Energy Minister Dora Siliya says she is shocked that former Veep Guy Scott still wants to be relevant to the country’s politics despite his advanced age.
Ms Siliya, commenting on the alliance by UPND and DF said she thought there was a silent understanding that after the January presidential election the country had closed a chapter, in an apparent reference to old politicians.
Ms Siliya further said that it was sad that her UPND President Hakainde Hichilema feels that he can only go forward with what she described as relics in reference to old politicians.

I have been following some events on social media this Easter Monday. Amazed that instead of spending time with family and reflecting on Easter message my dear friend Miles has decided to use the day for another alliance..whatever that means.
However, what shocks me even more is how 70 something Scott still wants to be relevant in our politics. I have nothing against him except for his hate streak and condescending manner.
However, how can we the young Zambians (90% of Zambians are 45 years and below) accept that our path will continue to be carved by the likes of Scott. It seemed to me that after the January 2015 elections there was a silent understanding that we had closed a chapter on old leadership which is why many of us said No even to RB re-contesting. Does Scott think he is an exception.
I must say am even more sad for my dear colleague HH as he feels he can only go forward with relics. True UPND stalwarts must be hurting. Gary my friend has no idea when he will really rise to VP or even President of UPND. Dr Canicius Banda seems even more non committal as he must be confused about what is next in the UPND.
What about Wina, how old is she?
I know LT likes to keep things moving but can we avoid irrelevant items or perhaps put them under the comedy section?
Dora, what are trying to tell us about Chikwanda, Inonge Wina, and RB? they are older than Scott….are you chasing them from PF?

I struggle to find anything commendable that PF has done since ECL was inaugurated president of Zambia. So I turn to comments from PF cadres for some insight as to why the ECL led PF government should be considered for another term in office. The following are my findings.
PF supporters seem to fall in one of three categories:
1. PF BENEFICIARIES: This lot enjoys the spoils through job appointments or questionable business deals with government. Among these are family members and close friends to governing officials. These sing their praise to PF loudest.

I am very disappointed with Dora. Does she realize that she is guilty of age discrimination (ageism) which is just as repugnant as gender, racial or ethnic discrimination? In developed countries, our friends never make any noises about the ages of their politicians. They are more concerned with the politicians’ ideologies and capabilities. In the current US Presidential primaries taking place now, you won’t hear American youth complaining about none of the candidates being a youth.

This is broken down as follows (with age in brackets): Trump (69), Cruz (45), Rubio (44), Bush (62), Carson (64), Christie (53), Kasich (63), Santorum (57), Huckabee (60), Fiorina ( 61). For the Democratic aspirants the average age is 71 years, with the following breakdown: Sanders (74) and Clinton (68). If this was Zambia, all these youth NGOs would be up in arms yapping about this day and night! Interestingly, the most fanatical and loyal supporters of 74 year old Sanders are younger generation Americans below age 35!
