Ten-man Zesco United poor run hit major turbulence on Wednesday when they lost their first league game of the 2016 FAZ Super Division season.
The defending champions where stunned 1-0 away by a plucky Forest Rangers to see their hosts stay unbeaten against Zesco in three successive Ndola derbies.
Forest have now picked up seven out of possible nine points against George Lwandamina’s side.
Zesco’s first setback in the game in the 40th minute when defender David Owino was sent-off for punching Forest striker Ronald Chibwe.
It got from bad to worse in the 42nd minute when Forest took the lead through striker Felix Nyaende.
Nyaende capitalised on some poor goalkeeping judgement by Jacob banda who casually left his line but the striker made sure he did not waste that great opportunity to fire in a parabolic shot that left the Zesco keeper chasing after the ball.
Zesco then had Mischeck Chaila and Ben Banh to thank in the 62th and 75th minutes respectively when the made timely tackles in the area to deny Nyaende an opportunity of a hattrick.
Meanwhile, Power Dynamos stayed unbeaten for a second successive game under interim coach Anderson Phiri who ended 3rd placed Zanaco’s 100 percent start to the season.
Power and Zanaco finished 0-0 at Sunset Stadium in Lusaka.
It was the same result across town at Independence Stadium where 4th placed Green Buffaloes were held by bottom of the table Mufulira Blackpool.
