13 year old dies after being knocked down by a speeding truck in Milenge District

A 13-year-old girl has died on the spot after she was knocked down by a speeding Scania Truck registration number ASB 1198 in Milenge District in Luapula Province.

Luapula Province Police Commissioner Hudson Namachila confirmed the development to ZANIS in an interview.

Mr. Namachila said the incident occurred today around 13: 10 hours near Kafwanka Basic School and identified the victim as Beverly Ng’andwe of Vincent Village in Senior Chief Milambo in Milenge District.

He said the deceased, a grade one pupil of Kafwanka Basic School was hit  by the speeding vehicle and died on the spot.

He reaveled that the deceased incurred severe head injuries as a result.

The body of the girl is in Samfya District Hospital Mortuary awaiting postmortem.

And the the driver of the truck Evans Kasanda 34 of Village Kasongo in Chief Kalasa Lukangaba of Mansa District has been detained at Samfya Police Station awaiting appearance in court.

Mr. Namachila has advised the people along the high way especially parents to be strict in observing the traffic rules to avoid carnage related losses of tender lives.

  1. If this is near a school, should there not be speed bumps and traffic lights to ensure safety? Is there not a driving limit in the zone? It should be different from highways and residential areas and what they need to figure out. That transportation minister is a u-seless piece of sh-it! He seriously has to go and needs to be replaced.
