Government says President Lungu’s foreign trips have raised Zambia’s international profile and attracted great opportunities of foreign investment.
Foreign Affairs Minister Harry Kalaba said this during a media breakfast meeting in Lusaka today.
ZANIS reports that Mr. Kalaba said the country’s image abroad has improved owing to President Lungu’s good foreign policies and interactions.
The Foreign Affairs Minister cited the donation of an assortment of office equipment worth more than US$600,000 from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia as a product of good bilateral relations.
He added that President Lungu should be applauded for facilitating the hosting of the Economic, Social and Cultural Council (ECOSOCC) secretariat of the African Union in Zambia.
The Minister stated that through ECOSOCC, Zambia will benefit greatly through the frequency of meetings the country will host and will subsequently promote tourism in the country.
And Mr Kalaba disclosed that the foreign service bill will soon be tabled in parliament.
He said that once approved the bill will sanction the country’s missions abroad to enter into a mortgage for acquisition of property to reduce on rentals which are a drain on national coffers.

Kaunda raised the international profiule of Zambia, and so did Chiluba during the era in which Africa was going multi-party with Zambia as the beacon of African democracy although we all know Chiluba’s tendencies. Sata lowered our international profile, and Edgar Lungu is yes, restoring our national profile internationally from where Sata dropped it, but he is merely restoring, not setting new trends, no disrespect to His Excellency. Not to say he is doing a bad job, but just saying that wording should be put in context.
Please Mr Kalaba, let’s be serious! How exactly has he raised Zambia’s profile? By sanctioning political violence? By associating with Jerabos? By destroying Zambia’s economy? By hiring a plane to the USA to party with Mampi & JK? By avoiding to address the economic realities in Zambia? By wasting resources making 23 foreign trips in one year? Please be serious for once!!!!

Zambians put Lungu into state house, don’t demonise an innocent person just because your small god lost to ecl. Accept that ecl is continuing as President of Zambia til 2020. Very laughable indeed with no tangible evidence to point to except for two things. A donation is raising your profile of being a beggar and definitely not something to be proud of. You don’t get respect for receiving donations, in fact it is embarrassing and lowers your profile, now when the Saudis see you all they can think of is beggars. Lungu’s travels have been with no proper agenda which made them very ineffective except for small deals here and there. He has been more of a tourist until recent when people began to complain that’s when he tried to get small deals here and there.

We cant be receive kudos on Zambia’s image without knowing we had bad image out there.

Meanwhile corruption is looming and embassies are closing, do we just tend to look at issues from one perspective or we just want to pretend that Zambia’s international profile image is improving under Lungu. Well how can it not when he is not ridiculing other heads of state as was the case with MCS!
Our presido is intelligent not only at national level but at international level. Good example the late mcs saw it fit to give him all ministerial posts plus actn presido. Another 5 years under his leadership will witness massive development as a nation
He also raised the country’s profile by the willingness we have seen from potential investors from Italy & France to invest in various sectors in Zambia.
