A TWENTY –SIX-year-old inmate of Katete Correctional Centre has been sent to 18 years imprisonment with hard labour by the Chipata High Court for sodomising his fellow inmate.
Appearing before Judge Petronella Ngulube was Saulos Phiri who was convicted for sodomy contrary to the laws of Zambia.
Particulars of the offence were that on 15th day of April 2015, the accused had carnal knowledge of Anthony Ziko against the order of nature.
The court heard that on the 3rd day of April around 03:00 hours Ziko was fast asleep in the cell at Katete Prison and whilst asleep he felt something penetrating his anus and he woke up and held the object that was penetrating on his anus.
He then realised that it was a manhood that was penetrating on his anus band he shouted for help in which the inmates woke up and lit the light.
It was at this point that the victim identified the accused person as Saulos Phiri who had canal knowledge of him in the cells.
The accused was apprehended and was reported to an officer on duty Sub-Inspector Ngoma.
During mitigation, the accused pleaded with the court to exercise leniency on him.
Passing ruling, Ms Justice Ngulube said she heard what was in the mitigation and sentenced the accused to 18 years imprisonment with hard labour for sodomy.
Ms Justice Ngulube also sentenced Samson Sakala 40, a farmer of Kandiyo Village of Chief Kalindawalo in Petauke District to 18 years imprisonment with hardlabour for defiling his own twelve years old daughter.
Particulars of the offence were that on 15th day of April last year, Sakala followed his daughter in the bush and started having canal knowledge of the minor.
He was apprehended and taken to police where they charged him with the offence of defilement.
