The seven victims who died after being struck by lightning in Katete
District of Eastern Province on Tuesday have been put to rest.

Katete District Commissioner (DC) Joseph Makukula said the six
victims from the same family were buried at Chikwanda village and
another one was buried at Kalapula village in Dole area on Thursday.

“We buried yesterday (Thursday) and Government provided everything
needed,” he said.

And Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit(DMMU) regional
coordinator, Ingribet Bondo said the unit donated seven caskets and
food stuffs worth K7,000 to the funeral of  the seven people who were
struck by lightening.

Mr Bondo said the items were delivered to DMMU Katete district office
who delivered them to the funeral houses.

He also said the DMMU would  start distributing 152 iron sheets and
food stuffs to 19  vulnerable households whose houses collapsed owing to
heavy rains in Chipata district.

He said each household would be given seven Iron sheets, a 25
kilogramme bag of mealie-meal and a five litres container of cooking
oil.
Mr Bondo said this follows a district disaster report which has been
submitted to his office.

He said his office would continue responding to all disasters in the
province once they receive a report from the district office because
such calamities were more likely to happen since the province would
this season receive above normal rainfall.
