Construction of the US$ 150 million water pipeline from Kafue to Lusaka has commenced.

Lusaka Water and Sewerage Company (LWSC) Public Relations Officer Topsy Sikalinda confirmed the development to ZANIS in a telephone interview today, that the project will be completed in 2 years’ time.

The Kafue-Lusaka water valve project is aimed at improving supply of water to Lusaka residents and seven other districts in Lusaka Province that are serviced has commenced.

ZANIS reports that Mr. Sikalinda said that the contractor has moved on site to ensure that works progress.

He said that the water utility firm has made progress in resettling families and businesses that will be displaced by the construction of the water pipeline.

Meanwhile Mr. Sikalinda has appealed to the general public to desist from constructing houses on top of water installation lines.

Mr. Sikalinda’s appeal follows an incident in new chilenje area where a sewer line bust in the bedroom of a Lusaka resident’s house.

He said the technicians from LWSC team have since rectified the situation.

Mr Sikalinda urged the public to understand Article 29, of 1991 which clearly states that building of any infrastructure on top of a pipe line is an offence.

  1. So when this is complete how will LWSC pump the water when there is load shedding? Or are they going to use diesel pumps?

    • Either way. Does it really matter? Like you will ever appreciate anything progressive done under this Govt. You rants have now become so PREDICTED and INCOSENQUANTIONAL!

  2. Please improve your reporting if you are going to send $150m on pipes then its too expensive… specify how many pump houses, dams will be included in costs. $150m is a lot of money!!

    • Come on Jay Jay! Really? It is a pipe like to supply Water to Lusaka and Surrounding Districts. What does that tell you? If the supply of water requires pump houses are built, do you really think an American funded project would NOT INCLUDE the correct numbers? And why doe you, a cadre residing somewhere abroad, would want to know such specific details of the contract/project?

By the way, you don’t always need to build a DAM in order to HARVEST WATER from a river to supply a City/Municipality.

    • Now you will see how these contracts and projects will be shared by these hungry corrupt empty tins…you will be just hearing figures being dropped.

  3. considering this is US Govt. money they`ll make sure the project is done on time and correctly these chaps dont play go look at that base they built in IBEX with underground bunkers
