Chief Government spokesperson Mulenga Kampamba says the country stands to benefit alot from President Lungu’s foreign trips.

Ms Kapamba, who is also minister of Information and Broadcasting Services , has urged Zambians not to continue criticizing President Lungu’s foreign trips but consider the economic benefits attached to be realised.

ZANIS reports in Kitwe that Ms Kampamba said in an interview that the general public should realise that action should be taken where the benefits outweigh the costs hence there is always a cost to every economic step.

The Chief government spokesperson stated that the benefits from the president’s foreign trips outweigh the costs that some people are complaining about.

A lot of investment deals have been signed in various sectors of the economy as a result of the president’s foreign trips, she added.

Ms. Mulenga also wondered why those criticizing the Head of State on his foreign trips have remained mute on his recently cancelled trip to Egypt if they are genuine in their concerns.

And speaking in a separate interview, Private Sector Development Association (PSDA) chairman Yusuf Dodia has urged President Lungu to focus on attracting investors in the energy sector.

Mr. Dodia said currently the power sector is critically in need of investment in order as it affects other sectors.

The Republican President should also try to attract investors in the tourism sector as the sector has remained underexploited despite its great potential to contribute to national economic development development, he said.

Sections of society have of late expressed concern over President Lungu’s foreign trips claiming that the trips were a drain to the depleted national coffers.

    • After 52yrs & 6 presidents I understand what presidential diplomacy means, so I don’t need these tired excuses.
I also understand why state house wants to hang around with “investors”.
If these trips were beneficial to me you wouldn’t need to be explaining that everyday, I’d be enjoying the benefits.
By the way why is it that its us to learn from others & no one is coming to learn from us.
Or is it a case of Edward hating Esther’s ‘cooking’ in preference to the neighbors’ (by his own admission).

    • #Itizi Turu: I love your wisdom! The only beneficiary is Lungu who wants the $75,000 allowance per foreign trip. He also wants to legitimise his Presidency so that he can say that the rest of the world recognise him as a duly elected President. That’s all.

    • Has she started getting intoxicated as well? What does she expect those crititicizing the lazy bum to do after the cancellation of the Egyptian trip, start blowing the trumpet or clapping that he did not go? There is no benefit except for the lazy bum himself. Have they started preparing the goats for export to Saudi Arabia?

    • Manguri of Tanzania is never traveling and the economy is booming. Foreign /local investors are having confidence in him. So what would prevent Zambia from having investment when Lungu stays home at state house? Lungu is just a dictator in making. you are yet to see the dictator in Zambia. This is just the start, for now he hides in the name of religion.

    • If only the president could after each trip address the press or nation to inform the gains arising from these trips. Didn’t he go to Saudi Arabia and came back to tell the nation that petroleum products would be cheap? Where are we now? Everyone trying to justify these trips with no positive outputs must think hard as to why the Tanzanian president who has cut down on trips and other excesses has a country that is seemingly doing better than Zambia. The truth of the matter is our leaders have no agenda for foreign trips other than meetings to register presence and then go shopping. We meet them and people in Zambia must listen to their brothers and sisters in the diaspora who see Zambian globe trotting delegations and diplomatic representatives without agenda for national value addition!

  1. You are really dumb. You don’t know that when a President is traveling all the time it is an expense to the Country. Taking in consideration of allowances of the whole entourage? What benefits has come out of his regular visits to other Countries? Which President in Africa travels like Edgar? Why can’t he send his Juniors to represent him? He said he has cut his salary but still benefiting from traveling allowances making no difference. We want a serious President not a traveller.

  2. He signs Saudi oil and media widely reports that this will result in K5.00 per liter fuel. The next moment it is breaching K10.00 – this is certainly one of the many trips that have not benefitted Zambians. At the very least stop making false pronouncements to justify your trips. You are making the population cynical!!! For Pete’s sakes if not anyone else!

  3. No foreign investor will come to Zambia becoz:
    1. Edward is not respecting the Zambian Constitution, Rule of Law, Human Rights etc
    2. There is too much State Sponsored violence and lawlessness. Violations of Human Rights is rampant e.g Edward is violating the UPND Petitioners by blocking the Petition Hearing.
    3. Edward and PF Party stole the 2016 Elections. No good governance in Zambia under the illegitimate Edward govt.
    4. The Zambian Economy has been mismanaged. Edward has no capacity to macro manage the Zambian Economy I.e no fiscal and financial discipline. Too much corruption from Edward downwards
Under Edward there in nothing attracking foreign investors to Zambia becoz of Edward misrule and mismanagement of the Economy. Show us the costs/benefits of Edward’s recent State…

    • Absolutely Zulu you are spot on! The Minister then should tell us the exact benefits the 6 trips the President has undertaken in the last 30 days will bring or have brought. We have a lot of water in this country. If anything we are the ones who should be exporting power to South Africa instead of the other way. These trips just fattened the pockets of those near the corridors of power. We are surely headed for misery

    • Foreign investors only care about security and taxes, none of what you mentioned. If it is the Chinese they will invest even when volcanoes are a yearly thing.

  4. This lady should do something about her public image. That photo projects an image of a hooker than an honourable minister.

