Zambia National Women’s Lobby has congratulated Vice-President Inonge Mutukwa Wina on being chosen to be President Edgar Lungu’s running mate in the August 11 Presidential election.

Lobby Chairperson Beauty Katebe congratulated Ms. Wina for the diligent manner she has served as Vice President.
Mrs Katebe said Ms. Wina’s clear- minded assessment of issues and humble manner she has carried herself affirms her excellent leadership skills and suitability for the latest appointment.

“In parliament, Ms Wina was a unifying factor who upheld the decorum befitting the leader of government business which earned her the respect of members of the house from both sides,” she said.

“Ms. Wina has brought to the Zambian political scene, a fresh kind of politics that is mature, rational and anchored on servitude. ZNWL is immensely proud of Ms. Wina because she has broken the glass ceiling for women’s attainment of top tier leadership positions in politics.”

She added, “We wish Ms. Wina God’s blessings and infinite wisdom as she takes-up her new portfolio and continues to raise the profile of women higher. We also congratulate President Edgar Lungu on his bold decision to pick a woman as his running mate among many hopefuls.”

Ms Katebe said it is an open secret that women’s attainment of 50 percent representation in decision making positions at all levels cannot be achieved in isolation.

“We therefore recognize the efforts of men and women who believe in the cause for gender equality and are bold enough to act on that belief when in a position to do so. We trust that the goodwill exhibited in the appointment of Ms. Wina will be extended to the selection of the candidates who will contest in the parliamentary and local government elections.”

“The August 11 general elections present a great opportunity for Zambia to bridge the gender gap and join the ranks of South Africa and Rwanda who have higher numbers of women in political decision making positions.”

  1. Jay Jay, you are such a useless chap everything nikukondema chabe. Give credit where it is due. Just choose your Fat albert to be you running mate.

  2. Jay Jay I am in support with your comment. When will people in Zambia realize they are being taken advantage of. This is your tax paying money they are using to put on a show meanwhile you go back home hungry with no money to feed your families. Stop living in the now and start living for tomorrow and the future. How much did it cost to rent the stadium. Those musicians who is paying them. Those buses bringing in people for fee and you can’t even afford gas for your cars! Probably beer was provided for free. Think and not just gaze your eyes on the crowd because without those incentives no one would have showed up. Is the motorcade really necessary or a show off because we can abuse resources? To me this is the worst kind of fascade in all Zambian presidents. Just like the jet that took…

  3. Continued: To me this is the worst kind of fascade in all Zambian presidents. Just like the jet that took people to the USA. Yes continue supporting PF and soon you will be eating grass and weeds. No leadership and definately no vision. No wonder why our youth feel entitle to government jobs instead of looking elsewhere because of such pretentious leaders. Meanwhile they steal from the very people voting for them.
