Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD) president Dr. Nevers Sekwila Mumba has urged the media to be factual and accurate in relaying information to the public that borders on the proposed working relationship with the ruling Patriotic Front (PF) ahead of the August 11, 2016 general elections.

Addressing reporters yesterday in Kasama, Dr. Mumba said the issue of the running mate would only be discussed when the two parties agree on the alliance and modalities are put in place, contrary to assertions by some sections of the media suggesting that the issue of the running mate was a non-issue in the proposed alliance with the PF. Dr. Mumba maintained that discussions over the possible alliance with the PF have not started, adding that he was yet to meet the Republican President Edgar Chagwa Lungu to chart the way forward.

He said that the MMD’s National Executive Committee (NEC) met last month to look at President Lungu’s call for the working alliance with the MMD and that a mandate was given by NEC to meet the Head of State over the matter.

“It is one of the issues that will be discussed in the modalities for the alliance to work out. For now we cannot say much because we have not yet sat to discuss the issue of the alliance with President Lungu. The assertions in some media organisations are portraying a picture that we are discussing the running mate and I want to categorically say here that at no time did I issue such a statement because what we are discussing is the possibility of an alliance and not the running mate,” Dr. Mumba said.

Meanwhile, the Pastors’ Fellowship in Kasama says it supports the formation of a pact between the Movement for Multi-party Democracy (MMD) and the ruling Patriotic Front (PF) because the leaders of the two political parties had demonstrated that they had regard for the declaration of Zambia as a Christian nation.

Speaking after MMD leader Nevers Mumba met various church leaders at the Victory Ministries Bible Church yesterday, pastor William Mutale said the church in Kasama was behind the pact and will support it if the two leaders agreed to work together in this year’s tripartite election.

Pastor Mutale said Dr. Nevers Mumba was part of the Christian family who had a vision for a Christian nation and that as members of the clergy, the fellowship had resolved to rally behind the pact because it provided hope for the aspirations of church in Zambia. He said the fellowship was convinced that the two parties were formidable and were capable of forming government this year.

“We as Pastors’ Fellowship are agreed to this pact because Dr. Mumba is one of us and what we want to see is that the declaration of Zambia as a Christian nation is upheld. We don’t just want it to be a slogan that people can throw anyhow. We want it to be realised, we want it to be institutionalised,” Pastor Mutale said.

He noted that by upholding the declaration of Zambia as a Christian nation, President Edgar Lungu had identified himself as a God-fearing person who needed the support of another person who believed in his aspirations adding that Dr. Mumba was a perfect choice to work with.

“The second front is that PF is a formidable party and from what President Lungu has done and said, even regarding the amended constitution, it shows that he has the desire to uphold Christian principles.

“He has upheld the declaration of Zambia as a Christina nation; he has declared the day for national prayers and fasting as well as building a tabernacle in which people from all denominations can come together and worship the Lord and that is the first step in taking the country according to its declaration. He needs to work with somebody to propagate his Christian vision for Zambia and the rightful person is Dr. Mumba and we are behind him,” he said.

He said the church was not segregative in the manner it was approaching the issue of alliances in the country but urged the political parties to engage with the church so that it could know their aspirations before making a decision. He advised President Lungu to adopt Dr. Mumba as his running mate in order to form a good working relationship among them.

“We are not saying we are against other political parties. What we want is that the declaration of Zambia as a Christian nation is upheld because that will allow God to govern the affairs of this nation. Other political parties are welcome to approach us but in the meantime, we support the pact between MMD and PF.

“We want to see a pact which exhibits mutual respect whereby one political party does not seem to be having an upper hand over the other if they are going into a pact. Mr. Lungu should adopt Dr. Mumba as his running mate as that will create a good working relationship between the two,” he said.

