Katongo: We have exited CHAN with honour

Share

Zambia captain Christopher Katongo says the team has exited with honour despite their quarterfinal elimination from the 2016 CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN) in Rwanda.

Chipolopolo lost 5-4 on post-match penalties after extra-time to Guinea on Sunday following a scoreless draw.

“I am not disappointed because when the coach assembled the players, we just knew each other for two weeks over the Christmas period,” Katongo said.

Katongo together with fellow 2012 Africa Cup winning star, the midfielder Isaac Chansa, were instrumental in Zambia’s progression to the quarterfinals scoring goal’s in Chipolopolo’s respective 1-0 victories over Zimbabwe and Uganda seeing George Lwandamina’s team advance with a game in hand from group D.

This is after the duo were drafted in at the 11th hour over Christmas following a year out of the Chipolopolo fold following a purge of veteran stars during the reign of Lwandamina’s predecessor Honour Janza.

“They were some players who were not part of the qualification but look at how far we have gone in the tournament,” Katongo added.

  1. This is the problem of most Africans…..excuses and celebrating defeat and mediocrity!!

There is no honour in failure and defeat …..unless a lesson is learnt.

To give a thunderous welcome or even condone failure is to be anachronistic with these verities of today’s setup!

    Abash under performance celebrations!!

  2. danmit! katongo,,,,,, thats a statement sucks, 11 pair of balls full of testosterone in your team failed to deliver one small CHAN cup just in africa,,,, one Catherine Phiri acrossed the ocean and brought the belt home with honour,,,,, not you!!!
there is no losing with honour in life, losing is losing unless you are PF,,

  3. This is nothing like getting out with honour here the people who brought you back are very silly because the person who dropped you from the national team was not stupid you shouldn’t be brought back near the national team again you are too old with very bad manners.

  4. ..this guy has set his bar very low…atleast semi-finalist could have made sense….he should have just responded in Bemba….twalieshya chashupilefye..(we tried our level best..)

  5. Really laughable ….this is what happens when you bring back players from retirement…start afresh but so long as you have the greedy Galu using FAZ as his personal company for himself and wife you will never go anywhere..i told you so!!

  6. Warrant Officer visit 48 Mushili. Their motto says “Fear not death but defeat”. That’s the way a real soldier thinks but you want us to celebrate defeat. There’s no honour in defeat.
If you were asked to name the last four afcon (or for that matter world cup) losing finalists you might not remember them because no one remembers losers.

  7. Ati honour in losing as old as u r missing a penalty.katongo and kalu shud grow y cnt u use strikers lyk luchanga who cn cause headache 2 de defenders.infact u derseved de loose bcoz of *****ic behaviour nosense.

  8. What honour? Did you come back with even a charcoal medal? No. Did you go beyond the quarter-final stage? No. Stop celebrating, and finding solace in, mediocrity.
