The opposition Rainbow Party has dismissed assertions that it is in an alliance with UPND ahead of this year’s elections.

This comes in the wake of a front page picture in The Post newspaper showing Rainbow Party General Secretary Wynter Kabimba with his UPND counterpart Hakainde Hichilema shaking hands after a meeting for opposition political parties convened by veteran politician Vernon Mwaanga.

Rainbow Party National Coordinator for Mobilization Robert Chikwelete has explained that the two political parties cannot be in an electoral alliance because they have different ideologies.

Mr. Chikwelete says the party is not in any alliance with any political party and Rainbow Party is not going to form any alliance with anyone during the 2016 general election.

He has explained that the photo referred to was taken during an opposition political party meeting organised by Dr. Mwaanga at which Kabimba read out the communiqué’.

He says the Party will field candidates in all the 150 constituencies.

Mr. Chikwelete says the Party will use its electoral alertness and pro-activity its members applied while in PF in 2011.

  1. This is the opposition we know in Zambia. One thing to day and the other the next day. FYI this is really increasing the punishment vote around. Oh I forgot to explain punishment vote. Voting for Lungu because of Opposition parties failure to heed the people’s concern to form alliances.

  2. Parties can only form alliances if they have the same ideologies, of course if you do not agree on how you are going to govern, it will be difficult for you to work together, like pulling in different directions.

  3. No one wants to partner with the tribal upnd party why? And it’s minions are busy shouting victory. What a joke of a party. All these parties will decampaign upnd more than Pf giving Pf outright advantage to win.

  4. With or no alliance pf has disintegrated with the rising up of Miles Sampa whose party is punching holes in the pf streams of confidence while on the other side Rainbow also is digging into pf, Nevers Mumba and his MMd aliance with pf is another pf killer since many Zambians still believe Sata’s message that RB and MMD were corrupt and ruined the nation; further still Pf will suffer internal splits and defections soon after parliament dissolves. therefore HH has all the chances to garner over 50+1 vote in first round. Nawakwi is a pest on both pf and UPND but she is 10 years to winning an election.

  5. Was it not RB and MMD which made Pf win last year’s elections. Rb and Ecl campaigned on the same podium and people liked it. Who are you to lie that people wont accept the alliance. This time it’s kolopa reloaded

  6. Those joining UPND are doing so becoz they want to eat or they feel thats the best way to punish Lungu and PF. For UPND theu just feel a Tonga should rule. lets wait and see

  7. Half baked news. Who said the UPND was in alliance with the Rainbow Party? was the one who said that a fit and proper source… properly allowed to speak on behalf of the party? Did you consult the UPND for an official position? The news item seem to be providing an answer to a silent question. You are confusing your readers. Kindly differentiate hearsay from news. Online news in Zambia is just too amateurish. Grow up guys.

  8. HH/UPND is in strong alliance with the zambian people. Every party is worried about the incoming president HH. Many Zambians will vote for him the coming election.

  9. @ sombo UPND don’t need alliance with any part already we are in alliance with all Zambian who has suffered want a change.

  10. Why join a Upnd…Tonga for Tonga Party.. u must be crazy. Only a dinosour like GBM can do that .. big body with a small brain. Only a Tonga can be president…
