PRESIDENT Lungu says prospects for Zambia’s mining sector are good because of many factors such as a cordial relationship that exists between investors and the government.

President Lungu said in Lusaka yesterday that the future of mining looks brighter than before in the country because the government has put in place most of the benchmarks that constitute a vibrant mining industry.

“I think the future of mining in Zambia is bright. I will be studying the findings of the report [by a team of experts appointed to carry out an audit of mines] and I think we should work out the way forward based on the outcome,” he said.

President Lungu was speaking to journalists at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport in Lusaka shortly before departure for Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, to attend the 26th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of heads of State and Government of the African Union (AU).

He said the relationship between investors has been blossoming in Zambia and hoped that it continues.
On his AU summit assignment, President Lungu said he is impressed with the theme of the summit, which is about human rights with emphasis on women’s rights.

And President Edgar Lungu arrived in Addis Abba, Ethiopia, for a two day 28th African Union (AU) Summit.

President Lungu is accompanied by Minister of Foreign Affairs, Harry Kalaba and his Special Assistant for Press and Public Relations, Amos Chanda.

The Presidential Challenger carrying President Lungu and his entourage touched down at Bole International Airport at 19:00 hours Zambian time.

President Lungu was received on arrival at Bole International Airport by Ethiopian State Minister, Motuma Mekassa.

Meanwhile, Zambia was yesterday voted to seat on the 15 member Peace and Security Council (PSC) during an Ordinary Session of the Executive Council.

All the 52 member countries voted for Zambia.

Zambia has also won a bid to host the Economic Social and Cultural Council (ECOSOCC) which will greatly benefit Zambia as it will boost tourism as well as contribute to job creation for Zambia.

The AU Summit is being held under the theme: 2016 African Year of Human Rights with Particular Focus on the Rights of Women.

Briefing the media after the elections yesterday, Foreign Affairs Minister Harry Kalaba said the Executive Council has demonstrated confidence in the country because it has always advocated peace and harmony as opposed to civil strife.

  1. Am glad that our peace is attracting and winning hearts of other African countries, kudos for winning the two.And to all parties, lets stay peaceful as this our what Zambia is known for.

    • Zambia being peaceful is an illusion as the citizens are terrorised by PF thugs and its gestapo. Zambia is headed the Somalia route, where warlords rule.

    • The last picture my president is pointing to a glass of juice saying this is a mockery to me I don’t drink juice Kikikiki….
Just look carefully his glass is still full while the other is getting to half…. Kikiki tell them Ecl.

    • Zambia has always had prospects for mining, problem is PF policy inconsistence. Edgar and his team do not understand cooperate politics. They think they can extend their bullish and thuggish PF kind of politics to international investors. No bwana Edgar, for that you need special skills

    • The chap hardly understands the Resources Economy – IT ISN’T ABOUT CORDIAL RELATIONSHIPS – it is about DEMAND FOR THE RESOURCE – it is currently minimal for Copper!
TO MAKE THINGS WORSE – we BARELY PRODUCING ANYTHING – WE HAVE NO POWER TO EXTRACT THE MINERAL, MINES ARE CUTTING DOWN PRODUCTION becoz of POWER OUTAGES & LOW PRICES – yet the guy appears focussed on the things that WON’T IMPROVE THE ECONOMY!!

    • Prospect – meaning:
“The possibility or likelihood of some future event occurring”
Everyone knows that Zambia is a resource rich country! What we dont have is good leadership.

Prospects of mines, tourism, agriculture have been there since the 60’s. What has PF done in 5 years other than borrowing $7 Billion that Kambwili calls “investment” to construct roads?

    • Ba Moscow you wait for the rains to stop raining briefly and then quickly go and plant, weed , add composite manure or fertiliser. Don’t you know that rains failing on you “gives” malaria.kikikikiki. what type of a ka mataba farmer are you. Kikikikiki

  2. What human rights are these despots talking about. Mugabe, Sassou Ngueso, Obiang, Gnassimbe, Dos Santos, Museveni, Nkurunziza, Kagame, the new kid Chagwa talking human rights. This is just a dress rehearsal to show who has the best jet & who is stealing the most from his people. Their godfather Xi Jinping is praising them while arresting his perceived enemies in the name of corruption.

    • Old members welcoming the newbie to the DICTATORS CLUB. Comparing notes on how much public money they have each managed to steal.

    • @nostra these are the tyrants tasked with steering the ship called africa. Add to the list Biya the cameroonian, Jammeh the AIDS healer of Guinea, Afewerki the eritrean, Bongo ondimba of Gabon, Bouteflika the infirm of Algeria. If you don’t mind include the tongue chewing Hayatou of CAF as goalkeeper. They will beat any team on any sunday afternoon.

  3. This president has a shallow view on everything. You cannot attribute good mining prospects to “cordial” relations between mining investors and govt. He was supposed to talk about other key issues very relevant to mining investments: e.g. energy, policy, etc! These are what will keep mining investors in Zambia, not just the mere cordial relations Lungu is yapping about!

    • Don’t confuse yourself plus your minions who knows nothing but insults. Ecl said the” FUTURE PROSPECTS FOR MINING ARE BRIGHT ” going by the report of the appointed technical team of experts he is studying. We all know the the issue of energy and other factors will be a thing of the past soon. Mining industry thrives well even in war torn countries e.g. DRC Sierra Leone etc. Be better informed than always making desperate comments to suit your tribal party.

