HH to appear for trial today on charges of obstructing a presidential motorcade

Opposition leader Hakainde Hichilema is today Wednesday 10th May expected to appear for trial before Lusaka magistrate Greenwell Malumani at 09:00 hours.

This is in relation to the charge of obstructing a presidential motorcade and alleged use of insulting language.

On Thursday, Mr Hichilema will appear before magistrate Simusamba for the ruling on the certificate of committal to the High Court on the treason charge.

Meanwhile the UPND Media team has released the following statement to the media

HH CONSOLES THE KAPWEPWE FAMILY

Incarcerated UPND President Hakainde Hichilema has learnt with deep sorrow and sadness the passing on of Mrs Salome Kapwepwe, the dear wife to a great freedom fighter and independence icon, Simon Mwansa Kapwepwe.

Mr. Hichilema joins the family and the rest of the country in mourning the late Mrs. Salome Kapwepwe who is reportedly to have died in her sleep.

The UPND leader feels the pain of the family and the rest of the country on the untimely demise of such a strong woman who he says was one of the pillars in Zambia’s freedom struggle.

Mr. Hichilema recollected the pain in which these strong women went through when their dear husbands were fighting for the liberation of this beautiful country which due to their efforts, was subsequently united under the banner of the one Zambia one nation motto.

The UPND leader said had it not been for the situation he was in currently, he would have personally been part of the masses in joining the family to celebrate the great history of a such powerful woman who helped shape Zambia.

On his own behalf, the great UPND family and the rest of the masses, he sends sincere condolences and joins in praying to God to comfort the family in such trying moments.

Listen to those insults from the useless security clinging on the vehicle. How do you expect God to intervene when someone does not want to admit his falt. His supporters imsulting people showing tribalism.

  25. Its only in Zambia where a Passenger in a motor vehicle can be jailed for allegedly letting his Driver obstruct the Presidential Motorcade. HH was not the Driver of the vehicle There were 100 cars in HH’s Motorcade so 100 Drivers should have been arrested. There were other cars driving on that Road so those Drivers should also have been arrested. Its all a Set Up job to find an excuse to arrest and keep HH in Jail on unbailable charge. Lungu is abusing the Police and the Courts to punish his opponents. Its not a crime to Petition Elections and to refuse to recognize an Election Thief as a Legitimate President. Lungu should just release HH unconditionally and allow the Petition to be heard by an Impartial Court.
