THE opposition Rainbow Party says the country can only develop if the economy is run by Zambians.

The party secretary general Winter Kabimba said Zambia’s economy can only improve if the local people take the centre stage in controlling the economy.

Mr Kabimba said the economy was currently dominated by foreigners, especially international corporations.

He said the multi-national companies operating in the country were making huge profits but the money was externalised.

Mr Kabimba said foreign investors were only interested in making profits in Zambia at the expense of poor Zambians.

He said the Rainbow Party has plans to enhance the economy by encouraging local participation of Zambians who should take the lead in economic recovery.

Mr Kabimba said he did not leave the Patriotic Front because of frustrations but he wanted to form a political party that would improve the economy of the country.

He said the Rainbow Party has real ideas, not rhetoric, because it was interested in uplifting the economic status of the country in various aspects of the economy.

Mr Kabimba said the Rainbow has learnt a lot from the mistakes it had made during and after the 2016 elections and it will work to improve on its performance.

He said the Rainbow, which is a socialist party, will not practise socialism on the basis of theoretical arrangement but ‘‘real time practice’’.

Mr Kabimba was speaking in Kitwe during the party’s second anniversary.

And national mobilisation coordinator for the party Robert Chikwelete has urged youths to have a vision for the future by embracing progressive ideas.

Mr Chikwelete said the youths should work with political leaders who had developmental plans for the country.

  1. Hmm. I put it to you that Zedians have potentially created or partnered with holders of Swiss and off shore accounts in the last decade than foreigners so we may actually be our own worst enemy. I am holding out for the next generation whom I hope have watched us fail to secure their futures and hope they will be merciless and much smarter when they restore sanity. Let them write the history books and declare us all impotent when we needed to be proactive. Collective resignation to our so called fate is our frailty. With the exception of the many who do try. I’ll give some credit. Not enough to make a difference but who knows.

  2. Kabwamba you are right on this one but the problem we have is ourselves Zambians. We have folded our hands and legs and switched off our brains waiting for the Ecl or the tribal leader to deliver food on our tables. Once a Zambian is involved in any job the moment they receive payments they rush to S.A. shopping and buying expensive cars leaving the project half done. How can the economy tick with such type of goons. All the dimwits who can contribute something to the development of our economy are busy either chanting Ecl or throwing stones at the high court grounds.

  3. forming a political party implies one should also have ability to pull some of the best brains and money around. why not use them to mobilise resources and open up a mine, like taking over Baluba or starting an agro manufacturing plant which rainbow can use just so as a demonstration to exemplify this socialist argument. the African and zedian tragedy is having too many rich fxxxx whose only wish is to stash their earnings in offshore accounts. you are right on @ phiri anabwera

  4. Totally agree Kabimba. If only ECL and his people can realise this fact. No country develops by putting faith in foreign investors. We need to put economic power in our people’s hands. All the agricultural programmes should be aimed at indigenous Zambians, no single investor should be allowed in the agriculture sector. Let Zambians produce their own food and export all excess. All monies will come back to Zambia and spur growth.

  5. Truth be told none other than Zambians putting love of country first would work for its development. No outsider, corporation and/or foreign investor would plough in resources for the benefit of where they don’t originally belong and it is absurd to keep believing in attracting foreign investment as driven by Zambian policy makers at the expense of locals. Simple observations when critically examined are there to open our eyes and mind! As an example we have all observed how quickly an alien “investor” will quickly get attended to while an indigene will be met with hurdle after hurdle just to set up a small scale business! I would like to reiterate while in agreement that only Zambians themselves can develop the country if only honesty and desire to put country first are embraced!

  6. Th pRoblem I see we ar too open to all kinds of foreners. They can do any bissenes without fear in kabwe we hav many leobanies they stareted with. Ati investor selling vehicles every moth atase investor kwii pika ubwali atase

  7. Bowman Lusambo with his fellow MMD friends have invaded PF with the aim of disturbilizing and getting rid of true PF members. CK is not the only target on the list as the scheme is targeting bembas in short. Before you give support to the so called Lusambo, we should know where he hails from(of course he is from northwestern province). Any person who hails from western, northwestern and southern provinces naturally hates bembas even though they do not show their hatred openly.