    • Now is Mumba LEADING A PARTY or is he LEADING a CONGREGATION OF Pastors???
Is it MMD or Victory Ministries?? These Evangelicals have survived on BROWN ENVELOPS hence their support – Why do you think all pastors, unlike their flock, are doing well in Zed second after politicians??? Becoz they promise to preach on behalf of the same thieves we are trying to kick out!! The weeks leading up to 11/8/2016, I ask all Zambians – instead of going to the tuntemba churches, GO ON A RETREAT – ASK THE HEAVENLY FATHER TO GUIDE YOU FROM ALL EVIL INFLUENCES on that day!! Vote for the way “FORWARD”, vote for Zambia & NOT THIEVES!!

    • Christian nation, what christian nation? Isn’t it the same place where one president declared that he would rule by the Ten Commandments?
Where the law is applied on face recognition where corruption is rife where everyone is on in a race to get rich. Where no one cares about the poor but about perpetuating their stay in power.
Isn’t it just a few months ago that we had national prayers yet the conduct of ministers makes you think that we are all pagans

    • Mumba should quit politics. All this dithering should stop. Why on earth the MMD kept him is beyond me. Too many docile people in that party. The man takes advantage of Christianity to keep hold of his position. It is clear that nothing but the vice presidency will do. A party that ushered in democracy as we know it today reduced to a student union debating club with no backbone to rid it of such incompetent fools. It should be clear to anyone that Mumba like much of the political class is selfish and arrogant. They dont listen to reason. The man couldn’t even master more than 50000 votes but yearns for the vice presidency. What numbers does he bring to the table for the PF??. They should learn from some past US politicians who have picked a running mate based on how many states or votes…

    • Has he been allowed to campaign now? I thought all meetings by opposition party leaders have been banned? Mumba is a sell-out, flip flop and unprincipled. Mumba can easily sell our country for a few pieces of silver. look how he runs to South Africa when other leaders celebrate important events at home. He has sold the MMD for the post of Vice-President. I urge all MMD loving members to support a truly principled and nation- building, development oriented and forward looking party UPND. The alliance is destined fora BIIIIIIG FLOP!

    • I thought the earlier story attributed to Nevers was too good to be true. How could he throw away such a golden opportunity to become VP again? Now he is correcting the wrong impression given. Clearly Nevers is getting his bombasa in a twist and he has started negotiating with himself. After all Lungu just texted him once about the possibility of an alliance. Right? How much information can a text message hold such that Nevers is sweating about the possibilities?

    • Hey @ Chils! Your mention of Kadansa, not the Kadansa Kabotolo Lungu, brings memories of one that used to trudge Cairo Road in Lusaka addressing the public on both current affairs and Zambian politics! The man used to draw crowds from all walks of life as people would be drawn to him to pass their lunch breaks! I just imagine what his analysis would have been were he still “crying out” on the streets!

    • This will be a test to all well meaning Zambians to see if the same people we kicked out just five years ago for being enemies of development, thieves can be brought back again just because the symbol on their names on the ballot paper has changed from MMd to PF.
Surely Zambians we deserve better. Remember a leopard can never change its spots.

  1. Whoever shall enter into an alliance with Dr.Mumba should be very careful, whether UPND or PF! This man is cunning! Besides, what guarantee is there that he will come with voters with him ? The man is only interested in himself.

  2. I smell a big FAT rat, why is Nevers Mumba being the only one always misquoted? First it was the media , then Mutati and now the media again? it could be that he a trickster or just does not know how to communicate his message in a simple and clear way? He should learn from Sata easy to communicate the message ” More Money in your Pocket” very simple but effective

  3. MMD has been completely destroyed by two selfish leaders in the likes of Nevers Mumba and RB….. This must be a timely warning to these other parties that like giving higher party positions to imports…. If you look at these two chaps RB and Nevers they have never been genuine members of MMD

    • I would’nt agree more..Voetsek! indeed. This Mumba is a shameless con artist who less than 2 months ago was teargassed like a rat by the PF police and ended up meeting his ‘disciples’ in the bush.Today the PF are darlings because he has smelled money and like Judas,he is ready to sell his soul to the devil.Brethren, countrymen and women,do not be swayed by Mumba and his flybynight pastors. They are hypocrites and bigots of the worst sort who are driven by nothing but the lust for money..VOETSEK!!

