Power imports will continue-Energy PS

Government says it will continue with ongoing power imports from Mozambique despite increased power generation at Itezhi Tezhi power station.

ZESCO recently announced that the generation capacity at its Itezhi Tezhi Power station has increased to full capacity following a rapid improvement in water inflows.

He development has seen load shedding hours reduced from 8 to 4 Hours daily.

But Energy Permanent Secretary Emelda Chola said Government will not discontinue power imports because they are playing an integral part in the reduction in load shedding hours.

Brigadier General Chola revealed that Government cannot unilaterally cut the power importation contracts because they are binding for a year.

She said Government will only review them after the expiry of the initial one-year period.

Brigadier General Chola said Government is importing about 300 MegaWatts from three different entities and it would be irresponsible to cut the contracts mid-way.

She also revealed that an additional power is exported to be fed into the main ZESCO grid by mid-July once the thermal power plant at Maamba is commissioned which will significantly improve load management by ZESCO.

    ??????????????????

  2. Suddenly the water inflows have increased…then who said it would take 3 years to fill up something does not add up here? Too much incompetence in this company Zesco and meddlng by empty tins

  3. HOW DULL INDEED, YOU DIMWITS, WHERE HAS ALL THE RAIN WATER BEEN GOING?
HAS GVT FOLDED ITS ARMS ALL ALONG? HAVE YOU HEARD OF THE SOUTHERN AFRICA
POWER POOL? DONT YOU KNOW THAT ELECTRICITY COMPANIES IN ZAMBIA,
SOUTH AFRICA, ZIMBABWE AND CONGO SHARE POWER? GO BACK TO SCHOOL.

  4. So one river is miraculously full and the other is not-how come? These fools dont know how to lie.Besides, why talk about power imports now,who asked you?The only reason you ll continue to import power is because you are the Direct beneficiaries in those deals,You are shareholders in the private firms that are importing power-thats the reason why.You said it ll take 3years to fill up Kariba so why sign a 1 year contract? And besides,do you ve to sign a contract to buy something? Those companies supplying you with electricity are sellers, and you are the buyer,so what contract do you to buy something,?You just buy what you need and as a customer, when you dont need the service anymore, you just stop buying it-thats all.Stop lying now!!!!

  5. Of course power imports will continue!

Do you think Lungu and his incompetent clowns have the intelligence to use our natural resources to make Zambia self sufficient in power? Or that they will give up the huge kickbacks that has put K23 million into Lungus bank account?

Wakeup you dull people, this is all for PF benefit.
