Lungu concerned with disregard for human rights

Share

lunguPresident Edgar Lungu has noted with great concern the rampant disregard for human rights in Zambia.

The Head of State made this observation this morning when he sworn in Human Rights Commission Chairperson Mudford Mwandenga and his Vice Kondwa Chibiya, Commissioners Dr. Harrington Akombwa, Ackson Zulu, Fred Waliuya and Yuyo Kambikambi and General Education Permanent Secretary Henry Tukombe.

President Lungu noted that there is less respect for human rights in Zambia, stressing the need to promote human rights in the country and respect for each other’s rights.

President Lungu has since implored the Human Rights Commission to promote human rights in the country not only on paper, but in terms of action.

He further urged the new Human Rights Commission Chairperson to ensure the commission is present in all parts of the country as a way of spearheading the promotion of human rights.

And President Lungu has advised the new General Education Permanent secretary to ensure he collaborates with the commission by ensuring that children in schools are well informed on their rights as Zambians so that there is respect for other persons’ rights.

Meanwhile, the Human Rights Commission commended President Lungu, for swearing in the Chairperson, the Vice Chairperson and four (4) other Commissioners of the Human Rights Commission today, 13th July 2016, in accordance with Section 6(1) of the Human Rights Commission Act No. 36 of 1996.

Human Rights Commission Commissioner Fred Waliuya says his focus will be to promote the rights of the physically challenged in the country.
Mr. Waliuya says coming from a disability background, he will fight hard in ensuring that the voices of persons with disabilities are heard in the country.

    • AMAZING! WHAT AN INDIVIDUAL WITH SERIOUS MOOD SWINGS! YESTERDAY HE WAS KILLING PEOPLE WHO WERE EXERCISING THEIR HUMAN RIGHTS, TODAY HE SHAMELESSLY STANDS UP AND CLAIMS TO ABHOR THE VISE. THIS GUY IS CRAZY. EPILEPSY AND ARVs HAVE DESTROYED THE BRAIN CELLS OF THIS MORON.

    • What is more than the right to live Mr President sure. Our sister, mother and country woman her life was taken by the people you command and the Chief Commander and no word on the matter from you. Too little late and 11 August will speak for her.

    • LUNGU HAS SOME MENTAL PROBLEM. I CAN’T BELIEVE HE IS THE ONE SAYING THIS. THERE IS SOMETHING SERIUOSLY WRONG WITH HIS BRAIN. HE IS NOT NORMAL.

    • The main culprit himself trying to look smart. No one can deny that there are well known thugs that have shot people in broad daylight and the police do not shot at them because they are PF carders. They even almost kill each other

    • Even Idi Amina had this endless rhetoric about promoting human rights while sending his stooges to on a killing rampage of those likely to challenge him.

What human rights is drunk lungu talking about after denying people in Lusaka the basic human right to assemble so they can be addressed by their leaders.

Lungu you can not f00l us at the eleventh hour and expect us to fall for your stupid antics.

PF and Lungu must go period .

      VIVA HH and UPND.

    • Two months ago, I made a decision to stop commenting on anything concerning Zambia and I am happy I did that. The place is rotten, not the good citizens, but the whole system, leadership, everything is a total mess and a big Joke. Even the electoral system is a big joke. If the opposition win these elections, the new leadership must overhaul the entire Army, Air-force, Police, justice system, constitution, education system, Home Affairs and all other government ministries.

I have silently been reading all comments including ones from the demon possessed, Mr Kudos and his kind. Anyway, all the best to those sensible bloggers here. I will miss you.

  1. Really laughable how detouched to reality these absolutely Lazy Bum Edgar is…remember what he stated when he swore in those Constitutional Judges? To date we have not heard anything from …simply being put on GRZ payroll.

  2. Mr. Snake in a bottle your speech and actions are line acts in parallel and you think Zambians are fools. Did you respect the human rights on Friday when you ordered Police to shoot innocent citizens, when ever did you respect human rights, Shame to you.

  3. Lungu rules based on theories.is lungu president or he has someone who gives him instructions on wht to say and the invisible leader does something which majority of us are seeing to be worrisome.

  4. What is Lungu talking about? Does Lungu know that every Zambian has a right to belong to a political party of his choice? If so why did he direct the IG of the Police,Mr Kanganja to deal brutally with UPND supporters? Last Friday ZRP and PF militias shot and killed Mapenzi in cold blood. Lungu is the Commander-in-in Chief of armed forces. Does it mean the Police and PF thugs have a right to shoot and kill unarmed and innocent civilians? This is damage control but the Hague is waiting. Its too late to save face.