  4. NGAMULEISA MUKATUSANGA KWASILA……NOT KUPITILILA BA UPND….ANYHOW ITS ECL @ PLOT 1 TILL 2021 …..IFINTU NI……PWISHENI…….#PF, MMD ALLIANCE FOR DEVELOPMENT

  5. If you’re going to vote for somebody because you think they have a great faith in God, you’d better be sure that God has faith in them.
    Lewis Black

  6. Trusting Nevers…is likened to trusting your so called “born again” wife who tells you every week that she is going for overnight prayers at church with her Pastor.

  7. There are a number of segments in MMD, the one which does not recognise Mumba, and comprising people like Siliya,Kaingu, Kapembwa, etc. There’s the segment which supports UPND, comprising Mutati, Chituwo, Shikapwasha, Lungwangwa, etc. And then again there’s a very small segment supporting Mumba, comprising Mbulakulima, Nachikanda, etc. Now then, how can Mumba begin campaigning for running – mate, using surrogate church groups, rather than party organs? MMD is fragmented as things stand, so until Mumba puts his party in order, he cannot and does not qualify for consideration for the position of running – mate.

    • @CHITUTUMA. YOU ARE VERY CORRECT!!!! BECAUSE NEVERS HAS SHOWN NO SPINE AND RESOLVE AS A LEADER HE IS FORCED TO LEAN TO ONE OR THE OTHER FACTIONS. A TRUE LEADER WOULD CALL FOR A CONVENTION ASPIRE TO WIN AT THAT CONVENTION THEN DECLARE THAT IF YOU ARE STILL A MEMBER OF THE PARTY THEN YOU ARE WITH HIM. IF YOU SUPPORT ANYONE ELSE THEN YOU ARE AGAINST THE PARTY AND YOU EITHER FALL IN LINE OR LEAVE. AS IT IS NEVERS HAS NO MANDATE AND HE WALKS WITH BOWMAN LUSAMBO WHO HAS ALREADY SOLD HIS SOUL TO PF. THE ONLY WAY MMD WILL SURVIVE IS IF MUMBA AGREES TO HOLD A CONVENTION OR THE NEC CAN FORCE ONE BY DECLAREING A VOTE OF NO CONFIDENCE.

    • @Chitutuma: your comment is correct but Lungu does not know that. It’s like two blind men leading each other. Lungu is so desperate and clutching at straws like a drowning man. He will probably negotiate some alliance with Muliokela, too!

  8. Iyi yakosa…..either you offer Mumba running mate or else bapente tithe chewing pastors won’t support you ba PF Lungu.

That’s Nevers Mumba for.you….Judas Iscariot…and so for reason of ubujenjeshi, LPM fired him as VP.

I recall Mumba in 2001 going for presidential nominations with his mother and claiming that God has told him that he was going to be President. When Mumba didn’t make it to
President, I lost faith in this conman who is not a man of God!

  9. Whatever the situation MMD and PF should work togather. There is extremly nithing better that can come from HH and his UPND. If HH is what he says he would have gone for convention and not allowed some pipo to be near him. Nawakwi think about being lungu’s running mate

  10. Every day presents an opportunity to gaze into the workings of this greedy and slippery Judas Iscariot’s brain. No care for anyone or country but himself. One SMS has galvanized him so much he is already seeing himself as the vice-president and won’t let anybody or anything stand in his way. This is not about MMD, it’s about him alone and that post with all its perks. He is single-handedly handling this alliance thing. The possibility it might not materialize because people have decided to vote for the opposition is not even given a second thought. Looks like there will be lots of tears when opposition forms govt and shatters this hypocrites dreams.

    • Where did you get your facts, if you have any?

Judge Nevers on the basis of his track record where he has served. Even as President of a party that lost power it’s a wonder we even have an MMD to talk about today. Look at what happened to UNIP. Their inner fighting drove that party to oblivion! Nevers and the close team around him have fought to keep MMD relevant. That’s why we’re still speaking about MMD today! Let them decide how they want to go to the next election!

