Chief Government Spokesperson Chishimba Kambwili has assured miners at Baluba mine in Luanshya that they will be paid their full salaries and their arrears this month end.

Speaking when he addressed hundreds of workers who gathered at Shaft 28 in Mpatamatu area today, Mr Kambwili said CNMC Luanshya Mine is obliged to pay full salaries to the over one thousand workers it has placed on forced leave.

He disclosed that Konkola Copper Mines and Mopani Copper Mines were paying their workers full salaries while on forced leave and he wondered why the Chinese-owned mine was paying the workers 900 kwacha per month.

The Information Minister has told the miners that they will soon receive letters from management over their full salaries but he has warned that if the mine does not oblige, government will impose penalties.

Mr. Kambwili told the miners that the mine misinformed government that it was sending its workers on forced leave because of electricity shortage.

The Minister explained that when power supply was restored to the mine, the company failed to call back the workers saying they were also affected by the falling copper prices.

And officials from various mine unions were booed as Mr Kambwili left them to address the miners. The union leaders later asked the ZNBC Crew to leave the scene. This annoyed miners who immediately dispersed saying they wanted their complaints to their unions representatives captured on camera.

    • What a Baboon for a minister…. first you said the mine has been instructed not to close and yes it did close. You now instructing them to pay full salaries for people on leave we will see who will win.

Surely is this the best Luanshya can produce? A pure moron

    • CK is lying to the miners. The lay offs are a bad reflection on PF, that’s why senior Govt officials have to take such measures over a private sector business. I wonder if any foreign investor would come to Zambia with so much Govt interference. Just accept that things are bad bane.

    • how can a mininster be surprised that miners get as low as k900 (about 75dollar or lower)???,,,,, where was he all the time???

  1. Kambili will cause unrest at this mine. If they are getting full pay the miners might as well get back to work.

The ignorance of Kambili is no longer a joke guys. This calibre of low level thinking drivers away investment, local and foreign.

Is there no other intelligent person to take Kambilis place?

  2. CK at it again. Those threats, baba, won’t work. In the “seven years of plenty” you create reserves that you should use to support the mines in the “seven years of little”.
USA bailed out struggling private companies during the 2008 crunch using reserves to save jobs. You chose to ‘eat’ the reserves amassed by MMD using windfall tax.
Those CNMC don’t give sh!t about you.

  3. I am very surprised! When I started reading, the sounded as if Baluba Mine Owners had written to Govt assuring them that the company will pay the workers full salaries and arrears. But later on i discovered that it was just Kambwili ranting as usual. So what will Kambwili do, because the Mine owners will not for sure pay the workers on forced leave full salaries and arrears.

  4. Am amazed at how this baboon managed to disguise himself and get voted into parliament, let alone become a minister. Are their not enough intelligent People in Luanshaya?

  5. I really wonder some people take this buffoon seriously. So CK is saying the miners will be paid for doing nothing even if the mine is closed. What a joke?

  6. those of u insultng the minister,u ar vry stupid, are u 4 development or what?Upnd is full of *****ic people who owez want to tok sht abt people. We knw u rejoice wen people when people suffer so that u use that as a campaign stratergy bt it wl nt work coz u ar jst fools and u dnt mean wel 4 da people

  7. This ape is just deceiving those miners and playing politics. Mopani have not paid their miners so who has told him about any salary payments at mopani. If kashimba chimbwili is so concerned, why doesn’t he pay the miners from the money he has been stealing from govt? If chimbwili ever owned a mine, would he have paid any miner on forced leave? Atase we chisushi we!

  8. That is what they voted for. When we told them to rethink, what did people say?? Ifintu ni Lungu. Its pay back time. God bless zambians for being foolish. Cheated by Michaele Sata, cheated by Edgar Chagwa Lungu, and now they are dancing to the tune of their action. In physics we learnt that, to every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction.

  9. I read the article, only to be disappointed ‘it is CK again ranting. Takwaba umuntu ushakwata umukoshi, you can’t reason properly.
