Forty One tractors and accessories worth over 27 million kwacha have been distributed to women under the government financed Women Empowerment programme.

Minister of Gender, Nkandu Luo says about 20 more tractors worth over 13 million kwacha will soon be distributed under the Women Empowerment programme.

Professor Luo disclosed this when she handed over three tractors in Mansa and Mwense Districts.

She said the move is in line with the government’s resolve to help women involved in agriculture through mechanizing their farming.

Professor Luo noted that women in Zambia have for many years been actively involved in agriculture hence the need to support them.

And Bahati Member of Parliament Harry Kalaba in whose constituency the tractors were distributed said the equipment will help women increase their yields.

Meanwhile, Chief Kalaba of the Ushi people in Mansa District praised government for distributing tractors to women in rural areas.

  1. How about men who do not have tractors, what have you given them. This song of women makes nonsense. Both women and men are adults of majority age who are equal at law and no more segregation and special treatment for either of them. Only children who have not reached majority age are vulnerable and need special treatment and treatment. Why not give them soft loans individually instead dumping them with those tractors which they may not even account for them as a group?

  2. So how do these people pay back this…who monitors these projects…this is not empowerment; let corporative organsations handle such matters not ministries.
Have you trained them and allocated land and irrigation?

    • BA JAY JAY, MULEBELENGA, NOKUTAMBA NO KUMFWA IFYA PA TV AFYA KUNUMA. FOR ALL THE GOVERNMENT IS HELPING TO SOURCE FUNDS, MATERIAL AND EQUIPMENT, THE GOVERNMENT ACTS AS COLLATERAL. I THINK THAT’S WHAT I HEARD SOME MINISTER OR SOMETHING SAY ON ONE CERTAIN INTERVIEW OVER THE ISSUE OF BORROWING MONEY BY PEOPLE WITH NO COLLATERAL. TROUBLE IS ZAMBIANS JUST READ ONE PIECE OF INFORMATION AND START POUNDING ON THEIR COMPUTER KEYBOARD WITHOUT CONNECTING THE CURRENT ISSUE TO SOME OTHER RELATED PAST AND CURRENT ISSUES. RESEARCH BEFORE YOU EXPOSE YOUR IGNORANCE.

  3. “Forty one tractors and accessories ave been distributed to women… Minister of Gender, Nkandu Luo says about 20 more tractors will soon be distributed.”

Oh good. For a while, I thought maybe all the tractors had been given out too soon before the elections. Better save some in reserve and decide where they go later. Right, boss?

  4. At least show us a video of this selfsame empowerment project of these women driving these tractors and ploughing…where did the get the tractors from? China?

  5. GOVERNMENT APA NGA TAICENJELE YALAPANGA ABAUME IRRELEVANT AND REDUNDANT. PLEASE, DON’T BE TOO OBSESSED WITH WOMEN EMPOWERMENT TO THE POINT OF MAKING MEN IRRELEVANT AND REDUNDANT. IT WILL BE TOO DANGEROUS TO PUSH MEN INTO ARMED ROBBERY. BECAUSE, THIS IS WHAT WOULD HAPPEN IF MEN START FEELING THAT THEY ARE IRRELEVANT. I AM NOT AGAINST THE EMPOWERMENT OF WOMEN AND GIRL CHILD. BUT MIND YOU THE LOUDEST SONG IN ZAMBIA NOW IS GIRL-CHILD AND WOMEN EMPOWERMENT AND BOYS AND MEN LISTENING ARE LISTENING AND SEEING THIS MARGINALISATION TAKING PLACE. SING ALL THE SONGS LOUDLY WITHOUT MAKING OTHERS FEEL OR SEEM TO BE LEFT OUT. I REPEAT, IT’S VERY GOOD TO EMPOWER FEMALES, BUT NOT ON THE EXPENSE OF MALES.

  6. Jay Jay that is the problem with these guys, they can’t create policies but throw money and gifts at problems, hoping they fix themselves. You can tell there is no proper plan here and those tractors will end up being dumped somewhere or sold off.