    • Kkkk…..a gold digger.

He who the gods would destroy, they first make mad.

In total madness, Mumba will go round the country with PF money asking all to support his VP bid. Watch!!

  11. The MMD is morally bankrupt honestly how can you go to bed with someone who snatched your wife.Equally the PF has really gone Mad how can you you marry a dead corpse(MMD) This corpse was buried for life and reasons are best known by all Zambians. The pro poor PF wants the Anti poor MMD. Once they are married they will get a very unruly child who will never know what to do in the new house. The end has come for these two parties because they have sold there principles.

  12. What a premise for supporting Mr Mumba!. The gullibility of some people is amazing. It is of course your right to support anyone, but please delink religion from politics. History shows that the politicians parasitize religion for their own survival. Just ask the Catholics they have been around longer and they have see it all before.

  13. BA MUMBA, BUT YOU CAN’T AGAIN BE NATIONAL VICE PRESIDENT. THERE’S NOTHING YOU DID TO MAKE YOU COME BACK AGAIN AS VICE PRESIDENT. I AM PRETTY SURE ALL YOU WANT IS THE ZAMBIAN PEOPLE TO CONTINUE FEEDING YOU WITH YOUR FAMILY. YOU HAVE NEVER WORKED FOR YOURSELF. EVEN WHEN YOU WERE A CHURCH HEADMAN PEOPLE FED AND CLOTHED YOU AND YOUR FAMILY, BESIDES HOUSING YOU. NOW, THAT YOU CAN SEE THE END OF YOUR ROAD IN MMD YOU WANT TO BRANCH OFF TO PF THE MONKEY-WAY KNOWING THEY ARE WINNING. EVEN AS AN AMBASSADOR TO CANADA, YOU JUST STARTED RAISING YOUR PERSONAL MONEY USING THE EMBASSY, IN THE NAME OF CULTURAL WHATEVER. I THINK IF LUNGU IS NOT VERY CAREFUL ABOUT THE WAY HE HANDLES YOU- THIS TIME THIS WILL BE THE END OF PF BECAUSE OLD MEMBER WON’T STOMACH IT. IF I WERE LUNGU, I WOULDN’T EVEN ENTERTAIN…

    • Ba Peter,

Your post is very misleading. As High Commissioner,Nevers was a well respected diplomat, infact chairperson of the diplomats association within a short time of being here. High Commission staff were motivated and Zambia’s reputation was rising. As for his ministry work, again Nevers was a pioneer in many respects of a highly impactful ministry.Contrary to misleading and misconceived assertions, he left Victory Ministries in the hands of very capable men and women.Again as an Evangelist Zambia could boast of a preacher of international reputation.

  14. Not so long ago Nervers hosted European Diplomats at his residence in Lusaka who paid courtesy call on him to sympathise with the brutality he had endured at the hands of PF. Today he is pursuing collaboration with the same party that inflicted so much pain on him and his followers. Are those Diplomats going to take him serious? I don’t fink so! Are we supposed to take him serious? I don’t fink so!

  15. Mr. Nervous says, ”The issue of the running mate would only be discussed when the two parties agree on the alliance and modalities are put in place.” He does not seem to realise the he will be negotiating from a very weak position.
The other pastor says, “He has upheld the declaration of Zambia as a Christina nation; he has declared the day for national prayers and fasting as well as building a tabernacle….” indicating that it is ECL’s constitution!
Give us a break you false teachers and wolves in sheep’s clothing…!

  16. The problem with Zambian. Politics is that everybody rallies behind the encumbant rather than the opposition for check and balances on how their vote has worked for them.We have no one to blame but ourselves we are so naive and inpet that we allow these politicians to ride our backs for their personal gain. The one party syndrome is intrenched in us.What is important is not the party u are affiliated too but ur country regardless of whatever party u belong.

  17. My only worry with Dr Nevers Mumba, he still insists that when I meet President Lungu to discuss the pact, why don’t you go as a team. As MMD team to go discuss, with due respect why are you insisting on going to meet the President alone
