Striker Christopher Katongo says he will work hard after making the 33-member Zambia team for this months’ 2017 Africa Cup Group E qualifiers.
Katongo earned his place in the Group E doubleheader qualifier against Congo-Brazzaville after inspiring Zambia to the quarterfinals of the 2016 CHAN tournament held in Rwanda in January where he scored a goal in 1-0 win over Uganda.
Katongo said he wants to impress the George Lwandamina bench in a bid to earn a place in the final squad.
“I have been called up to the Chipolopolo team for games against Congo. Now I need to work hard to impress and make the team,” Katongo wrote on his Face Book page on Thursday.
The Green Buffaloes forward is returning to the team after a year out of the team.
“Thanks to everyone for all the support,” he added.
Katongo is a patriot. I’m personally proud of him. Thanks bwana officer..
Katongo will make a good politician, he sells himself every day. Once he goes for FAZ president no one will catch him.

we have lost those boys to belgium due to galu’s hatred and jealous of their father.
it was charles’ wish and many coaches out there, to have all his three sons feature in our national teams at all levels, but alas, it was not to be because of this galu at faz.
belgian papers even wrote that “zambia’s loss is belgium’s gain.”

Ba imusho, that Musonda jr boy cannot fit in the Zambian squad under the current Kalu FAZ administration, the boy is a world class player. He is in the class of Messi/Neymar. The current FAZ administration can just waste his time let him just play for Belgium.
Katongo is a hard worker but he is just as good for the team as dinosaurs are good for believing that the world has been around for millions of years. Just as good as Alexander Chikwanda in the PF. But for people like me who do not believe in Santa Clause and read in black and white, there are a lot of players that are doing very well both locally and internationally that the FAZ of Galu does not use for reasons best known to themselves. If we start team selection purely on merit Zambia would go far even as far as the world cup final.

Katongo had his moments and I am pround of him but I feel his time has gone. Coming back to the main Team should not be a thing for hime to look foward to. Maybe couching or any big job especially that people has seen his hard work even the footballers themselves would be inspired . Before talafuta ukuba hero that he is he should retire nakula footballers are known for reducing there years so frannkly speaking he should be in his 40’s. Its time to look after his family and his career in terms of his job in the army they gave him room to play football so its high time he compansate. Am sure he made a living from the monies he’s gained from football. Mr. Katongo I have nothing against you but this is the right time to retire. Football is a seasonal career!
Katongo, plez mwalipwa. just go to Angola and enjoy your money. The other problem is when you score the first goal, no one else can score again apart from you youself. This is reality. We have proved by watching all your games you have played and score. Most of the time the scoreline is 1-0. Why not 2-0 or 3-0? Umuti mwapanda tawawama.
The Problem is the Coach. He can’t see beyond his Elbows. What he sees is only Katongo. That`s all. There are young players who eager to run and harass the defenders but always left out. Why? Katongo is very Old. Like someone has put it, let him concentrate on his family and may be look for the Team to sponsor or Coach. The bones have become so hard, so any injury that will be the end. I Am not jealous but giving out the best advise to the one I love.
The police should detain katongo to stop this nonsense the chap is too old and finished
