Youth and Sports Minister Vincent Mwale says the biggest commodity that the country has to the outside is its peace which should be guarded jealously especially by young people.

He said Zambia is renowned for being the most peaceful nation in the region but that it has existed because people have worked towards maintaining it.

He said the country’s foreign investment is dependant on the continued existence of peace in the country as no investor would want to invest in a war torn country.

He said the peace that the country has enjoyed for the past 51 years can be destroyed within two days if youths continued to be used as tools of violence.

He said youths have the power to stop political violence by deciding that they don’t want to be used as stone throws in the battles of leaders who themselves do not exchange blows when they meet.

He said the youths should realise that it is the heads which are smashed together while their leaders share cups of coffee.

Mr Mwale also bemoaned the low youth participation in the democratic dispensation of the country which he said was due to unfair political structures which favour the older generation.

He however called on the youths to apply for adoption in their various political parties and take up active roles in decision making positions so as to contribute positively to national development adding that the future of country lies in the hands of a vibrant youth.

He further commended the Young African Leaders Initiative YALI for the active role in engaging the youths on leadership matters through various media platforms.

He said the meetings arranged across the country have been a success in encouraging youths to participate in leadership as well as denounce political violence.

  1. Mr Mwale which party do you belong to at the moment. Surely the peace we enjoy is the greatest assert we have in Zambia. However, note that as long as you politicians enjoy alone this peace will not be there for long. Politicians you ought to reduce on the privileges you have given yourselves like;
    1. increasing salaries and allowances above everyone’s else
2.paying yourselves graduating in time ahead of the the hard working civil servants
3.paying yourselves salaries on time every month at the expense of the other workers in the country
    and many other privileges.
Yes, we need peace but assist by being fair in the way resources are being shared in this country, especially in the current format of politics, learn something from the UNIPists.

    • Poverty ba Mwale, ka poverty cabe. The youth have no alternatives but to surrender themselves to those with cake crumbs/

  2. What has this peace done for us. This is a commodity politicians have abused for the last 35 years, while most of our people (except for a glimmer of hope between 2006-2010) have starved. Our education system has failed. Our health has failed.
If anything our greatest asset (or commodity) should be our human capital. Age is on our side. This is a resource we should all strive to develop.
Politicians use the term peace when they want to call us stupid.

  3. You ka Vincent mwale, can you update us on corruption allegations at FAZ, or are you under the payroll of Kalusha??

  4. If you can build an economy untainted by the blood of the buying and selling of weapons, the blessings will endure for many years. Countries that sell the tools of oppression and violence are rotten to the core.
