Opposition UPND President Hakainde Hichilema has moved swiftly to congratulate US President Elect Donald Trump.
Mr Hichilema said Mr Trump’s victory again shows that the American people can rise and show the world that they are great believers in Constitutional democracy and rule of law.
“We want to congratulate the newly elected American President Donald J. Trump and the American people for once again rising and showing the world that they are great believers in Constitutional democracy and rule of law. There are always many lessons to be learnt in the American politics which is that they freely exercise their rights and freedoms to choose their leaders,” Mr Hichilema said.
He said having keenly followed the campaign period and the debates, one can clearly see that all the contenders freely traversed their great nation and marketed themselves unhindered by institutionalised brutality and suppression which is characteristic of most African countries, including Zambia.
“Even in instances where some American media houses had their own preferences in terms of candidates, they still gave an opportunity and fair coverage to all contesting parties, hence giving citizens the right to choose based on the information they were hearing from all contenders,” he said.
He added, “It is these values and eventual outcome that makes everyone happy because they are based on a free, fair, transparent and credible electoral process whose results show the will of the people. As a leader of the greatest democracy in the world, we hope President-elect Trump will stump his authority and guide emerging democracies, especially in Africa, on the need to respect the rule of law, human rights, and constitutionalism which is key to economic development.”
“Once more and on behalf of our people, party and indeed my own behalf, I say congratulations US President elect Donald Trump.”

Mr Joshua told his congregation on Sunday that he “saw” a woman winning.

A section of that “prophecy” was posted on the preacher’s Facebook page but is no longer available.

1. To whom was the message delivered by this attention seeking HH?
2. It is HH who needs to.learn lessons in democracy from Hilary Clinton and not Africans or Zambians. You see, Clinton won the popular vote by 0.2%. She polled 59,598,862 votes (47.7%) against Trump’s 59,380,957 (47.5%). However under the constitution of the USA winning is determined by electoral college rather than popular vote. Hillary has conceded defeat as she respects the constitution and tge rules of the game, she did not “…let’s disregard the constitution and the electoral college system and declare me the winner because I am more popular than Trump”. That is what HH would have said if he was Clinton but fortunately that is USA. What am I saying?…

Well I am drawing a parallel to HH, he was beaten by a small margin, he petitioned and his petition was constitutionally thrown out mainly due to his lazy and ignorant coterie of lawyers who could only think in tribal rather than legal terms. Clinton has immediately moved on and encouraged younger Americans to take the strughle in future elections. In contrast two months after the ballot in Zambia HH is still crying. No wonder the American Ambassador Eric Shultz mockingly referred to Zambia when he talked about how tight the race was between Trump and Clinton.
The tragedy of HH and UPBD is that unlike other parties that contest and win elections in Zambia, UPND is the only party that has no internal discourse, where members do not want to advise their president, and where the president will not take advice from his members even if they to do so. As a rezult, HH has never won the elections and will never as long as his members look to him as a god who knows it all and can never make a mistake.
