A 25-YEAR-OLD man of Senanga suspected to be part of a group of United Party for National Development (UPND) cadres who beat up children and smashed windows at Vice-President Inonge Wina’s private home in Nalolo has been charged with malicious damage to property.

On Saturday, suspected UPND cadres, who were in Nalolo in Western Province to accompany their president Hakainde Hichilema, beat up children at Mrs Wina’s home and damaged property in the house.

Western Province commissioner of police Charles Lungu said in an interview yesterday that police have charged and arrested Kwitu Kanyanga for malicious damage to property.

Mr Lungu said Mr Kanyanga was allegedly in the company of other people suspected to be UPND cadres.

He said Mr Kanyanga was arrested for allegedly stoning a shop belonging to a Patriotic Front (PF) official.

By press time, Mr Kanyanga was scheduled to be put on an identification parade.

An identification parade is where the police put a suspect in a line-up of people. They ask a witness to look at the line-up to see if they can pick out the person who committed the offence

“Apparently the suspect and his friends travelled to Senanga after attacking the Vice-President’s family and they were arrested after the group stoned a shop belonging to a PF member. The owner of the shop even identified the suspect during an identification parade in Senanga,” Mr Lungu said.

He appealed to political cadres to be tolerant of divergent views to avoid clashes.

“We are not at war. We should respect and know that we are in a multi-party democracy. People should respect each despite belonging to different political parties,” he said

  1. Laughable! It just has to be a UPND cadre and not some hooligan who with friends could have acted independent of party affiliation but by coincidence and convenience that UPND leadership being in the area it just had to be linked to UPND! Zambians, police and, those politicking grow up!………What a rotten way of rivalry! Anyway destiny is destiny!

    • It was the right permutation for that horrible incidence to occur. We do not need such permutations in Zambia. One thing for sure is that in Zambia you have to let the Presidency pursue you and not vice versa. Talk of KK, FTJ, Mwanawasa, Bwezani, MCS & ECL. Out of the six only MCS fought ruthlessly for him to be President and he only ruled for 3 years. HH should create an environment where the Presidency should find him even if he hides from it. His strategy is not working for him. Some of the occurrences happening right now are de-campaigning for him. I wonder if he has ever been to the drawing table. The 2016 elections will also be elusive for him as I can ascertain from the political atmosphere. Let us stop being in our own cocoons. Let us stop living in falsehood.

    • FuManchu,

Your reasoning baffles me. You seem to share Canisius Banda’s rather weird view that PF members, in UPND regalia, attacked the family of their own party Vice President and Republican Vice President in order to frame the UPND. Can PF members surely go to the extent of injuring their own Vice President’s relatives just to implicate the UPND? I fail to follow your reasoning.

    • THIS REPORT DOES NOT HOLD WATER BECAUSE IT DOES NOT INDICATE THAT MR. KANYANGA WAS THE ONE WHO STORMED VICE PRESIDENT PRIVATE PROPERTY. IT IS POINTING AT THE TWO DIFFERING IN OPINION WHICH LED KANYANGA TO STONE PF MEMBER’S SHOP. POLICE MUST DO THEIR HOME WORK AND DO PROFESSIONAL JOB.

  2. ngatamukwe ifyakulanda kuikalafye. why shouldn’t it be UPND under 5s when they are the ones who committed the offence? This just goes to show ubupuba ubwamba muli ka Upnd from the head of the frog the the a.s.s. s

    • Let politics be politics. don’t bring tribe here. Barotse are a people. Do not generalise you. I guess you are a real lunatic

  3. I too doubt that the story is really true, but in an abnormal place like Zambia, where people are frustrated for whatever reason, it could happen – how can and why should someone in their right mind attack ‘kids’ and braek windows in the name of politics, when they are not rivals with the owner of the house; just because she is a VP in Lusaka? Come on, let’s not politicise each and every little love affair- gone-source between sugar sons and sugar mummies!

  4. Now its very clear that the police are impartial and are directly controlled by State House on who to charge for wrong doing. A lot of UPND supporters were hacked on CB during HH visits to the area but no action was taken against PF cadres where lives were almost lost. If that is not genocide or of some kind where instructions were given out by ECL and veep that HH shouldn’t dare step a foot on CB where is equality being preached by these visionless leaders?.

    • What did you expect from an impotent and robot-like Zambia Police? They are always programmed by the party in power. We saw it during MMD time and we are seeing now under PF. A very unprofessional police.

  5. @lamfras…i pity your stupidity, why are you so obsessed with tribalism?. How i wish nonentities like you were not even born in the first place. You are such an embarassment to your tribes men. If you think us Lozis are happy with everything happening in this ****up country…2016 will tell you exactly what i mean. I rest my case!!!!!

  6. I am lost here….First they say suspected upnd cadre who beat up Wina’s children and smashed windows at her home….Then they say he smashed a windows at some shop in Senanga and was identified by the owner….Which is which?

  7. THIS IS TOO EASY. THE POLICE ONLY MADE AN ARREST AFTER VEEP WAS CHALLENGED. IT DOESN’T TAKE A GENIUS TO SAY THAT A LOT OF THIS IS TOO COINCIDENTAL. POLICE TRYONG TO SAVE VEEPS FACE FROM EMBARRASSMENT. NO UPND MEMBER WOULD DARE ATTACK VEEPS RESIDENCE ESPECIALLY DJRING A TIM WHEN THERE IS ALREADY SO MUCH ATATTENTION IN THE AREA. WHERE WERE THE GUARDS. HOW DID THIE ACCUSED MAKE IT TO SENENGA BEFORE HE WAS FISHED OUT. I MAY BELIEVE THE SENENGA STORY ABOUT THE SHOP ONLY BECAUSE SOMETIMES PEOPLE GET WRAPPED UP IN MOB PSYCHOLOGY AND ACT IRRATIONALLY. WHICH IS SOMETHING WE EQUALLY CONDEMN. I CANT SWALLOW THE ATTACK ON THE VEEPS RESIDENCE PART.

  8. Loadist,

So, you are implying that the Veep made up the story of the home invasion? Why would she do that? Let us wait for the facts to come out, but the truth of the matter is that her private home was attacked by shameless people. Totally uncalled for.

  9. THIS REPORT DOES NOT HOLD WATER BECAUSE IT DOES NOT INDICATE THAT MR.
