Zesco chase historic double over Al Ahly

Zesco United for a valuable away result this evening in Egypt that will hand them their 2016 CAF Champions League semifinal place with a game in hand.

George Lwandamina’s side take on Al Ahly away in Suez this evening in a 20h30 kickoff in a match that will be live on SuperSport 9.

Zesco beat the record eight-time champions 3-2 in the first leg meeting on June 18 in Ndola to go top of Group A on match day one.

Zesco are currently second on 7 points, tied with leaders Wydad Casablanca of Morocco.

Hosts Al Ahly are 3rd on 4 points and level on points with bottom of the log ASEC Mimosa who visit Wydad on Sunday.

Zesco have never beaten Al Ahly away and lost there 1-0 in their last visit against the Cairo giants six years ago.

But Zesco captain and goalkeeper Jacob Banda is confident they can pick up a dramaic win in Egypt where Al Ahly have already lost once to ASEC where the Cote d’Ivoire side won 2-1 on June 28.

“I think it is possible to complete a double over Al Ahly looking at the way we are playing and the crop of players we have assembled,” Banda said.

Victory will see Zesco become the first Zambian club to adbance to the Champions League semifinals.
