President Edgar Lungu has claimed that more UPND supporters will defect from the party to join the PF when UPND President Hakainde Hichilema files in his nomination papers.
Addressing PF supporters who thronged the Mulungushi International Conference Centre to witness his filing in of nomination papers, President Lungu said the UPND will more defections after Mr Hichilema files in his papers on Friday.
President Lungu has since advised PF members to embrace the UPND members and old PF members who wish to return to the PF.
He advised PF members to welcome back prodigal sons who will leave UPND after Mr Hichilema announces his running mate.
President Lungu has urged all PF members who feel aggrieved to come back to the party and unite to win this year’s election.
He also emphasised on the need to conduct peaceful campaigns so that Zambia continues with its shining example of a peaceful nation.
President Lungu and his running mate Inonge Wina earlier today successfully filed in their nominations at Mulungushi International Conference Centre.
Electoral Commission of Zambia Chairman Esau Chulu declared both President Lungu and Ms. Wina valid to run for this year’s elections.
Meanwhile, President Lungu has appointed PF Deputy Spokesman Frank Bwalya as his presidential campaign deputy Manager for the 2016 general elections.
Mr Bwalya who confirmed the development said the appointment points to the confidence the Party has in him.
He said he will do his best in serving the Party.
“I promise to work closely with the MCC Samuel Mukupa the Presidential Campaign Manager. And I congratulate him on his appointment,” Mr Bwalya said.
President Lungu has since left for Copperbelt after successfully filing in his nomination.
And United Progressive People’s Party (UPP) President Savior Chishimba and his running mate a Mrs Mkandawire successfully filed in his nomination papers.

I beg to differ with you opinion on Lungu. All current political parties have a mixture of people from other parties. MMD, UPND, PF, Green Party, name them. They all have come from some party. Remember at one point we had only UNIP and it was mandatory for all Zambian to belong to this party. This means therefore that all current parties came from the background. if you say ECL does not represent the interest of PF, kindly let us know what the interest of PF are? How do you know he never made an effort to reconcile with those who have left. He may have offered them an olive branch after he won the last elections but the guys could not swallow their pride nor accept that he won. We want UNITY of purpose and not selfishness of just wanting to lead. The unity must focus on developing the NATION and not individual glory. Like Nakachinda put it this morning that the MMD and the Great PF party is not for individual gains but to work together and find the better ways to fix the current problems. A manifesto is a plan and only God has the clearest vision and not an individual or grouping. That is more the reason we always say “God willing” when planning or talking of anticipated activities.
