE YOU A GOLDEN OPPORTUNITY TO MAKE A GOD-FEARING PERSON AS PRESIDENT OF ZAMBIA LAST JANUARY, BUT YOU CHOSE AN EVIL PERSON CALLED LUNGU TO BECOME OUR HEAD OF STATE. NOW LUNGU HAS DESTROYED OUR COUNTRY IN OUR FULL VIEW, AND IN A FRACTION OF A SECOND, BUT ZAMBIANS ARE JUST WATCHING THIS LUNATIC DESTROY OUR COUNTRY WITHOUT STOPPING HIM. NOW HE IS CALLING FOR PRAYERS AFTER HE…

  18. we all know that prayers are every but there are some days set aside for some special occassions why behave like hypocrites every time you are on the negative side?lets our mindsets may be some people dont understand the word MINDSET.

  19. WE ALL KNOW THE GENESIS OF ALL THESE PROBLEMS WE ARE FACING AS A NATION. NOW LUNGU HAS DESTROYED OUR COUNTRY IN OUR FULL VIEW, AND IN A FRACTION OF A SECOND, BUT ZAMBIANS ARE JUST WATCHING THIS LUNATIC DESTROY…

  20. There is no hypocrisy here. Listen and listen properly-prayers should be everyday. And please don’t label people giving ideas as being negative. Don’t be rigid. Be innovative and open minded. Don’t create an impression that they will be Christmas in Zambia on 19th October. And before this we wanted to hear confessions, because if that is not done 18th October is a wasted day. Confess and the lord will hear your prayers – everything on the 18th?

    • We, the people, are not the sinners which need do pray for the redemption of hypocritical laying corrupt thieves!!!
As to fasting, we have been fasting from 2011 whilst hypocrites been feasting day in, day out.
On the 17th, PF is organizing “Fund Raising Party” and is asking 12.000 kwacha to pay for the “artiste” who is CONVICTED RAPIST.
Let the PF come clean and ask publicly forgiveness not from the GOD but from the PEOPLE which have been enslaved in to debit for generations to come.

  21. DON’T HIDE UNDER THE GUISE OF PRAYER SO THAT YOU ARE NOT BLAMED FOR THE MESS THAT YOU HAVE GOTTEN OUR COUNTRY INTO MR. PRESIDENT, ALL BECAUSE OF YOUR ARROGANCE, PRIDE, CORRUPTION, VISION-LESS, LOOTING,DISHONESTY, NOT FEARING GOD, WORSHIPING THE DEVIL, AND ALL THE OTHER EVIL WHICH YOU KNOW YOU ARE DOING. IF YOU WERE PRESIDENT OF SOUTH AFRICA, BY NOW YOU WERE NOT GOING TO STILL BE IN OFFICE AS PRESIDENT BECAUSE THOSE PEOPLE WOULD NOT HAVE ALLOWED YOU TO STILL REMAIN IN OFFICE ONLY TO DESTROY OUR COUNTRY FURTHER. THOSE PEOPLE WOULD HAVE LONG CHASED YOU OUT OF OFFICE WHETHER YOU LIKE IT OR NOT, BECAUSE YOU HAVE FAILED TO PERFORM! YOU INDEED HAVE NO VALUE TO THE ZAMBIAN PEOPLE! SOME OTHER ZAMBIAN CAN DO A MUCH BETTER JOB THAN YOU PRESIDENT LUNGU. YOU ARE A BIG SHAME TO ALL OF US ZAMBIAN…

    • @ Hobbes

Well said. But then, you are going to be labeled “satanist”. In today Zambia, rationality and honesty are sign of “satanism”. Only 1mbecility rules ok.

  22. God is omnipotent – omnipresent – why are you insisting on corralling people to a PARTICULAR place? Let those who can, show up and those who cannot stay where they are. After all, at the end of the day it is what you are ACTUALLY doing about the problem that really matters. Let’s not throw all responsibility away by pretending it is beyond us. Use the brains the same God gave you to THINK and WORK OUT our problems like the men you willingly decided to be in charge of this country! ALA!!

  23. The chap who need these prayers most are th zambia police force starting from their IG they need to stop harassin the opposition, traffic officers are too corrupt and if anything they need to go back to police college.

  24. The call for prayers is like a pupil sitting for grade 12 exams but does not study and hopes to pass by praying to God. Do you think God can answer such a prayer? The PF should not use prayer and fasting when all they need to do is to take action; reduce govt expenditure, reduce tax so that people can have money to buy things which have been hiked, sign road contracts in kwacha and not dollars to save the kwacha, remove cadres from bus stops, remove cadres employed at zesco, remove cadres appointed to Boards of parastatals, abolish public order act, enact the bill of rights in the new constitution etc. First do the things you can before you talk about prayer. How many progressive countries have called for national prayers and fasting?

  25. People or organizations should never be compelled to gather for prayer. Its a personal matter. Its ridiculous that people are quick to judge those that decide not to attend the prayers as being ‘unholy’ or nonreligious. There is no requirement anywhere in the Zambian laws or rules that anyone aspiring for leadership needs to be of faith – nor should there be this general pretentiousness that Zambians are a ‘God fearing’ lot. A number of pharisees, including Nevers Mumba have suddenly sprung up on market corners to proclaim that they are holier than thou.

