Transparency International Zambia (TIZ) has called on the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) to urgently investigate the allegations that have been raised about financial impropriety at Football Association of Zambia (FAZ).

TIZ Executive Director Goodwell Lungu says his organization has noted with concern the allegations made by the former Treasurer for FAZ Kelvin Mutafu on alleged financial impropriety at Football House.

Mr. Lungu says it is important that the investigations are thorough and include the Nike deal and the replica jersey alleged saga, the ticketing system, and match agent commissions among others.

Mr. Lungu has also urged Mutafu and all other stakeholders who have information to cooperate with ACC and all relevant bodies so that a good job is done.

He has also urged Sports Deputy Minister Ronald Chitotela not to preempt the work of the ACC by issuing unnecessary statements that seem to defend FAZ.

He says it is shocking that the Deputy Minister whose Ministry spends colossal sums of public monies on FAZ is quick to dismiss the allegations made, even before an investigation is conducted.

The TIZ Executive Director has challenged the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, as Controlling Officer to institute measures to ensure that all public resources that have been extended to FAZ are properly accounted for.

He says there is also need for the Auditor General’s Office to take keen interest in these allegations.

Mr. Lungu states that it is instructive to note that the allegations have been made by the Treasurer- who is the custodian of finances in FAZ, making these allegations to be attended to only by competent investigation being carried out.

Mr. Lungu has since assured the public that his organization we will closely follow this matter and continue to engage all relevant stakeholders involved in investigating these allegations of impropriety.

  1. ACC is waiting for instructions from State House as usual…its no wonder the Galu is trying to be close to the lazy Edgar.

  2. Nothing will be done, as usual no accountability. ACC will say provide evidence with ministers seeming taking part in the corruption by their silence. As soon as this story broke one would have expected the relevant ministers to comfort in favour of investigations. Every one in positions of responsibility in this PF GRZ can abuse public funds safe in the knowledge there is no accountability in the country and the whistle blowers will be told to provide evidence. As one of the tenants of PF goes, donchi kubeba.

  3. Just keep stealing, now is your only chance. Next year if there is a change in GRZ we might have accountability in GRZ and you will be prosecuted for abusing public funds.

  4. Bwishe first let me ask, do ACC always have to be told what to do? Maybe I am missing something. Perhaps there are Tse Tse flies in their building because it now appears there is an outbreak of sleeping sickness in this organisation. Always being prodded and pushed to act niyabwanji kansi.

  5. ..what has really been a problem kanshi…?..with a readily available key witness…investigation would not be so complicated but why is the authority developing cold feet..??…if the organisation was headed by a well known opposition sympathiser….by now he could have been suspended to pave way for investigation….but just because its headed by the blue eyed son of the land…every one looks the other way…rubbish

    • ACC will say bring hard evidence, not hear say. Nothing will be done incase there is a domino effect and every one in PF is found out and connected to cases of corruption.

  6. I said earlier that ACC are like over fed and toothless bull dogs, whose barking abilities are dependent on cases and pressure from whistle blowers. Look at how swift FBI sorted the chaps out at fifa. While others say insoka boma kumutwe FBI started with the tail because they knew by the time they reached the head, it was already weak to bite them. Who doesn’t know that there is corruption at Faz. Tax payer’s money is stolen with impunity and ACC is ndwiiii!! If I had powers to disband Acc I would do so nomba ba nkalyamo balifula.
