Togolese President Faure Gnassingbé has arrived in the country for a two-day state visit.

President Gnassingbé was received by President Edgar Lungu, at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport.

President Lungu and his Togolese counterpart are later expected to hold bilateral talks at State House.

President Gnassingbé was accorded a twenty one gun salute by the Zambia Army infantry and late inspected a guard of honour.

And State House says the Togolese President’s visit to Zambia will further strengthen bilateral ties between the two countries.

Special Assistant to the President for Press and Public Relations Amos Chanda says the two heads of state will discuss key areas of cooperation in various sectors, including mining.

Mr. Chanda said Togo is keen to learn from Zambia on how it has managed its mining sector as the West African country is a major iron ore producer.

He said the two heads of state are interested in improving bilateral relations in the economic sector for the mutual benefit of the Zambian and Togolese peoples.

Mr Chanda said peace and security issues on the African continent will also be high on the agenda.

He further disclosed that President Lungu is likely to undertake a reciprocal state visit to Togo in the second half of the year.

President Gnassingbé is expected to return to Togo on Tuesday after concluding his engagements.

    • Mushota by the way this is a chap who “inherited” his post from his father! Does it remind you of someone? I smell a rat here!

    • Kikikiki Togo has same problems as Zambia. When did they vote that frightened, drunk guy? As they say, birds of same flock together.

  1. Presidents are received by Presidents.
Criminals are received by prison waders.
Remain focused your excellence – Zambia is cruising towards economic freedom at an alarming speed.
    Way to go.

  2. Why are Zambians dining with dictators? This guy from Togo, a nondescript little country has got nothing to offer in terms of trade or governance. This is a tragedy!!

  3. Why is lungu makind friends with DICTATORS? Faure Gnassingbé came into power via a coup after his father’s death. He lost the elections & rigged them via the transmission of votes from remote areas just like lungu did with kaizer, ECZ no G12 forms, Samuel Chavula & Concourt.

He is a dictator who has already changed the constitution to extend his term of office with a 3rd term & is gonna make the terms unlimited just like lungu plans to do. His father (Eyadema) was also a dictator who ruled for over 30 years & died on the throne.

As the saying goes: Show me your friends, I’ll tell you who you are:-

    – Robert Mugabe
    – Amini Museveni
    – Faure Gnassingbé
    – joseph Kabila
    – Dos santos

Real democratic presidents don’t want anything to do with ka museveni-wannabe.

  4. What Trade and Cooperation is there between Togo and Zambia? The only thing in Common between Lungu and Gnassingbe is Dictatorship. Lungu invited the Togolese President to learn from him how to establish a full Dictatorship in Zambia. Lungu is desperate to be recognized and wants to be recognized by African Presidents with Dictatorship culture. This wont help Lungu as Zuma and SADC have already rebuked him for lack of respect for Zambia’s Constitutional Democracy. SADC told Lungu to release from Jail HH becoz Petitioning Election Results is part of Democracy. It is wrong to persecute HH for refusing to recognize the Vote Thief as a Legitimate President and b4 the Petition is heard. The Petitioners have a Right to be heard and they must be heard in Court. Zuma told Lungu that it is only…

  5. this visit is good for Zambia and kafue steel as it will boost the economy. we expect kafue steel to grow and employ more people.according to the pronouncements made by the president that kafue will be an economic zone, its good to see the president making follow up ensure that the face of kafue is improving.we are waiting for you sir but you should also say something about workers who are on slavery condition of service.

  6. “President Lungu and his Togolese counterpart are later expected to hold bilateral talks at State House.”
Kadansa Kamwendo chakolwa Lungu will be empowered with more juju from west africa…lol
