Electoral Expert MacDonald Chipenzi has launched a no referendum alongside the general elections campaigns.
Mr. Chipenzi, who has partnered with former Mpongwe Member of Parliament Gabriel Namulambe and UPND Member Dante Saunders, is of the view that people know little about the Bill of Rights and thus the need to first educate them on the contents.
Briefing journalists in Lusaka today, Mr. Chipenzi says Zambia should not experiment over this important aspect of the constitution.
Mr. Chipenzi says there has been an absence of publicity and civic education amongst stakeholders saying people still do not know what is in the Bill of Rights and it will be suicidal to subject it to referendum to be held alongside the general elections.
He has clarified that the campaign is not aimed at rejecting the referendum but that he is opposed to holding it alongside the general elections.
Speaking at the same event, Mr. Namulambe says Zambians should support this campaign of suspending the referendum until when they are educated on the contents of the Bill of Rights.
And Mr. Saunders says the current constitution has so many mistakes because it was rushed and thus the need to suspend the referendum so that it can be done in a proper manner.

If 90 days before the referendum, the question the electorate is supposed to answer is not known, then what we need to launch is a NO Campaign. That is, vote NO to whatever Lungu wants. Lungu is infamous for distorting obvious issues for his own benefit.

Oh come on! Look at the merit of the argument – no Zambian knows what is contained in the bill of rights and its not clear what the referendum is about; hence the need to atleast make clear what the refendum is about. And the referendum question is not even tabulated yet…we must be jokers, huh!

This is not the referendum Zambians wanted. Zambians wanted a referendum on the whole constitution as proposed by the Review Commission, not just the Bill of Rights. Instead, Lungu mutilated and then murdered the Constitution to insert his wamuyayaya ministers and his own Third Term.

Oooooopsss … opposition can be such much work hey! If this campaign is to succeed, it will have to touch every corner of the country, which is not cheap. Why not use the same money for civic education on the referendum so that voters can come and make an informed decision? just wondering!!!

A referendum and general election can not be lumped together period! The Zambian people need not be cheated as it was with the Grade 12 qualification which was rushed through and now it has led to many issues needing clarification. Why is the PF eagerly in a rush over a not yet explained content of the referendum? Zambia is indeed a “Comedy of Errors” championed by the PF! Zambians would not be “destructed” should they choose to boycott the PF orchestrated referendum! Indeed the citizenry through their representative associations did call for a referendum but did not simultaneously demand that it be held at the same time as the general election! Why does the ECZ and PF want to cause confusion?

If you asked these 3 to point to any clause in the old constitution (rather the current Bill of Rights) which they can cite they wouldn’t tell tail from head. Men grow up! You even have the capacity to get three draft copies analyse them and tell the people the contents of the Bill of Rights.

Wonders shall never end. The same people wanted the constitution and called govt all sorts of names and today the back tracking. Is it lungu who came up with the contents for these people to keep putting the blame? They pushed for it without even studing it. Where is father chiti and his group? When they were pressuring govt did they even take time to study the contents. During his swear in ceremony ECL promised to deliver a people driven constitution and that is what his doing. Alot of money was spent but no one among the opposition bothered to study it and yet there were just to busy pushing govt.