  5. President Lungu noted that there is less respect for human rights in Zambia, stressing the need to promote human rights in the country and respect for each other’s rights..REALLY MR PRESIDENT??

  6. So amazed to see on television today of British Prime minister David Cameron’s official motorcade being just his one official car with 3 police motorcycles in a country with serious terrorist threats. Here with No terrorist threat, the presidential motorcade is 16 vehicles and countless police motor bikes.

    • Cameron is Outgoing and is protected by CCTV cameras at every corner and very swift response times these are the invisible deterants…in Africa the opposite works better.

  7. But You hâte the président very Much why. Like or not the sur me man Will resaface again in state house.like it or not.sory

  8. So dumb, he should have been pushing for legislation and amendments to current legislation to protect the human rights if at all he’s interested in that.
It’s all talk and no action, how long has PF been in power?
As a matter of facts human rights violations have worsened during PF and Lungu’s tenure.

  9. And see who is talking about the human rights abuse indeed he is the most incompetent and idi0tic president of the millennium.

  10. Pf Is still popullar it Can not be compared to n’y other political party .hence victory for the pf Is a must.

  11. Please some one help me to answer This question.what Will happen to HH after 11/08/16? Where Is He going to be?

    • Selfsame cadres always seem to be confused.Look beyond the selfsame pf,upnd or whatever. It is about the selfsame people and the future of your country. The selfsame president will be replaced whether now or after 10 years. The question you lazy bu3ms should ask yourself is, what legacy will you leave behind or what trend are you setting for the future? Britain has just seen resignation of the PM because their politics are based on appreciation of people needs. If people need peace, good governance and rights and you are unable to give them resign but in the shadow of my Africa, the selfsame people think it is a football match, where the winner gets the trophy and the opponent gets the humiliation.Really laughable!

      I thank you

  12. Zambia is indeed a failed state, 50 years after independence still putting in place human rights commissions, when countries like Namibia that got independence last, this office is functional many years ago. & the hypocrite President says he is concerned about human rights in the country, when he is actually the abuser of human rights. Who is framing others for crimes they did not commit? Who is dispatching cadres & police to violently abuse our citizens? How many victims crying for justice & are not given in this country? Even this commission will remain useless like the police, ECZ, justice, ZRA & other institutions that are politically used like condoms, as long as lungu is president, it is just for window dressing, to save face

  13. I have just noted that Lusaka Time is for UPND Supporters. No matter how hard the president works hard to improve our Mother. The so called UPND supporters who are purely under fives in politics always criticises. Good work mr president and shame on the UPND President who is advising people to put on the black Clothes on Friday. He always thinks of satanic reactions in his head. UPND is a party for free mansons. Shame on you

    • @ kakolwe

Your “humble”, “vise” and “anointed” CONVICTED EMBEZZLER is worshiping free masons “coat of arms” embossed on US Dollar and yet, you are against masonry?!?

What is it, lack of knowledge or just plain uneducated confused 5tupidity at work?

If I was going to choose between party of Free Masons and party of CONVICTED thieves, have guess which one I will choose?

  14. when you read to much insults from opposition it means that are hurt that government has done well. Simple barometer.. If you want to go the wrong way politically follow Nevers Mumba. Simple barometer.

  15. Yes, Zambia as a signatory to the UN Charter must observe human rights. Law enforcement, the judiciary, MPs, and all Zambians must understand what human rights mean. In fact all grade 12 must pass human rights exam before they get admission to college. Policemen shooting Mapenzi Chibulo, denying campaign rally permits, freedom of expresion is a human right.
The President can start discussion of human rights by first asking for a moment of silence for Mapenzi Chibulo and others who have died due to police brutallity not recognizing individual human rights in Zambia. Way to go Mr President.

  16. HH is a business man, whether he wins or looses election will still play a role in the development of this country unlike you PF cadre who will eat your kaka, coz the future of this country is very bleak under lungu.