  4. By the time Lungu wakes up, Zambia as we know it will be gone, forever. It’s foolish on the part of successive Zambian governments to think that this issue of Barotseland will just die a natural death especially with the underdevelopment that continues to characterize Barotseland fueling secessionist sentiments in the region. The Northern caucuses venom directed against Tonga and North-Westerners is also literally splitting this country right in the middle. All one needs to check are the voting patterns in Zambia since Sata’s PF ascended into power. He was one hell of a tribally bigoted devil who engendered the most injurious tribal agenda which has festered and eaten away such a big junk of the very national fabric that bound us together as one. As we stand today, we are at sea,…

  5. All he like is “kulimonesha ta” kwa Addis Ababa while their economy he has left behind is tanking. This gutless level of incompetence sucks really.

  6. Anyway, not even the most powerful sangoma from kwaChipata can make Jameson Lungu re-elected. I mean, the man has absolutely zero ability and why he wants to remain in power vexes me deeply. Worse still, he is a serious alcoholic and is also clearly afflicted with some incurable disease that triggers the now legendary feats that saw his knocked flat out on the Independence Stadium canvas. With all these woes, why would someone in their right frame of mind wanna be president of a country?

  7. What is all this????Do you think as head of state you just drink anything placed before you? There is an aspect of protecting the head of state even travels with his cook to avoid POISONING….Please get a life if you don’t want ECL as Head of State please turn out in numbers and vote him out….lets get serious as a people and not continuously insult our Leaders. Its like insulting our parents simply because we disagree with them….Politics in everything!!!!!!!!!!!

    • The man was in Eastern Province for 4 days …tell us when this utterly lazy bum Edgar prepped for this…the man has surrounded himself with dull cadres instead of appointing people who are more intelligent than himself…its folly of the highest order.

  8. am feeling for the upnd cadres and members because they have nothing to tell the pipo about what they will do all they talk about is lungu this lungu that, when pipo in some parts of SP are starving instead ba their president donate food to these pipo so that we will be able to say yes he is ready to look after pipo but busy condeming and insulting lungu, meanwhile the same lungu you are insulting is doing something tangible that everyone is seeing so you can imagine.guys ba upnd unfold your arms reach out to the poor by giving, you will die of cardiac arrest in august 2016 we have on remained with 5 months.

    • Yes pipo are starving because of this corrupt PF GRZ. 21% inflation $10 billion dept, and all you PF theives can say is ” it’s grobo, it’s grobo”.

  9. Terrible tells it as it is.
uPMD will die of envy because they will never get a chance to walk the red carpet or inspect the guard of honour at the AU or anywhere else for that matter. We will not give them the chance , put simply we will not vote them into that high office. You see they started off very well with HH promising to do things differently when he got into power. He promised less cadre mentality, more professionalism, better economy management. But he has since lost it by allowing his party to become more cadre-ish than any existing party. Look at the catalogue of his problems due to their desperation for votes:
    1. The quota factor revealed in 2005.
    2. Rejoicing at job losses in the mines, and insulting the affected people by promising to reinstate all of them if uPMD comes…

  10. 2. Rejoicing at job losses in the mines, and insulting the affected people by promising to reinstate all of them if uPMD comes to power (promising the impossible to enlightened people).
    3. Blaming every problem on Edgar Lungu when he is barely one year old in office.
    4. Cosmetic appointments to the top leadership.
    5. Abrogation of their own party constitution (having a veep who has insisted that he still belongs to another party).
    6. Desire to stir trouble without regard to the volatile nature of their strategy.
    7. Failing to recognise and respect the elected presidency.
    8. Opposing anything and everything as long as it is uttered or done by the ruling party.
    9. Failure to show patriotism to join in any national effort to resolve national emergencies.
    10. Looking down upon anyone…

  11. 10. Looking down upon anyone who does not seem to have as much money as they have (look at the statement by HH that Edgar does not deserve to be president because he has not run a successful business, hasn’t someone told him that we elect leaders not on the basis of wealth but to lead us?).
    11. Load shedding is caused by Edgar Lungu, not the water situation in the dams (after a round of condemnation, we now hear them acknowledge El Nino in terms after they have seen that even their crops and cattle are affected).
    12. Corruption and a desire for positions is as much endemic in uPMD as it is in all other political parties – there is no difference at all and it may be worse if “they were there”.
Now I do not see anything about prudent economic management from the above, all I see is a…

  12. Now I do not see anything about prudent economic management from the above, all I see is a copy cat form of donchi kubeba. So where is the “economic manager” thing when all we see everyday are pure lies, or distorted facts.

In summary, uPMD has failed to live up to expectations by allowing themselves to become as ordinary as anybody else. They are not a viable alternative to the current government no matter its shortcomings. If you look at the recent constitutional amendment parliamentary debates and all the above, you see that the uPMD is an Opposer and not an opposition party like MMD and the others are.

    • in PF what we have seen is
Advisors of the president openly shooting guns in public.
No accoutability in GRZ, no one can account for any monies spent like the $500 million spent on kariba or just recently the ministry of education announced the loss of $6 million meant for educational materials, again no one is accoutable.
You have kambwili a minister openly calling for manegers in public companies to employ relatives only.
A party running GRZ that steals a quarter of all borrowed monies meant for roads by overinflating prices and pocketing the differences.
A party which rules the electorate through brutal caders.
The list of PF rotteness is too long to fit on this publication.

I don’t think Zambians are that stupid to accept the above again.
