BY REV. BISHOP JEVAN KAMANGA
I want to appeal to the people of Zambia to open their eyes and to open them wide. The Day of National Prayer, Fasting, Forgiveness and Reconciliation has come and gone but there are few issues we cannot ignore which have exposed certain individuals and institutions which have tickled our senses and caused us to think twice about such entities. Watch and Pray that Mr. Hakainde Hichilema, the Post Newspaper and the Zambian Watchdog, will not bring division, twisting of the truth, manipulation and sowing seeds of dissention amongst the people of Zambia who have enjoyed peace, love and unity in the past 50 years.
As far as I am concerned, the UPND, under the leadership of Mr. Anderson Kambela Mazoka (MHSRIEP), was a Party to be reckoned with. But the current UPND under Mr. Hakainde Hichilema leaves much to be desired. I know there are many good people within the UPND who mean well for this country. From the top of my head, people like Hon. Gary Nkombo, Hon. Request Muntanga, Hon. Jack Mwiimbu, Hon. Cornelius Mweetwa and Dr. Canicius Banda, who seem genuine but may be intimidated or misguided by their leader, Mr. Hakainde Hichilema.
Unfortunately, their leader, Mr. Hakainde Hichilema, is a dictator who is so self-centered that he wants to all things to be done his way even at the expense of national matters. Mr. Hichilema reacted sharply and negatively to President Edgar Chagwa Lungu’s call to National Prayer, discouraging his followers from attending and supporting such a noble call. Two days later, his Vice President, Dr. Canicius Banda broke his president’s directive and encouraged all UPND members to support the Day of Prayer. Again Mr. Hichilema went on some Radio Stations where he maintained his position and further tried to misinterpret this call to prayer and discouraged his members from supporting the national day of prayer. But you could see that his followers disobeyed him and opted to join this noble call.
What was interesting was that two days before the day of Prayer, the Party Deputy Spokesperson, Hon. Cornelius Mweetwa was on National TV, where he encouraged all UPND members to turn up in numbers and support the noble call to a Day of National Prayer, Fasting, Forgiveness and Reconciliation. But guess what, when Mr. Hichilema realized he had lost the plot, he tried to pull the Honorable Catholic Church and Father Chilinda in his selfish pursuit, something we have all condemned. He reckons, through his Watchdog that he was invited against the National event when in actual fact, Father Chilinda himself and his Choir graced the national event, participating fully in the day of prayer.
It is very clear now that Mr. Hichilema is a divisive, self-centered and malicious leader who is willing to twist every truth just to score a few political points. He must not be allowed to belittle the Democracy we fought for in 1991. I seriously want to appeal to Mr. Hichilema again not to take the church for granted to try and bring contempt on respectable churches like the Catholic Church and all Honorable churches and their leaders who attended the National Day of Prayer. I am sure that he swallowed his tongue when he saw the numbers that turned up for prayers at the show grounds and in all the Districts. He missed it completely and the people of Zambia showed him that they are above petty politics. Now he is busy trying to gain some time by posting scriptures every morning, it’s too late, we have seen through you sir.
As we celebrate independence, I want to appeal to the people of Zambia to ignore, discard and shelve the Post Newspaper and the Zambian Watchdog as they have outlived their purpose in our Democracy. They no longer command a following they had before 2011. The Zambian Watchdog, which is an HH mouth piece, has belittled all the churches who attended the prayer meeting calling them ‘Tutemba’. Honestly, are you telling me that PAOG, Bread of Life, UCZ, the Catholic Church, BIGOCA and the many churches that attended are ‘Tutemba’ churches? Are you telling me that all those many Men of God are ‘Tuntembas’? apa peve mwaitaya baba.
I appeal to the people of Zambia to see through Mr. Hakainde Hichilema and ignore him and never to give him a chance to lead this country as he may destroy it in his unrighteous personal ambitions to plot one. Further, I also appeal to the UPND, as they are a good people, to remove this man (HH) from leading them because he is misrepresenting them in his self-centered pursuit to plot one. To my big brother GBM, I also want to appeal to him to think twice before his political career is completely destroyed by this man who wants to use him for personal gain. GBM must humble himself and make peace with the PF, otherwise, his political career is gone.
Ladies and gentlemen, let us keep the peace, and the unity and the love that we have enjoyed for the past 50 years and not allow Mr. Hakainde Hichilema, the Zambian Watchdog and the Post Newspaper to destroy that which we fought for.
Thank you and God bless
