Zesco’s winless drought ends

Share

Zesco United ended their four-match winless drought on Wednesday when they picked up a 2-0 away win over Nchanga Rangers at Nchanga Stadium in Chingola.

The defending champions trace their last league victory prior to May 18 to April 30 when they recorded a 5-0 home win over bottom placed Mufulira Blackpool in Ndola.

Meanwhile, both goals came in the first half.

John Chingandu put Zesco ahead in the 9th minute when he headed-in a Ayo Oluwafemi cross.

Jesse Were then scored his tenth goal of the season when he bulldozed his way through Nchanga’s central defence before firing the ball past goalkeeper Joel Kambili in the 32nd minute.

Nchanga stepped on the gas in the second half but were lacking in attack where Emmanuel Banda and Bwalya Kasonde were off-form on the day.

However, Banda gave Zesco a fright when he won three quick-fire corners in the 74th that were all heading in on the near post had it not been for some frantic clearances by goalkeeper Brown Nyirenda and defender Ben Adama.

Zesco rise from 3rd to 2nd on 21 points, exchanging places with Zaanco who drew 0-0 at home with Napsa Stars.