  17. How dare you always criticises . uyo mungulu mumitwe yenu and with that dilapidated stupid calibre iam sorry your HH who is purely a Satanist will never get to plot 1. You need to give credit where it is due ba UPND. Zambia is a Christian Nation and not a Free Manson Nation. UPND always thinks of Satanism in there heads. The sysmbol they use is for Satanists, The corporate colour is for Blood, On Friday HH is advising his UPND Supporters to wear Black Clothes. Black means darkness. Only big bullies and Satanists will vote for HH and GBM

    • Just prepare to go into Bauleni baba. You used all your money on fancy cars prostitutes and beer and now you are worried that you are going soon.

    • @kakolwe, Monkeys like you are very happy with Lungu’s “Banana republic”
Every normal Zambia knows PF politics and governance stinks.

  18. Lungu’s funders Ibrahim Ismail Yousuf and his brother Mohamed Zuneid Ismail have refused to pay back K5 million plus interest to the Development Bank of Zambia saying there is nothing anyone can do as they control government through president Edgar Lungu.
Ibrahim Ismail Yousuf is now believed to to have fled to Dubai where he coordinates the corruption from.
The Yousuf brothers who now are among the 10 richest Zambians through tender corruption obtained K5 billion (K5 million rebased) from DBZ in 2007 but have refused to pay it back.
Ibrahim Ismail Yousuf who gave his address as plot 12920 Mumbwa Road in Lusaka and Mohamed Zuneid Ismail of 16 D/687/ Mosque obtained the loan using a fake company called ‘African Textiles Zambia’.
The nature of business for African Textiles Zambia,…

  19. H ow does he cry when he is the one sending these people to kill innocent people, shame on Chagwa

  20. Mr. Selfish Real obsequious cadre, Shame on your selfish pocket, All what you are saying is to protect your selfish pocket even when you know PF has failed you keep praising them.

  21. AMAZING!

  22. Two PF women supporters clad in green regalia from a shanty visited my wife who used to be their classmate. They had a discussion on politics and how they have been told HH is rich and pompus hence their support for Edgar Lungu. At the end of their visit they begged my wife to harvest for them some of our vegetables and some mealie meal. My wife gave them the vegetables and a 90 kg bag of maize ( waiting to sell to FRA). After they went I shade a tear. Just wondering how many Zambians from the lower echelons think like that. They cant afford vegetables or mealie meal and they are saying ‘ PABWATO’. What a cursed nation!

    • @joseph.alot of pf supporters are in that boat.my friends sing praise to lungu but everyday at sala mwana ,i have stopped helping them nati lungu shud help u but my bemba friends just take at mbuya ,wht type of mindset is this?

  23. Those of us who have tried out this so-called Human Rights Commission know it is just another job-creation scheme for figureheads (or friends sometimes, or to satisfy international convention signatures). It does nothing that any ordinary citizen can put trust in. We really need to strengthen institutions so that things are not done after the fact or as a motivation to chase after our political adversaries. Awe mwe – it is so tiring to observe the dysfunction in our beautiful country…

  24. Coming from Lungu as it is laughable! Was Lungu talking about Human Rights under the influence of his favorite drink,Jameson Whiskey? If Lungu understands the meaning of Human Rights why is he persecuting supporters of UPND? Lungu is on record directing ZRP to deal ruthlessly with Opposition supporters. Last week the Pf Police shot and killed UPND supporters at a rally in Chawama . The problem with Lungu is that he is untrustworthy and whatever he says the opposite is true. A frog can wear lipstick but it will never win a human beauty contest. Its too late to re-brand Lungu and PF. People have already decided to vote for HH and his UPND Team in huge numbers on 11th August 2016. Goodbye Chakolwa. Welcome to State House HH.

  25. Upnd is doomed this tribalists will not go anywhere just wait and see. This is the end of them like watermelon l have travelled around the country Lungu is very very popular. Please mark my words upnd is finished…

  26. These comments are an overwhelming indictment on the president from his employers, the citizens. Such robust debate and critical views need to be intensified even when HH and UPND takes over next month. We need to see the restoration of servant-leadership in politics. There is too much pomposity and false bravado stints by most gentlemen in state house. Fridays call to commemorate Mapenzi’s cruel cold-blooded murder is completely in order, especially seeing that our dear president has not ONCE even mentioned this young lady’s name with remorse. Through her horrific death, we will continue to speak for her. Thanks President HH for calling for calm and no retaliation from our supporters, such is real leadership.

