As Zambians in the diaspora, we have been rejoicing at the passing of progressive clauses to be included in the new constitution especially on Dual Citizenship in which we are very pleased that the Movement for Multiparty Democracy under the able leadership of Dr Nevers Sekwila Mumba played a very significant role.

We are however extremely disappointed and displeased at the shocking incident on Friday 18th December 2015 in Lundazi where teargas was used by the Police to disrupt a peaceful indoor meeting of MMD party structures as they were being addressed by Dr Mumba. This is primitive stone age politics that has destroyed our beautiful nation of Zambia. This is totally unacceptable. We were thinking that we have left such things behind after making wonderful progress on the constitution.

I join my fellow Zambians in the diaspora to strongly condemn the action of the police as shown in the video clip on Facebook and YouTube. Dr Mumba is a very well respected man in Zambia by many people and in many countries in Africa and other parts of the world for him to be treated like this. This is very shameful and makes a total mockery of the day of prayer, fasting and reconciliation that was held on 18th October 2015. We call on all Zambians to rise and cry to God for our country.

  1. I am a Facebook friend of the President of the Republic of Zambia.

However, I too condemn the criminal and unprofessional conduct of the Police Command and the officers who attacked the MMD in this way.

One remembers the manner in which the late President MC Sata was teargassed. It was sad. The PF should have come in to improve political freedom for all Zambians.

President Lungu should take note of this wickedness of the Police establishment, deal with the erring officers by locking them up and or dismissing the altogether.

  2. For me, it’s not just about protecting Nevers Mumba or any specific politician based on their standing in society, but the necessary guarantees about the privileges of ALL political parties. Political parties should be free to conduct their work, including public meetings, campaign rallies and membership recruitment work EACH DAY of their existence as opposed to doing so only in the run up to elections. Did we miss this in our new constitution? If so, it calls for an amendment in the near future. This notion of SEASONAL multi-party politics is an insult to democracy.

    • Chairman, why don’t ypu guys take anything seriously? This is a serious matter and yet all you can do is utter explitives – grow up. I am sure a lot of people concur with the message.

    • Ati Dr Mumba is a very respected man in Zambia by many people and many countries in Africa and other parts of the world to be treated like this, my foot! which countries in Africa? which other parts of the world?

  3. @ba Rev, please do not interceed on my behalf if you are expressing your views to support the MMD only. All Zambians are children of God and you, as a man of God, should interceed for all Zambians despite their political associations.

That is why I am one on one with my God, I do not need a middle man. My God and I? We are good, thank you very much!

  4. We also condemned the violence from here. Kanganja should know that after 2016 he will be called in for questioning. Lungu will have his immunity if it will not be removed but he will not have any.

  5. One of the greatest sin among Christians is when the righteous see evil and say nothing or do nothing because of being members of the ruling or opposing party.

  6. Who adore the primitive and barbaric mistreatment of the Zambian citizens and would like to subject them to be prisoners within their own country ? It’ s Kapanga (Silumfukwe) Edgar Chagwa Lungu and his useless Zambia Police Dogs through the misplaced and biased application of the PoA. Fellow Zambians, brothers and sisters in the Lord, the Almighty God is watching and will soon react severely against this government’ s bias. To be in government does not mean one becomes a god and thus, need to be worshiped. Zambia is a democracy with a constitution to which Lungu is also subjected. It does not mean when one ascends to the throne of the presidency, he himself becomes the constitution NO. President Lungu is a great danger to Zambia’ s peace .

  7. Chairman, to respond to your comment, it does not matter if only one person has spoken. He has at least done for all the people that are being affected!! Wise up….

  8. “Zambians in the Diaspora ” how did one individual become Zambians…..???????

    2016 Vote PF (Edgar )

    I thank you

  9. Zambians in the diaspora have no voice.
    Be pragmatic guys.
The President knows the situation on the ground in Zambia better than you!

  10. I DO NOT SUPPORT THE TEARGASSING OF THE OPPOSITION PARTY GATHERING IS ALL LAWS WERE OBSERVED BY THE PARTY ITSELF BEFORE THEY GATHERED AND POLICE SHOULD STOP THIS BEHAVIOUR. BUT, GUYS DON’T JUST BY COINCIDENT MEET IN ONE OF NUMEROUS PUBS (MAYBE THE TWO OR THREE OF YOU) AND WHILE DRUNK YOU JUST TALK ABOUT THE ISSUE AND THE FOLLOWING DAY YOU GO TO PRESS TO ISSUE A STATEMENT SAYING, ”ZAMBIANS IN DIASPORA”. IT WOULD BE IN ORDER TO CALL UPON A MEETING AND FORMERLY, DISCUSS THE ISSUE BEFORE AIRING PERSONAL OPINIONS THAT INCLUDES EVERYONE WHO DOESN’T KNOW ABOUT IT. ALTERNATIVELY, A VOTE ON THE INTERNET WOULD EQUALLY BE IN ORDER DEPENDING ON THE NUMBER THAT VOTES AGAINST THE ‘SPECULATED’ NUMBER OF ZAMBIANS IN DIASPORA.

  11. You will find cadres here insulting you but continue expressing yourself as long as you are a Zambian in Asia, Europe, the Americas or the moon. I always say these cadres all they know is insults and violence so don’t be surprised that some of them here are insulting you instead of addressing the issue of Police brutality from the PF police. Just launch campaigns in the civilized countries where you are to have travel bans on some of these violent Inspector Generals et al then they will know you are serious.

  12. Is this behaviour new at all? This has been happening in zed since…KK days.

The radio DJ with inflated titles is welcome to bring this discussion to the table, and help expose these practices.

Can Mumba not sue the police?

Lungu should put a stop to this primitive police behaviour. Maybe PF is taking revenge on MMD as Sata was put through a lot worse than tear gas.
