President Edgar Chagwa Lungu has expressed profound sadness at the demise of Zambia’s acclaimed medical icon Professor Chifumbe Chintu who passed away at the age of 79 yesterday, 4th May, 2017 at 19:35 hours.

In a message of condolences to the Chintu family, the President highly extolled Professor Chintu for his unequalled loyalty and distinguished service to the medical profession not only in Zambia but also the African continent and the rest of the World in general.

The President described Professor Chintu as a determined and exceptional hard worker who dedicated his life to Public service as seen by the tremendous and significant contribution he made to the creation of the School of Medicine at the University of Zambia and the department of Paediatrics at the University Teaching Hospital.

The President said not only was Professor Chintu instrumental in the development of the School of Medicine and the Paediatrics department, but he also exhibited distinguished leadership qualities through the several positions that he held in the medical profession among them the position of Dean of the School of Medicine at the University of Zambia over a period of years.

President Lungu has since extended heartfelt sympathies to the bereaved family saying the country and in particular the medical fraternity has lost a dedicated and passionate Public Service Worker who put the lives of others first.

The President has prayed that the bereaved family may draw comfort and strength from the Almighty God as they mourn their beloved.

The President has since accorded Professor Chintu an official funeral and directed Cabinet Office to put in place all logistical arrangements for the funeral.

“The country and in particular the medical fraternity has lost a dedicated and passionate Public Service Worker who put the lives of others first. On behalf of the Zambian government, the people and indeed on my own behalf, I wish to convey my heartfelt sympathies to the Chintu family. My prayer is that as they mourn, may they find comfort and strength from the Almighty God,” the President said.

    • Last met the great don on an SAA flight to Joburg at end of February this year when he was on a family trip. MHSRIP …

    • If the Prof Of medicine was that good why were political patients always flown to South Africa?

Or could it be that he was only good theoretically by cheating local students with ineffective medical practices?

Oh! Wait a minute! He was a Pediatrician hence no baby patients were ever flown to South Africa, okay!
Or does anybody know of any baby patient ever flown to Jo’burg?

For the State Official funeral/mourning has only been triggered by his names to blind LP, NP and MUchingans.

    • i got my UNZA medicals from his private practice.

There’s a funny story that happened in the 90’s. After being frustrated by the FTJ MMD Govt, Prof. went to practice in a private hospital in Joburg (Morningside or milpark). Then Govt started sending all sick politicians to RSA for treatment. 1st lady Vera Chiluba was taken to Morningside for treatment only to find she was being treated by the Prof.

That’s how Govt was embarrassed & recalled him. Unfortunately the trend of sending politicians & cadres still continues to this day. As we speak PF cadre Max Chongo is in India for heart attack treatment on taxpayer’s expense.

  1. I would seriously freak out and cause a scene (treason charge in Zambia) if I found my mother dancing at the airport like the women in Lungu’s photo.
Those poor women are being abused. it is evil to take advantage of the poor.

  2. I last spoke to Prof Chintu 7 years ago when we met at Maina Soko. I then reminded him I was one of his many students who was now living in Canada where he trained. We talked about Canada and families and said our byes, not knowing that was the last I would see if him. He will be greatly missed by the medical community.

  3. Politicians are so full of nothing but wind. Ok so clueless Lungu is just going on and on about how much the late Prof ( MHSRIP) has done for the medical fraternity blah blah blah. Show that you mean it! Time to change Ridgeway to Chifumbe Chintu School of Medicine. Our founding professors are just disappearing without a trace,,, Prof Stanley Makuku, Prof Nkhanza etc. What kind of leaders do we have who have no sense of history? None sense!
I forever miss Prof’s jokes and his quizzing style during oral examinations.
    HAMBA KAHLE. MYSRIP teacher.

  4. HH when you come to power can you please rectify this? And please no more pictures of mothers, mothers, daughters or sisters dancing for you at the airports. It’s so dehumanizing indeed!

  5. This hypocrite Lungu pretends to have a Human Heart while inflicting pain and suffering on HH and others and has slapped HH with trumped up charges for Treason. Lungu is a Devil Incarnate and thats why he mistreats others. “To love God is to do justice” and “To do justice is to love God”. Do Christians for Lungu see such love in Satanic Lungu? Shame on Lungu and his fellow fake Christians.

    • Your so called id1ot HH OVAL HEAD was looking for some fun and he’s got it! Let him rot their for all I care!

  6. R.I.P. Prof. Chintu, You made the country proud. We salute you, sir and many will look up to your exceptional service to the nation for generations to come. We thank you!!

  7. Condolences to the Chintu family MHSRIP.One of his son is a friend Richard currently working for FRA as PMC Muchinga Province.MK/Nakonde

  8. These are crocodile tears from illegitimate Lungu. The man is Satanic that is why he is persecuting HH and other UPND Supporters. Lungu is a Sadist and he would be happy if HH is killed in Prison so that he can achieve his dream of establishing a One Man Party Dictatorship and Rule Zambia with an Iron Fist forever. Lungu is just a hypocrite who pretends to be Godly and a Christian. No man of God could send 500 Policemen to go and raid HH’s at mid nite, break the Gate,Switch off lights, teargas the occupants, ransack the Home, steal money and various assets. How Barbaric and Callous can Lungu and his Criminals at State House get?#Release HH unconditionally and let the Petition heard in Court.

  9. There were two icon medical professionals I knew prof Chintu and prof. Mukonge.
Not those of Nkandu the bitch. Zambia has been robbed of beautiful mind.
    MHSRIP.

  10. Zambian is losing experts in fields like medicine, engineering etc. What we have left is people of Lungu’s generation who are not well educated. Our sanitation is disastrous! The flooding is not acceptable. All the engineers who could have solved this problem are retired
, dead or abroad! Many engineers, doctors etc were harassed by Chiluba and Mwanawasa. They were forced to leave the country or black listed in Zambia. This was because of jealousy. They did not have the intelligence to save human lives or apply engineering.