  5. I am also wondering what kind of president we have, does he get to sit in his office and work? his model of behaviour typical of a civil servant creating trips for allowance gains with no real-time objectives merely for survival. an adage “Kolwe ushilabengwe eenda mwi luungu nafyonona”. Ba kampamba, ati benefits, which travel benefits will reduce skyrocketing prices of staples? he’s acting very ceremonial. You see my fellow Luapula people I told you, ama votes teyakupa fye icipelepele iyoo. now brace ourselves with hunger and severe malnutrition. more poverty!

  6. Lucy Sichone would not be like these modern weak women. That woman fought president Kaunda and Chiluba, when the MMD was at its early prime.

  7. Presidential trips should also be subjected to public scrutiny. Democracy needs public debate and consensus building. There is no need to insulate the president and make him lose touch with the aspirations of his countrymen and countrywomen. If numerous foreign trips were necessary as claimed, then why has his Tanzanian counterpart reduced foreign trips? Is it affordable? Let us tell our leaders what our aspirations are. let us make them know that what they are doing is acceptable or unacceptable.

  8. So how much investment and economic benefit has Zambia lost from Lungu’s postponement of his state visit to Egypt??

  9. You bitch, zambians are not dull. look around when was the last time the presidents of Tanzania, South Africa, Botswana Namibia make trips outside their countries! How are the economies of these counties doing compared to ours were we have a president who is touring all the time. ubu ule ku Bar not to people who reason properly.

  10. AREN’T THERE BETTER PEOPLE WITHIN PF WHO CAN HANDLE THIS POSITION BETTER? THIS IS A VERY CRITICAL POSITION THAT REQUIRES AN INTELLECTUAL. YOU ARE JUST TROUBLING THIS LADY, ITS NOT IN HER AND FORCING HER TO DO WHAT SHE DOESN’T UNDERSTAND IS NOT HELPING MATTERS AT ALL

    • “… THIS IS A VERY CRITICAL POSITION THAT REQUIRES AN INTELLECTUAL…”

You are looking for an intellectual within PF? LOL,LOL,LOL!!!
There is more chance of ECL giving-up booze than finding a intellectual within PF. Go for failed demagogues. Plenty available.

  11. If this is the standard of this information Minister, Zambia is in big trouble!

Only children would believe such rubbish. Does she think we are all dull uneducated villagers?

We KNOW that this holidaying tourist clown claiming to be “president” is a liability and scares investors away every time he opens his mouth and utters nonsense.

And no amount of buulsh!t by sycophants will change that FACT!

  12. It is saddening that a minister can make such a simple statement as if she is addressing children. We’re talking about tax payers money here going to waste because of the useless trips by Jameson. Which benefits is this f.oolish minister referring to? Where are the investment deals the trips have brought? She should not think Zambian people are foo.lish. You can see how empty headed she is. She has to say something to please the leader. Shame on her. We need seriousness from these so called ministers. That’s why we need a very strong and independent media to hold these id.iots accountable. They talk anyhow becaue they know no one will follow them to ask for clarity. If we had a proper media fraternity, these idio.ts would not take us for granted like this with such useless statements.

  13. The chilli you have put pa millomo is looking nice Minister.

The headline is good but it needed to be backed by figures regarding the number of deals the President has managed to get so far through these trips.

The analysis is a bit superficial to me.

    You are looking good though.

  14. Really laughable…this lady can not convince a class of Grade 5 pupils about the importance of these selfsame trips when there are bigger issues at home!!

  15. We know you are doing your job but to be honest,President Lungu has made close to 20 trips since he became President in January,2015 almost two years now, please research and point to at least three tangible projects he has brought from his travels. President John Magufuli who spends more time at home tackling corruption, government worst, tax collection, discipline in civil service, improved medical service by being a hands on President etc and has made just three trips in 12 months has signed deals with Uganda to have pipeline pass through Tanzania and Railway line from Rwanda to port of Dar es salaam instead Kenya, who is working hard between the two? The reality is Zambians are right and he should curtail and be selective in trips he makes and analysis the tangible benefits not pie in…

  16. Fellow bloggers, on second thoughts this woman is swapping places with Amos – me thinks. There is not much difference between the government spokesperson and the president’s personal spin doctor here. That also speaks to the outfit that is writing her speeches. Soon it will be global!!!

  17. It better to keep quiet and be perceived as a wise person than to speak and remove all doubts. Another foolish minister. Show me your friend’s and I will tell u what kind of a person you are, there goes Lungu,s felow dull mate. I feel bad at times to be a Zambian, to be represented by these dull I.d.I.o.t.s

  18. The funny thing is she does not realise she is sending a clear coded message of what is actually obtaining. (Or does she?). To decode the message, simply remove “not” where it appears, and add it where it does not appear as follows:- ……
……. “Chief Government spokesperson Mulenga Kampamba says the country does not stand to benefit from President Lungu’s foreign trips.
Ms Kapamba, who is also minister of Information and Broadcasting Services , has urged Zambians to continue criticizing President Lungu’s foreign trips and consider lack of economic benefits realised to date.”………and so on. It makes very honest and informed reading,