The behavior of Lusambo has made us to regret voting for the PF in the previous elections, as the situation stands here on the copperbelt the PF has become unpopular. The results will show in 2021 presidential elections. 2021 seems to be very far but is very near! The question a normal person can ask himself is…

  8. IF KABIMBA DIDN’T UNDERMINE MR SATA, HE COULD HAVE BEEN PRESIDENT OF PF TODAY COZ THE LATE HAD EVERY CONFIDENCE IN HIM. BUT MISFORTUNE THE WAY IT IS KABIMBA WANTED TO TAKE OVER BEFORE AN OPTUNE TIME.. AND TODAY POWER IS LEFT WITH DULL CHAPS LIKE LUNGU.
POLITICALLY WINTER CAN’T BREAK THROUGH OTHERWISE HE WILL REMAIN IN OPPOSITION PERPETUALLY. THE GUY ISN’T JUST AN ORGANISER NEITHER AN ORATOR. SHAME UPON HIM

  9. Wynter Kabimba is just making leftie noises so people will vote for him – when he gets into power he’ll just go along to get along with De Beers, Glencore, etc. He has no movement behind him to back him up when he goes against the IMF/WB, who act as their bankers.

The PF has tried to fool the electorate before. In 2011, they were all for the Windfall Tax, but when they get into government, they immediately change their story.

  10. On land I was reading about botswana they have a good policy whearE all citizenes have the rite to owone land atleast a 40 x40 un likE zambia u give leobanies / chaines land. Why are we so dull an corrrapt like this shame to our leaders who cant make laws to impowwe citzens shame shemuna upon them all

  11. Ok Winter. This is a start. I am beginning to listen to you. I hope it’s not just a flash in the pan because we really need this kind of thinking right now

  12. A ZAMBIAN was given a security contract by zccm and the first thing he did with the first cheque was to buy the latest Mercedes and go on world tour with his family. He failed to pay his employees and zccm ended paying the poor chaps. The contract was terminated and given to a white woman who now operates all over the copperbelt. So you can only blame ourselves just like Cassius said : “The fault is not in our stars but in ourselves …”

  13. Wynter Kabimba is just making leftie noises so people will vote for him – when he gets into power he’ll just go along to get along with De Beers, Glencore, etc. He has no movement behind him to back him up when he goes against the IMF/WB, who act as their bankers.

The PF has tried to deceive the electorate before. In 2011, they were all for the Windfall Tax, but when they get into government, they immediately change their story.

    • Who else can he go with if no them? African economies do not have the funds to float the capital intensive mining operations. Kabimba is simply revisiting the Zambinization policy. It didn’t work before because Kaunda had denied Zambians the exposure they needed. The sand has shifted under our feet: we have a lot of trained and experienced Zambians who can negotiate better terms with financial houses than the government.

  14. Ndanje khakis to u boss correting a bad situation like in zambia u bring more chaines / leobanies to cooke nshima sale cars sale cell phones no tax and u say Ma inverstors land my friend in botswan is free but look at how much one can buy land mu zambi cheapest k15000 what is wrong with us zambian allways Exploiting each other who is in cotroll of zambia ?

    • @jm on the contrary I would like to see many Zambians own businesses . In my life I have concluded that zambians have a wrong idea of being in business. We think that “living a rich life ” is how a businessman should live. A lot of pioneer ZAMBIAN businessmen have gone under because of the James Bond style type of life they want to live. Those foreigners we envy sacrifice a lot just to sustain their businesses. Look at the Senegalese : they travel thousands of kilometers to mine our emeralds. In spite of the money they make, they live simple lives mostly in Nkana village, they don’t womanized, they don’t take beer. It’s the opposite with us. We can do better in the talking business.

    • Senegalese don’t womanize, are you kidding me? They may not drink for religious reasons, but they are not passing up on boobs and a booty. Senegalese have caused significant damage to our social fabric. Many a poor girl have died because of peanuts dropping off the palms of Senegalese.

One thing you ought to know is, Senegalese come with a specific perking order. The ones you know work for the ones you don’t see, the ones who have access to the gemstone market.

    • It depends on what you understand by “womanizing ” If you spend money on women recklessly that’s “womanizing ” but aba Sene don’t do this. Yes they will “marry ” a Zambian woman for convenience but you’ll never see them splashing money in bars like we do.

  15. Kabimba makes a good point but we also need to change our attitude to work in particular. I live in a rural area where people instead of doing something productive start drinking and lazying around in the early hours of the morning. As for Kabimba himself and his party, they ain’t going nowhere because their leader is too pompous and full of himself. He missed his chance during Sata,s time, better for him to disband and join UPND.

    • Adopting a good work ethic would happen when the politico, the people who shape public mindset, make it an issue and begin to pipe about it. Otherwise it will remain a fleeting illusion.

  16. Wynter is the man for all Zambians who want to see progress. My advise to Wynter is my Man, you are a real political strategist second to none. 2016 elections were just a testing ground to perfect your strategy for the 2021. The PF is still using your manifesto which they have failed to implement as they don’t understand it. Please Wynter use the next five years to mobilise and galvanize the people as you did for Michael Sata. Few people know that you were the single most strategist responsible to PF’s 2011 election victory and you are the only one capable of dislodging the Patriotic Front. Please, please Wynter help redeem Zambia.