  26. Dr Mumba said it did not matter who declares such a day but that all Zambians must respect it if they truly believe in God because it has been done in good faith.
Dr Mumba, I have a problem with this statement. I think it matters who declares it as long as we do not know whether he is a Christian or not. Nebuchadnezzar declared that all people in Babylon should bow and worship the golden image. The young captives refused. My point is unless I know who the king worships I cannot be part of it. I stand with Joshua 14 “Now therefore, fear the Lord, serve Him in sincerity and in truth, and put away the gods which your fathers served on the other side of the River and in Egypt. Serve the Lord! 15 And if it seems evil to you to serve the Lord, choose for yourselves this day whom you will…

  27. choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”
I know Dr Mumba that he is a believer because ha publicly declared his faith and is striving to live a life that honors the Lord, I have not heard any testimony from our President concerning his faith in Christ neither has his life portray one who truly is a Christian. The action of shadreck misheck and Abednego caused Nebuchadnezzar to repent and serve the God of shadreck misheck and Abednego.
We may be excided with the declaration and praise the king, and yet he is on the broad road that lead to destruction.

  28. Comment: The Bible in 2 Chronicles 7:14 says “If My people who are called by My Name humble themselves and pray….. I will hear from heaven….and heal their land”. It does not matter who calls for prayers or how many attend. But those who humble themselves and pray, God will hear from heaven and heal our land. Let us go back to God and he will forgive us.

  29. Prayer is a one to one spiritual connection with oneself and God. praying is not the answer, you Nevers should pray for your pride and greed, you cannot serve God and man at the same time.

  30. NOTHING will happen after 18th. NOTHING!
Zambians are so freaking lazy, god is sick and tired of your whining. You act like senseless little children who poop in their diapers and then cry foul. You lazy integrates, get off your stinky behinds and go to work.

God answered your prayers at independence. You’re ruining for yourselves by refusing to use your heads. He made you in his likeness. Assert your godly intelligence and quit being childish. Prayer does not work because all the things you ask of god are there with you.

  31. I am a prayer worrior but I dont know what we are going to pray about. Is it confession for putting wrong people to rule this nation or what?Pls help me.We were warned about the calibre of current leadership but we didnt listen so what are we going to pray about? What is the cause of all these blues cos the leadership hasnt addressed the nation concerning current problems.Praying without specifications is same as being visionless.

  32. For the time you have made more sense brother. You are terrible at being a politician but flawless at being a man of God. In my opinion, you are better of serving the creator of all living things and the giver of life, yours and mine.

  33. “…. Dr Mumba said it did not matter who declares such a day but that all Zambians must respect it if they truly believe in God because it has been done in good faith…..”
I am a Christian and I am categorically saying the OPPOSITE IS ACTUALLY THE CASE, i.e.:-
1.) – It DOES matter who declares such a day. This is because in reality, the one who declares, or calls for such prayers, becomes the de facto mediator. Now, A warring factor with vested interest in a dispute CANNOT make a neutral and impartial mediator.
2.) – It has precisely NOT been done in good faith:- Clearly it is intended to dupe the vulnerable majority of Zambians who are easily led, into voting in a particular way. 2016 is just around the corner.
I am disappointed by Dr. Mumba’s poor choice of words, but…

  34. Ba Ex Pastor Dr Nevers Mumba, politics and religion can not mix. Its a shame that despite having a Doctorate in Theology, you are falling prey to this national day for prayers. You were better off as a Pastor than being a politician. Reflect on your life and seek God’s forgiveness. Any Pastor or indeed anyone religious should imitate our Lord Jesus (1 John 2:15-17). Jesus never pursued wordly things like wanting to be King of the Jews (Matthew 4:8-10). Why are we politizing Prayer? Is it not voluntary to pray?

  35. Lungu is not competent to call for these prayers. I will NOT respect this call coz Lungu is an unrepentant freak trying to hoodwink us into sympathy for his misdeeds. Lungu must first confess and repent his electoral lies, his role in shooting pipo, corruption in his govt, restitution of stolen money etc. the list is endless. Then God will hear his prayer. Otherwise forget it.

  36. Ba Mumba….you are a fake pastor fake just like the clown who called for the same prayers of reconciliation but can’t reconcile with Dr Scott…please don’t play with God or his wrath will be on all of you demagogues.

  37. DR MUMBA YOU HAVE DONE THE RIGHT HTING. PEOPLE ARE WATCHING YOU. YOU WENT TO HONOR ECL ON HIS INAUGURATION. YOU ARE SOWING GOOD SEED.

WHEN YOUR TIME COMES OTHERS WILL DO FOR YOU WHAT YOU ARE DOING FOR ECL. YOU ARE THE ONLY CREDIBLE, RESPONSIBLE AND REASONABLE LEADER ZAMBIA IS LEFT WITH. HUMBLE YOURSELF MAN OF GOD AND GO TO THE PRAYERS IN GOOD FAITH. WE WUDHAVE BEEN SHOCKED IF YOU HAD SHUNNED THE PRAYERS LIKE HH, NAWAKWI AND OTHERS HAVE DONE. YOU WOULD MAKE A CERY FRAAT PRESIDENT FOR THIS COUNTRY BECUASE OF YOUR WISDOM. ALL OF US WERE HOLDING OUR BREATH TO HEAR WHAT YOU WILL SAY ON THIS MATTER. U HAVE SPOKEN WELL LIKE A LEADER.

ECL MUST NOW BE GENUINE AND STOP STEALING MEMBERS OF THE OPPOSITION. LET HIM STRENGTHEN INSTEAD OF WEAKENING DEMOCRACY. GOD LOOKS AT THE HEART IF…

  38. A day of prayer and fasting. With all due respect this to me, sounds like just another decoy by the boys in power to divert the focus from real problems to non-substantial fantasies. Or as the French would say, these boys are simply trying to cover their ásses.

  39. It is very very clear why Nevers bamukanina even in his home town. Chinsali. Championing and parroting wrong things. Go back to preaching were you deceive people everytime you open your mouth
