Zambia down DRC to reach Cosafa U20 final

Superb Zambia are through to the final of the Cosafa Under-20 Championship after overcoming DR Congo 2-1 in Wednesday’s semifinal at Moruleng Stadium.

Boyd Musonda scored the winner 13 minutes from full time as Zambia reached the final with a perfect record.

Coach Beston Chambeshi’s boys led after 36 minutes with Fashion Sakala netting the opener.

The two teams went into the half time break with a 1-1 score line after Chadrack Lukombe equalised four minutes earlier.

Zambia will face the winners of the second semifinal tie between hosts South Africa and Angola in Friday’s final.

  1. This is fantastic. Well done guys. The coach did a good a job by the way he selected the team members….merit is the in thing unlike these other spots like athletics under Mpondela. How many times have we heard good news about our athletes and the man is not ashamed at all. INTER COMPANY or whatever you call it can build Zambia.

    • I share your pain on athletics Saddened. Mpondela has made the ICR the biggest event on the athletics calendar. we therefore know who the fastest ceo is and not who the fastest man in zambia is. Mpondela should just let Matete take over.

  2. This is a good sign of Kamanga being at the helm of FAZ. The boys have shown the traditional quality of the Zambian football that we have know since early 70s. The only challenge is that we need to be strictly with ages of the players so that we do not deceive ourselves regarding the status of the nursery. We say this, because in the past we have seen players in the nursery categories being promoted to senior team and fail to deliver because they were in mid thirties and old enough to be with the senior national team not more than two years hence the inconsistent in the selection of players and failure to come up with a strong team. It is highly time that we start formulating statutory instruments to regulate all the sporting disciplines such as providing sporting equipment to all school…
