CHOMA Central Member of Parliament Cornelius Mweetwa has expressed doubt at re-contesting his parliamentary seat during the August 11, 2016 General Elections.

Speaking during the Choma Municipal Council (MCM) council meeting held in the chambers yesterday Mr Mweetwa said the Choma parliamentary seat was heavily being contested.

Mr Mweetwa said he had also applied for re-adoption and the decision for him recontest the seat would be dependent on the people.

“This could be the last time I am speaking in this meeting, my desire to come back should come from the people but I have also applied, as I hope to come back to the council,” he said.

He commended the council management for the good works that they have exhibited as they had not experienced any illegal land allocations.

Choma Mayor Proffester Mwaanga said the council has made tremendous strides in the facilitation of the construction of the modern bus station.

Mr Mwaanga said a contractor had already been identified to build the station expected to cost about K 580 million.

“We have already identified a contractor and it is only a matter of a short time before we can begin the construction,” he said.

He said the council has recorded a number of achievements during his tenure which saw the rehabilitation of the council offices and also the construction of refuse bays.

“The construction of refuse bays in the central business district has drastically changed the face of the town in terms of waste management,” he said.

  1. I think Cornelius Mweetwa is one of the few MPs with leadership characteristics, one who follows the ABCs & knows his job. On having a heart for the people, only the people of Choma can answer that.

    • No mention of where the money for the construction of the modern bus station is coming from. Ba Up N Down party bena they just had to ignore that our working government has taken development to Choma, but instead chose to praise themselves and their arrogant, insulting MP………….pwa ha ha ha ha. At least we now know where his frustrations in parliament are coming from…….he might not get adopted!

  2. What leadership qualities are you talking about. Fighting in parliament. This man is a disgrace and just as well he has realised that. He has failed his constituency and should therefore not re contest

  3. The duty of Government is to develop the country regardless of who voted for who. District development also is a work of government to provide funds, that’s why all councils send their proposed budgets to the central government for approval. its naive of the highest order to sing praise of your government when they are doing the very things we voted them for e.g. construction of clinics, schools, roads, markets and bus stations. its sad mediocrate continue to rule in cadres minds.

  4. Developmental projects are funded by tax payers are not by political parties. Every corner of this country deserves to be developed regardless of political representation in parliament. Government’s role therefore is to simply prioritise and use tax payers’ money wisely.

  5. No information in this report. MP for Choma Central, which party? Editor please read these useless stories before they go press. I am hearing about this Meetwa chap for the first time, how the heck do i care if he stands or not? But it sure would matter if he was in the party I support. So LT, give some background info to go with the story for your readers to appreciate your reporting. It is called Reporting 101.

  6. I must praise him for his candor. He is willing to accept defeat and bow out gracefully. Some MPs will fight and force their way to nomination when the people don’t want them. So for this act alone, Mr Mweetwa, you have demonstrated some political maturity ad I thank you for it.

  7. I feel sad for Mwetwa. imagine if he didn’t choose to be regional, the whole country would have fought for him. He has now joined Hon Mucheleka. Its sad to lose pipo like Mwetwa. Incoming MPs lets have Zambia first. Not your party or your pocket

  8. This Zambian culture of ours of putting lounge leather sofas in front rows at churches and ceremonies should cease, surely who has come to lounge in the front row when they are on duty. Whats wrong with sitting on a chair…do you ever see Obama being given a sofa at a ceremony all the chairs are the same.

  9. It is not the working govt but the working M.P. if it was the works of the government why is it not happening everywhere particularly solwezi and mufumbwe in North Western?

  10. let him go and rest he has failed us here in choma he has done nothin that he will show alongside his mayor as far as im concerned the issue of a bus stop is a white elephant coz there is no place which is reserved for that. choma is a place with no bus station buses stops along the only road and taxis opposite posing a danger to the travelling public. The chap is good in making loud noise with P A mounted on his cruiser loaded with carders

    • Again this is a classic case of forgetting the real core role of an MP one we have learnt from civics all along the 3 arms of govt …. thats why our MPs have the luxury of passing a law and just a few days later start questioning it theselves and we entertain them becoz in our myopic thinking MPs bring developments so what the heck are the entire structures in govt there for ??? It’s a fraud we have perpetuated as citizens and we have all fallen prey to it in neolethic style …. Small wonder we are trapped in a loop which only benefits the few and rest of us believe we are being done favors by those that wield illusionary powers.

  11. He is a very vocal MP. His only problem is threatening people in Mbabala Constituency to vote for his do nothing friend MP there. Shame. People in Southern Province and elsewhere in Zambia should vote for vibrant and people oriented MPs. Kaunda stayed for 27 because we let him. We will not let non performing MPs go for 3 terms doing nothing for development. Democracy is about letting the will of the people prevail. No amount of threats will force people to vote for a failure.