  27. Mr President, thanks for being in Katuba today. However this is the day that Zesco keeps us without power from 6 in the morning going to 19hrs now. We are still in darkness. Zesco is the most inefficient organisation in the country

  28. If only you could put politics aside and take action on those perpetrating this abuse…. the Police off course…. Then you would be a great leader walking the talk… Manje so…….. Kaya….

  29. It is in his power to ensure the human rights are respected; even the right to life. That is what an unarmed girl, Mapenzi, was denied. And yes, I attended the rally where he was giving the instructions to that ex-namazai, Kakoma Kanganja, and his uniformed street adults, to deal with UPND. They were simply following Lungu’s orders. Surprisingly, the man comes out complaining that human rights are not being followed. Whom is he complaining to? Only God and Esther know how many ‘jemasons’ he took before saying those words.

  30. The people have spoken and it is clear that everyone can see through this man’s ill intents to deceive the masses. Drunken speeches indeed.

  31. Uncle Triangle Lungu warned you this boy Chagwa was mentally unstable, with a fetish for biting people he disagreed with. Did you listen?? NO!!
Vote Chagwa back in, & he will use his fangs to bite.
You just ask the families of opposition members, who Chagwa to maimed, & shot dead, using his P.F, Storm- troopers
    HUMAN RIGHTS MY A2SE!!

  32. Big Hypocrite

MAPENZI’S BLOOD IS ON LUNGU’S HEAD
MAPENZI’S BLOOD IS ON LUNGU’S HEAD
MAPENZI’S BLOOD IS ON LUNGU’S HEAD
MAPENZI’S BLOOD IS ON LUNGU’S HEAD
MAPENZI’S BLOOD IS ON LUNGU’S HEAD
MAPENZI’S BLOOD IS ON LUNGU’S HEAD
MAPENZI’S BLOOD IS ON LUNGU’S HEAD

  33. Human rights for who? Zambians or Ugandans? And he schemes of how to break them behind closed door, joke. Mapenzi’s blood is disturbing him indeed!

  34. The main culprit himself trying to look smart. Who ever graduated this guy from law school made a big mistake

  35. You lazy bu4m cadres get it in your numb skulls, this is not a football match but the future of your country.Who ever loses or wins should take human rights really really serious, for all we know governments come and go but human rights are a must.Really laughable, everything is politics, for once agree on one thing that is human rights for all.In the shadow of Africa it is all politics, that is why you fight because you think politics is like a football match where hooligans like England and Russia Euro game literally beat each other.Really laughable!

    I thank you

  36. Yaba you would not believe that was coming from president Lungu. The journalist in charge of writing his speeches is trying took hard. It would benefit the country if the president stayed sober more often. His words and actions don’t just add up!

  37. this man is a joker. i told him to stop violence long time ago. he did not listen and instead employed cadres and trusted other cadres like like Kaizer, Fatherless Bwalya, Kambwili, Mumbi, Chama, Chanda and kaganja etc and now many lives have been lost with young Mapenzi’s life cut short by his police thugs. sorry we don’t trust you Lungu.

  38. This president he must be crying to himself about himself not observing the human rights, is he not the one to educate the police to observe human rights when dealing with unarmed civilians? What a shame ati ba lawyer.

  39. Human rights for HH and GBV to be caged for killing their cadre. If they had stopped their unruly cadres from rioting she was not going to die, murderers.

  40. ECL you should be the last person to talk about human rights in Zambia. Your govt is killing anyone who is UPND and you are there mocking us. Time will tell when you will answer all these cold blood killings on innocent citizens.

  41. @Kakolwe, your name really fits you. HH has advised his members and any other sympathisers to wear black on Friday as a sign that we are very angry with Mapenzi’s gunning down in cold blood by the police. You have decided to rubbish this saying black stands for darkness. Are you a white man?

  42. Mr. Triangle the cousin to Lungu told us the truth that man in state house is not 100% okay due to Epilepsy. Don’t be surprised you were told and we are seeing the results. He was not malicious but said the truth.

  43. Lungu is just a kama punk, with no shred of leadership in him. He is a chancer, who has gotten drunk with power forgetting we are on this earth temporarily to do good for others and not massage our egos. History will rank him as the worst President this country has ever had, a non entity who did not feel the burning desire to change the lives of the majority of this country so that he could be remembered fondly for having passed this way.

  44. Hypocrit Chagwa as usual. How can he be concerned when it’s him sending his PF thugs to brutalise and kill innocent members of the opposition who want to assemble freely. God will punishi Chagwa EL.
