A second year engineering student from Zambia studying in Waghodia-based Parul University India committed suicide at international hostel building of the varsity on Saturday evening.
The deceased identified as Jite Sakala (22), tied himself with the bedsheet to a ceiling fan in the common room of the international hostel.
On seeing Sakala tied to the ceiling fan, other foreign students informed university authorities.
The university officials informed the police about the incident.
Police said that Sakala has left a suicide note behind but refused to share details of the suicide note. Sources in the police department said that prima facie it looks that Sakala was suffering from depression and that is the reason why he committed suicide.
The police, after taking his body in custody, sent it to primary health centres in Waghodia for post-mortem.
Cops have informed Sakala’s parents and the Zambian Embassy in India about the incident.
Police registered a case of accidental death in the incident.
So sad. MHSRIP. Many students studying in foreign countries go through all sorts of problems. Caution to parents: ensure that you conduct thorough checks on some of these overseas universities especially the scholarship terms.
Very sad and I hope that he was not a victim of racial abuse/killing happening in India. Of late there have been a lot of racial killings and beatings of black people in India.
Please so not send your children or relatives to go and study in India, Indians are very racist people, spare your loved ones from such injustices that might even lead to suicide.

Sending your children to India for University is traumatic for young Zambians and a waste of money and time. India is a nasty place and very racist. These kids are better off at UNZA. or at least Send your children to proper schools in America if you have money like that.
SAD INDEED, but sometimes a person could be murdered and then murderer frame a suicide to incriminate the dead and avoid further investigations. HOW CAN SOMEONE HUNG THEMSELVES IN A COMMON ROOM WHICH IS ACCESSIBLE TO ALL STUDENTS INSTEAD OF DOING IT IN THEIR OWN ROOM. Very unfortunate incident. Some people just like condemning some things. It is said that “what goes around comes around”. He must have going through some things that just ‘drove him over the edge’. I’m not any way supporting what he did. Let’s not be too quick to judge someone because ‘we do not know the battles they are fighting’

Hey let’s not be racist for no reason! Not all Indians are racist those that are are just a tiny minority. Sad the young chap committed suicide but we don’t know the full facts behind this. Yes there are attacks on Africans but some of these Africans are the same Africans you abena Spaka and even me have called names namely these lowlife Nigerians who are truelly the scum of the earth!
