Former Finance Minister Situmbeko Musokotwane has observed the need for government to calm the business community after the August 11th general elections.

Dr. Musokotwane is advising whoever will become republican President in August to come out strongly and make an assurance that stability will be sustained in government policy.

In an interview Dr. Musokotwane who served as Cabinet Minister under the MMD government has suggested that the business community both in Zambia and abroad should be assured that the policy inconsistencies that have been witnessed in the last five years will not happen again.

Dr. Musokotwane states that this will also entail that whenever government announces any policy change, going forward, it should be a decision that has been thought through carefully.

He says this is with the view of not giving an impression that government is experimenting.

Dr. Musokotwane says he also expect whoever will become the republican president after this year’s general elections to focus on stabilizing the mining sector.

He says this is besides making the Country’s Agriculture sector competitive to the extent of producing for exports.

  1. This man if it wasn’t for the name , he will be a nobody.

Educated yes, but even the limited time he served as Minister, there is legacy he falls back on to say he was a success.

He has a lot of people hoodwinked in nothing his words and his PhD carries substance.

I see through him ad can attest that ngandu Migande was a better Finance Minister than this man ever was

    Believe that

    Thanks

    • In my and your life time, you will NEVER see a better Finance Minister than Magande!! Magande was pragmatic, realistic, intelligent and forthright!! The man never scared of taking on Investors and they still loved him because he was transparent and guided by policies of stability! Think of Wind fall tax which one coward discarded after Mwanawasa died.

    • @Vodika Rungu: if he stole the bikes, why wasn’t he imprisoned by Sata? Think just for a microsecond.

    • Economic flip-flopping is like a drug to PF. They will never stop because they have no brains to assess the impact of any policy changes they make.

  2. I saw Chishimba Kambwili, Mumbi, Chama and Lubinda yesterday during the press conference laughing mockingly very happy when their president announced the unacceptable madness that ministers will remain in office and I was left to think, these morons have no morals!

  3. No longer self-assured Mr. Musokotwane? I thought you are UPND and are forming the next Government. Now you a saying “Who ever forms government after August 11…”? You should be more assertive than that, Bathu. I would be very worried if I was your supporter

  4. And this is the guy who was in the forefront of getting rid of National Planning at Ministry of Finance. He undid everything Magande and Dr Mulungushi laboured for at Mof and the first thing he did when he became Minister was to get rid of planning as a Division and refused to engage Planners who were recruited by PSMD. let me not say much. Hypocrite

  5. When Magande was Minister of Finance,Musokotwane was Economic Advisor to the President. No minister can run the economy country alone . It’s the policies that we are all getting wrong I suppose

  6. Magande. Gosh! The guy can’t even speak proper English. He can’t articulate issues well. Musokotwane is an authority in Economics.

    • I remember clearly when Peter Magande said, the then newly constructed road from the airport to town center showed economic development. I had to scoop my jaw from the floor.

    • Iwe @Sauzande, I am trying to watch a game of football (Granada v Barca) in tranquility! Your jaw dropping (and scooping) antics are not doing me any good, my ribs are now aching. Ha ha ha…

  7. Well said Situmbeko. Investors need transparency, accountability, honest and consistency in policies. These are traits that are not founded in the outgoing President. The intergrity of the incoming President matters most.

  8. Him joining UPND is clear indication that he has accepted to play a small role in governance. He will never be given a cabinet position by HH.

  9. Policy means a decision as to what shall be done and how, when and where. It is the relationships of government unit to its environment. We should come up with what we want to achieve as a nation from the sectors before any policy is issued. Where should Zambia be through the next 5 years. That is what we want to hear from the politicians instead of specialising on how to win an election that will not erect any progress and development.

  10. …should be assured that the policy inconsistencies that have been witnessed in the last five years will not happen again…
…whenever government announces any policy change, going forward, it should be a decision that has been thought through carefully…
make up your mind… your statement is neither here nor there; biting and blowing! in between the lines all I see is ‘edgar give me a job’ or ‘HH im prepared to work for you!’ lukewarm will be spewed out revelation 3:16

  11. Magande who allowed Membe and Nchito borrow frm DBZ under dubious circumstances and then wanted the tax payer to be liable for the debt!

  12. Expecting a rat to do the work of the frog when it has been a Rat all along.lungu will continue to do the same if he is reelected.lets try others.

  13. Good counsel and we did not experiment as a nation we just had a tragedy of Loosing Sata and now we may have a female its possible

  14. Is that so Dr Musokotwane? The only way to ensure that policies remain consistent is by retaining PF in power. Edgar’s government has already shown that it has stabilized the policies, especially mining, after a period of learning and making mistakes, sometimes just to please a noisy opposition which does not take responsibility once things go wrong. Remember UPND stance on windfall tax? Well, they backtracked silently once the economy nose dived.
What Hon Situmbeko is saying is that if UPNd is voted into power they will reverse a lot of policies, in fact ALL of the policies which PF has implemented and which investors have accepted, esp mining taxes. Why do I say so? Well, UPNd have condemned and criticized just about anything that PF has done. If they came to power they will obviously…

  15. Contd….What Hon Situmbeko is saying is that if UPNd is voted into power they will reverse a lot of policies, in fact ALL of the policies which PF has implemented and which investors are now comfortable with. Why do I say so? Well, UPNd have condemned and criticized just about anything that PF has done. If they came to power they will obviously reverse everything, otherwise why do they want to come to power if Edgar is already doing what they want to do? Opportunists they call them ?

  16. MAGANDE & DR MUSOKOTWANE ARE THE ONLY ONE I CAN BE PROUD WITH IN FINANCE MINITRY SINCE 64 not the Chikwandas fisuchi fe fyekafyeka fe, thats why katu sekete KALE MONEKELA.

  17. Magande, Whatever His Other Chi Name Is, Was Such A Donkey Stubborn hard hearted MD at zanaco in the early 90s that very few if any bank staff would remember him for even an iota of anything good.

  18. YFORWARD FYE BANE IFWE, UPND, EVEN IF YOUR CABINET WILL REMAIN IN OFFICE, ZAMBIANS ARE NOT STUPID, THEY WILLVOTE UPND, WE HAVE ALREADY EXPERIMENT CHAGWA, WORST, FORWARD BANE, NEW BROOM AND BLOOD

  19. Good counsel. No well meaning normal functioning adult with his/her Country at heart would oppose this advice.

  20. He is campaigning to be Finance Minister again but his track record is dismal to say the list he is at the bottom end of the pile
