A meeting organised by the ruling PF aimed at unifying the party on the Copperbelt province was overshadowed by Roan Member of Parliament Chishimba Kambwili who called on party members not to embrace what he called newcomers to the party.
The meeting held at Lowenthal Theatre in Ndola on Friday afternoon saw Dr Kambwili insisting that newcomers in PF should not be allowed to hijack the party.
The statement by Dr Kambwili who was recently fired by President Edgar Lungu is a direct contradiction of the directive issued by the Head of State three days ago when he was leaving for South Africa.
President Lungu urged PF founder members to welcome and work with new ones especially those that have been given leadership positions in government and the party.
The heated meeting was attended by PF Secretary General Davies Mwila, National Chairman Ngosa Simbyakula, Member of the Central Committee in Charge of Health Dr Joseph Katema and PF Copperbelt Chairman Steven Kainga and several provincial, district and constituency officials.
The meeting was held as part of the PF senior leadership’s fact finding mission on the Copperbelt in an effort to unify the party in the province.
Efforts by Dr Simbyakula to preach messages of peace and unity during the message were in vain as Dr Kambwili insisted that old members should be in charge of key positions in the province.
He said old members on the Copperbelt will have themselves to blame if they allow new comers to ‘walk all over them’ in the province.
In direct reference to Copperbelt Provincial Minister Bowman Lusambo, Dr Kambwili said it is illogical for the PF in the province to allow someone who was just recently appointed to start challenging their decisions.
Mr Lusambo who is also Kabushi MP is at the centre of controversy following his strong stance against illegal land allocation in the province which has angered a number of PF officials in the area.
Dr Kambwili who spoke for over 30 minutes without mentioning President Edgar Lungu kept referring to late President Michael Sata in his speech.
And some of the Councillors and Ndola District executive committee members who attended the meeting expressed disappointment that Mr Mwila failed to address the real issues during the meeting.
“It’s a pity that the S.G doesn’t seem to know what to do. He appeared weak during the meeting and his mission to the Copperbelt is a failure because he has failed to address the real issues here. The S.G allowed Kambwili to manipulate the agenda of the meeting and we ended up discussing Bowman (Lusambo) through out,” one of the Councillors who spoke on condition of anonymity lamented.
Another District official interviewed called on President Lungu to intervene in the matter by disciplining Dr Kambwili.
“Today’s meeting has confirmed that Kambwili is not working with us. He is undermining the President and he is a danger to the unity of the PF. The best thing is for the Central Committee to expel him,” she said on condition that her name is withheld.
When reached for a comment, Mr Lusambo said he could not comment on the matter as he did not attend the meeting because he was busy with parliamentary duties in Lusaka.

Kambwili forgets that without these “new comers ” PF were going to lose the 2015 presidential election. Edgar had no means to carry out his campaigns as Guy Scott had plugged all sources of funds. It took the “generosity ” of one Nyama Soya for Edgar to kickstart his campaign weeks after everyone else had started. The current many seats PF are a result of the so called strangers.
