A group of senior UPND officials and cadres in the early hours of the morning forced their way into Copperbelt province commissioner of Police Charity Katanga’s Office demanding the release of Mr Mwamba.
And Police in Ndola on Sunday morning questioned a UPND cadre for being in possession of a fire arm while two others have been arrested for conduct likely to cause a breach of peace.
The armed cadre was among officials who had stormed Mrs. Katanga’s office demanding for the release of Mr Mwamba.
Mr Mwamba is detained at the Ndola Central police station for two counts of assault, causing damage to property and conduct likely to cause a breach of peace.
Mrs. Katanga in an interview with ZNBC News in Ndola said the unruly cadres led by former UPND parliamentarians Garry Nkombo and Request Mutanga where forced out of the Commissioner’s office.
She accused the senior UPND officials of allegedly brining confusion at the Ndola central police station.
Mrs. Katanga had to call for reinforcements to ensure that sanity and peace returned at Ndola central police station.
She said the police in the province will not rest in their resolve to bring peace and order in the country ahead of the polls.
Mr Katanga said no one will be spared in its efforts to maintain order irrespective of one’s position in society.
