The Patriotic Front (PF) party in Sibuyunji district in Lusaka Province has added its voice in condemning the opposition United Party for National Development (UPND) for allegedly boycotting the official opening of parliament on September 30, 2016.
On September 30, 2016, all the 58 UPND Members of Parliament (MPs) stayed away from parliament during the official opening of the first session of the 12th National Assembly.
PF Sibuyunji district chairman Joseph Kasonde observed that the UPND might be rendered irrelevant if the behaviour of its MPs continues.
Mr. Kasonde urged the Zambians to support the PF, President Edgar Lungu, and to ignore the UPND.
ZANIS reports that Mr. Kasonde said this in a statement released in Lusaka today.
“The UPND is supposed to be offering checks and balances to the government for the benefit of the Zambian people and not being troublesome. Otherwise, it will definitely not be a factor anytime soon through to 2021,” Mr. Kasonde said
He has since advised the UPND to accept the post-election results and respect President Edgar Lungu as a duly elected head of state.
Mr. Kasonde has further urged UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema to be realistic and admit that he lost the August 11, 2016 presidential poll
