President Edgar Lungu has assured people in the copperbelt province that government will turn around the economic challenges the region is experiencing.

President Lungu said that he will ensure that more investment is attracted in the province and the country at large to spur economic growth.

ZANIS reports that President Lungu said this when he commissioned construction works for freedom park mall in kitwe today which will be developed by National Pension Scheme Authority (NAPSA).

The Head of State said government is aware of the current economic challenges people in copperbelt province are facing, stressing that this is as a result of the downturn in the mining sector which has caused job losses for most people in recent months.

He said government will continue to focus on economic policies, strategies and programmes that will attract local and foreign direct investments in all parts of the country in order to foster job creation in all sectors of the economy.

Meanwhile President Edgar Lungu has commended the National Pension Scheme Authority (NAPSA) for not only resolving to participate in infrastructure development but other developmental projects that promote job creation like the freedom park mall.

He said NAPSA’S resolve is in line with government’s national development agenda aimed at job creation and improvement of the welfare of the citizens.

President Lungu reiterated government’s commitment in supporting all developmental projects which are aimed at generating household income, reducing poverty levels and employment creation.

And Napsa Managing Director Yollad Kachinda disclosed that the freedom park mall will create more than 1, 000 permanent jobs once it is completed in the next 18 months.

Mr Kachinda said NAPSA will give priority to the local suppliers of goods and services in order to create job opportunities to the people of the copperbelt.

He added that the mall will host several facilities like banks, office complex, car parks, and shopping malls among others.

The Kitwe shopping mall has been lying idol for some time and NAPSA purchased the mall and has since contracted Avic Construction Company which has since moved on site.

President Lungu is in the copperbelt to commission developmental projects in the province.

  1. Edgar should know differences in Zambian demography, and give proper promises.
People on copper-belt can not be compared to people of Barotseland.

    • The article is focusing on the copperbelt job creation, why are you pulling the regional card? Are you implying that human basic needs of Wp and CB are determined by demogrphical differences?I believe human needs are basically the same, people just need a good decent meal at the end of the day.Your analysis is flawed because it is politically influenced as dictacted by your secret vote.

    • Your excellency, you have unflinching support of countless rational patriots in and overseas. I’m one of the thousands other Zambians blessed and empowered that now pledge to deliver to the country tangible investments and step forward in offering expert advisory support unconditionally to the country. UNIP gave us free education that led to the opportunities flooding us today, its payback to the country to help our many helpless people. Politics of hatred panse Zambia first.

    • Economics or trial and error. Ignorance happens to be the god we worship and the devil we abhor.

    • am very alarmed mwebantu! who is trying to crucify my drinking mate lungu??,,, GBM said going for the throat ,, that was okay because we use those words when drinking,, we go for the throat when drinking,,,, but crucifying has scared alarmed, who is trying to put lungu on the cross,,,lungu mwebuntu is big fun to drink with please take it from me,,,, you can fire him as a president but please don’t crucify him,,, am preparing home coming party

    • In your dreams, Lungu. PF has no impact on job creation. In fact they are better at employment destruction.

    • “The Head of State said government is aware of the current economic challenges people in copperbelt province are facing.” Government is aware, what kind of meaningless non-sense is this? Is it ever possible that government wouldn’t be aware of such important national issues?
Can we get people aren’t constantly on the bottle to run the country please?

    • @1 YOU GUYS EVERYTHING KUKONDEMA, SURE. KAILI NOMBA BALIMIPELA DUAL CITIZENSHIP MWILABELAMA. MULEYA KU ZAMBIA MWAYACITAKO IFILUNGEMA UKUCILA BA PF NA ECL. ABANTU NABATOTELA IMWE JUST CONDEMNING. NAFUTI, NAFUTI NI ECL EOTULEFWAYA.

  2. Unless man. You saw the economy crumbling, what measures did take to prevent it from tumbling to this level?

  3. Don’t worry Edgar. Mulenga Sata will end up like Patrick Mwanawasa.

The boy is useless. What did he expect to be in PF. The next president when surely he has no political stamina but just using his name.

Already the people in UPND High Circles are saying today that – let him come and help us win votes. If we win don’t give him anything. He is a Bemba Thief.

  4. So you mean cheap promises are for the people of barotseland,My dear Stop mentioning people, races tribes, provinces and so on and on they are the most educated people after all. Don’t be involving other people in those stories which you discuss with your CHICHAKOLWA WAUNFWA.

  11. Does this include creating 500 000 jobs on the copperbelt only. And is he going to turn the economies of the entire region single:handedly?

  12. What will Lungu do to turn around the economy? What policies will steer the Zambian economy to grow and prosper. U need to implement measures that will diversify and grow the Zambian economy. The President should have told the Nation what exactly will he do to stimulate growth and devt in Zambia?

    • The clueless clown has no idea how to turn the economy around. These are just empty promises.

He has had time to make a plan, but has he told us about one? No, all he knows is using taxpayer’s money for campaigning and drinking Jamesoni.

      CNP for sure

  13. Abena Zambia balibelela ukuchula! Fyenu ifyo na Lungu! I’m happy I will never have to suffer again, economically.

  14. Big lie Bwana Lungu.I guess you’ll go to the financial capitals of New York/London and single handedly turn up the fortunes of sinking commodity prices like Copper,Gold,Oil and silver, right?

  15. Does Lungu understand that jobs come with a strong economy that fosters a good business environment. Without a strong and vibrant economy you cannot create sustainable jobs. Building a mall that will giving Zambians clerk type of roles is been unfair to the many hard working Zambians. But this comes with strong political will that stamps out corruption and up holds the rule of law. The truth is Lungu has failed. I think the time to accept is now. The country is in mess and you don’t have the competence to turn anything around. Let alone promise Zambians jobs that will never be created

  16. Let me say again. Lungu is incompetent and does not understand anything. For the sake of mother Zambia please retire yourself in national interest. I rest my case

  17. Haha, Lungu to turn around a one commodity economy? Mr Lungu serious nations like Rwanda and Kenya are moving up the ease of doing business index while you just think of a ka-regional turn around.

  18. The Lazy Bum is aware of the state of the economy hence he has time to officiate at the launch of a mere shopping mall…what an empty tin he is ..when has this bum got time to sit in the office!!

  19. Lungu has no basic understanding of how a modern economy functions. He should have employed economic experts rather than surrounding himself with crooks.Lungu’s leadership skills are appalling. He simply does not inspire.

  20. Eddy – we are interested in what people are going to offer not those songs. The songs will not put food in our stomachs you understand.

  21. Lungu’s ignorance and that of his minions has further been exposed by their renaming the Freedom Park mall in Kitwe ati EDGAR CHAGWA LUNGU MALL? Bushe ni ku kazimule? I believe Levy Business Park mall in Lusaka is named after Mwanawasa one of the hard working Presidents Zambia has ever had and makes a lot of sense considering its location. If ba Edgar was just a bit enlightened he was probably going to suggest Edgar’s Business Mall or anything that suits parklands residential area not fi chagwa and for what? These are the same people who wanted to name the Heroes stadium ati Gabon Disaster no doubt they are a real disaster.

  22. THESE GUYS THINK DEMOLISHING A PARK AND BUILDING A MALL IS DEVELOPMENT!! VERY STUPID INDEED….THEY SHOULD HAVE CLEANED UP THE PARK AND FOUND ANOTHER PLACE TO BUILD THE MALL.
    STUPID BASTARDS
