George Lwandamina is delighted to have advanced to the 2016 CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN) quarterfinals with a game to spare.

Zambia overcame a confident and rampaging Uganda to stun The Cranes 1-0 thanks to a first half goal from Christopher Katongo.

The victory saw Zambia stay top of Group D on maximum 6 points and maintained their two point advantage over the pack.

Lwandamina described the match as a tough game but that he believed in his charges to muzzle a cavalier Uganda who threw everything they had but could not knockout a technical superior Zambia.

“We are in a good situation. Our plan was to go past the group stage, and the current situation has allowed that. It is good for the players and the team. It was a tough game,” Lwandamina said.

Zambia face second placed Mali on January 27 to decide their top two status in Group D ahead of their January 31 quarterfinal date with a Group C opponent.

The battle to face Zambia from Group C is still tight with Nigeria (4 points), Guinea (2 points), Tunisia (2 points), Niger (1 point) in action on Tuesday to decide their quarterfinal fate.

Nigeria play Guinea while Tunisia have a fairly easy tie against Niger in a 16h00 simultaneous kickoff on Tuesday.

  1. Chicken George needs to win this tournament for Zambians to take him seriously as the man who can qualify Chipolopolo for Russia. Right now the foreign coaches lobby sees him as just another local experiment in failure

    • How to write such a title when Zambian Team is the first one to qualify in Group D. Learn to positive rather than been Negative

    • Ba FTJ chioneka nichi Zungu chamene chamivuta. Do you understand what is being talked about? Also do you understand what you yourself are talking about?

  2. Watch this space Zambia is going NOWHERE and will be undressed and exposed for not investing youth due to greediness and corruption by the Galu regime. Look at our friends in West Africa they have contingent of players in foreign leagues and have improved and greatly developed since 2012 yet we are still stuck with the selfsame players.

  3. Iwe jay jay Chan is for local players only. Don’t say Zambia will go nowhere they have into quarter finals already. You greed person

    • u r right Kamuzu, some of our friends can not even appreciate or promote their own countries but instead what comes out of their mouths is bitternss of the highest level, support and promote your local teams by becoming a member, contribute positively and support your own boys

  4. Now that dual citizenship is law in Zambia what is FAZ doing to entice Charles Musondas children to play for Zambia? Charles Musondas children hold Belgian citizenship. Charles has sons in England, one plays in the under 21 Chelsea team. Charley has received very positive reviews at Chelsea as one of the upcoming kids. Musondas other Children are just as good. So what is FAZ doing to get these kids play for Mother Zambia? Musonda has three boys playing very good soccer.

    • Its wishingful thinking expecting the Galu to go and speak to Ba Charlie Cool…he is too smart for the Galu and knows him better…why would anyone play under such a corrupt regime who can not even afford to pay a local coach or draw up a contract for him!!

  5. Iwe jay jay or whatever you call yourself, keep that bitterness to yourself, remember to keep that crude language to yourself, better people discuss great ideas for the betterment of tomorrow,
