The Zambia Meteorological Department (ZMD) has dispelled fears that Zambia will be hit by bouts of heat wave.

ZMD acting director Dr Joseph Kanyanga said information circulating on social media that Zambia will experience heat weave is false and misleading.

Speaking to ZANIS in an interview in Gwembe, Dr Kanyanga explained that Zambia will only experience high temperatures as opposed to a heat wave.

He further explained that Zambia will experiencing high temperatures as a result of the dry atmosphere experienced during the 2015/ 2016 rain season and that the dry atmosphere tenders to pick up in October resulting in hot temperatures.

Dr Kanyanga observed that October is the hottest month in Zambia and that temperatures are expected to rise from 20 to 41 degrees Celsius in some areas in the country.

He cited Gembwe valley, Mfuwe and Mambwe as some of the areas that will experience high temperatures of up to 41 degrees Celsius.

Dr Kanyanga urged the public not to panic and assured that the predicated good rainfall will result in improved cloud cover that will cushion the high temperatures.

He pointed out that some areas have already started receiving rain showers because of the improved cloud cover.

Dr Kanyanga implored the general public to not panic as improved cloud cover will help to moderate the high temperatures.

He however, cautioned the general public to refrain from unnecessary exposure of their bodies to sun light as it is harmful but should instead take a lot of fluids and stay in shade areas.

    • It’s been properly dispelled. It looks like there are elements in Zambia that like to alarm citizens by inferring lurking danger at every corner……..and all because of PF and the President! Go figure!

Everybody in Zambia knows October is the hottest month, we learn it in a Geography at school, so why create a panic. Just be sensible and drink lots of water and stay in the shade as much as possible. If you can, get cooling air ventilators, drink chilled drinks. Replace salt lost in sweat via drinks and food intake. Keep an eye on The elderly and pop into clinics or hospital for checks if unwell from the heat. And always, as we are a Christian nation, we pray and keep faith in a better tomorrow.

  1. The Headline and the opening paragraph are at variance. The spelling of WAVE and WEAVE are confused and then it not clear what the impact of the 2015/16 rainy season has on the upcoming one but jumps to say October is the hottest month – which we all know and those temperatures (41 degrees) highlighted for the named locations are normal at this time of the year. So what is the real deal here? The expert instead of telling the public the DIFFERENCE BETWEEN the HEAT WAVE and NORMAL HOT TEMPERATURE in ZAMBIA CASE but just skirts around the issue! MEDIOCRITY AT ITS BEST!!
